Chapter 167 What If

Chapter 167 What If

Samantha's Point Of view

Noah was over the moon when he woke up to his favorite theme of spider man. After a long time, I saw joy flashing on my son's face. I have neglected him for a long time and seeing him happy today was everything I could ever ask for.

“Mommy, will you please invite all my friends at home. I'd love to take pictures with them too..” Noah said, bringing me back to reality.

I cleared my throat. “Umm, my boy. I don't think that's a good idea.”

“Please, mommy.”He begged.

I exhaled deeply. “Okay. I will invite all your friends.”I gave in. It's not like he was going to give me a way out anyways.

“Will you invite Sean too?”

I slammed the folk on the table, gaining the attention of Nicholas’s and Sam from the seating room. “I'm not inviting him here.”

Noah rose from the chair and rushed to me. “Mommy, please invite him too. I want all my friends to be here.”

“He isn't your friend.” I clenched my jaws.. “That boy used to bully you. You have forgiven him but I won't allow him in this house.”

“But didn't you say everyone deserves a second chance.” Noah used my words against me, his hands now crossed on my chest. “I've forgiven him and I'm also giving him a second chance as my friend.”

I rubbed my forehead, trying to pull myself together–he was just a six year old who didn't understand how this world worked. The thought of inviting Cassandra into my house felt like digging my own grave but I was doing this for my child–this was all about his happiness after all.

“I might as well invite your whole school here.” I muttered.

“Will you invite them all?” Noah's voice was filled with anticipation.

I shrugged. “Do I have another choice?”

“Thank you, mommy.” His eyes twinkled with joy. “I will go and get ready.” He kissed my cheek and he rushed upstairs.

All thanks to him, I had to deal with that woman and her bully son. But what more can I do.. It was my son's wish.

I grasped my phone from the table and called the principal.

The call was picked in the second call. “Good morning, Miss Ross.” The principal greeted me.

“Good morning, can you please do me a favor?”I didn't beat around the bush.

“Of course.. Just tell me what I need to do?”

“I've arranged for a small event at my house and Noah is insisting on inviting his friends over. Could you maybe talk to their parents for me for them to come?” There was no way I was going to call Cassandra or invite her son over personally. Let them come from school to here.”

“I can do that. Just let me know when the event is starting.” She asked.

“Umm..” I glanced at my watch on my wrist.. “Maybe around twelve.. I will arrange for the transport to fetch the kids from school and then bring them back.”

“Alright.. I will talk with the parents.”

“Thank you.” I muttered.

“My pleasure..”

I ended the call. I rose from the chair and began making my way upstairs. I strolled through my phone as I walked, I didn't notice anyone coming my way until I bumped into someone, I stumbled a step back, I almost lost my balance but I was quickly caught by my hand.

I lifted my head to see Sam, holding my hand so I didn't hit the ground.. “Umm.. I'm so sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going.”

He released my hand, I had to hold the stairs so I wouldn't lose my balance again.

“It's okay..” His words were short and sharp.. “Umm, I'm sorry but I won't be here for the photoshoot. I have an important meeting I need to attend.”

“It's okay..” I forced a smile. “Noah would have loved it if you were here but it's fine. He will understand.”

“I'm sure he will.” Sam’s gaze found mine for a brief moment–the same emotion from that day flashed in his eyes and he wasn't doing much to hide them or maybe he didn't want to hide them.

“I should probably get ready.” I said awkwardly. “I will see you later.” I was about to make my way upstairs but he stopped me.

“Can I ask you a question?”

I turned to face him. “Sure you can.”

“If Nicholas was in my place and I was in his, would you still have fallen for him?” His voice was rasped..

His question made my heart skip an unhealthy beat. I never thought of this–my mind never traveled this far. All I knew was Nicholas loved me when no one wanted to–he stood by me when everyone turned their backs on me–he taught me to love myself and become the woman I am today. Naturally I'd fall in love with him–I've never imagined any other man except for Nicholas.

I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. “I never thought of it.”I told him honestly. “Why are you asking me this question?”

Sam chuckled but somehow his chuckle wasn't of joy nor of sadness–I couldn't find the right word to name. “Don't mind me, I was just curious.”

I didn't need to keep wondering what was wrong with him–I wasn't stupid enough not to know what was happening here.. I take a step closer to him, my gaze not leaving him.. “Don't make that mistake. You'd end up with a broken heart and I won't take responsibility for it.”

“What mistakes?”

“Don't play dumb. You know exactly what I mean.”

“I'm asking because I don't know what you are talking about.”

I scoffed.. “Of course you don't know what I'm talking about. Anyways, don't say I didn't warn you.”

I was ready to walk past him but he didn't let me leave once again. “Maybe you are right..” He muttered. “But what can I do? One can't control their heart, can they?”

“If your heart is out of control, then use your head.” With that, I made my way upstairs and this time I didn't turn back. I didn't want to continue with the conversation any longer
