Chapter 400

Although Clara and Oscar weren't exactly harmonious, they were relatives. And on that day, they needed to show the public that they were on good terms. Oscar waited outside the dressing room, ready to lead his niece down the aisle.

Inside the room, the atmosphere was hectic. Flowers were scattered everywhere, bridesmaids were getting ready, and two children were stealing the show. Today, the flower girls were Liam and Julie. Both were dressed in formal clothes, too elegant for their age, but charming like characters from a fairy tale.

Stella, with her already large belly, knelt with difficulty to adjust her son's tie. Before she could, Liam shook his head and pointed to Cora.

“Mom, let Aunt Xi do it for me.”

Cora smiled, taking the tie from Stella's hands.

“Leave it to me.”

Carol, who was watching the scene, felt ignored. She crossed her arms and muttered:

“Why don't you ask me for help?”

Liam laughed openly, without mercy.

“Because I don't believe you know how to do it!”

“What?!” Carol was indignant. “Stella, your son looks more and more like Nathan! Are you taking good care of him?”

Stella just smiled calmly.

“He's Nathan's son. It's natural that he looks like him.”

Carol was speechless.

Meanwhile, Cora not only fixed Liam's tie but also adjusted Julie's dress, who looked like a little princess.

“Mom, do I look pretty?” asked the girl, twirling around.

“You look beautiful.” Cora kissed her forehead.

Julie, blushing, whispered:

“So... can I marry Liam?”

Cora was speechless, but Liam reacted immediately.

“You're dreaming!”

The boy ran off, leaving Julie behind. Her eyes filled with tears. “Brother Liam hates me...”

Stella, afraid she would cry, hurried to comfort her:

“No, dear. Liam is shy. I've seen him blush myself. If you don't believe me, go after him and see.”

Julie smiled sweetly.

“Really?”

“I swear.” Stella winked.

Outside, Oscar knocked on the door.

“Clara, are you ready? We need to leave.”

“I'm coming,” she replied.

Julie ran to find Liam, excited about her new mission.

“Remember,” said Cora, “when you get to the carpet, throw the petals just right!”

“You can count on it!” Julie replied, satisfied.

Clara took a deep breath. The strapless dress hugged her silhouette perfectly. Her heart was racing.

Carol approached, whispering provocatively:

“Are you really going to let Oscar take you? Don't you feel disgusted?”

Clara smiled ironically.

“Of course I do. But don't forget: I'm a good actress.” If she decided to enter the world of entertainment, no actress would survive.

Stella laughed.

“I don't doubt it. Now go on. Victor is anxious.”

“I'm nervous... I've never felt this way, not even at other events.” Clara clasped her hands.

“You can bet Victor feels the same way,” Stella encouraged her.

Clara nodded and, with a confident smile, took her uncle's arm. She followed behind the bridesmaids.

Outside, the scene was worthy of a magazine. Liam and Julie entered first, scattering petals on the red carpet. Julie smiled radiantly, and even Liam, despite his shyness, seemed proud of his role.

Victor waited at the altar. In his white suit, he looked even taller, more imposing, more masculine. The guests murmured about how stunning he looked.

Then Clara appeared. The strapless dress, the delicate makeup, the sparkle in her eyes—everyone held their breath. Victor couldn't take his eyes off her.

Oscar gave his niece's hand to the groom and said firmly:

“Take good care of her.”

Victor nodded seriously.

“I will.”

They exchanged rings. At the moment of the vows, Clara said calmly:

“Victor, for the rest of my life, please supervise me.”

Surprised, he smiled. “Mrs. Lin, for the years I have left, please supervise me.”

A chorus echoed among the guests:

“Kiss!”

Victor held Clara's face and kissed her to warm applause. The celebration exploded with joy.

Carol, however, couldn't resist and whispered to Stella:

“Who would have thought Victor would do that in public?” What will his reaction be when Clara wears that costume we gave her?

“I'm curious too.” Stella bit her lip to hold back her laughter.

“I'd love to see his face!” Carol sighed.

“Dream on. Clara would never show you.” Stella laughed.

Nathan, who had overheard part of the conversation, put his arm around his wife's waist. “What did you give Clara?”

“It's a secret.” Stella winked.

“I bet it's nothing innocent.” He looked at her sideways.

“How do you know? Did you open the hidden gift?”

“I don't need to. I'm too smart.” He snorted.

Stella was speechless. Was he implying that she was slow?

The ceremony was intimate, but Clara was exhausted. After the party, she threw her shoes away and lay down on the bed in the decorated room.

Victor came in right behind her and sat down next to her. He ran his fingers affectionately through her loose hair.

“Are you tired?”

“Very.” Clara closed her eyes. “I'm not getting married again.”

“What nonsense is that?” He nudged her forehead. “You'll only get married once. To me.”

“Then great. Once is enough.” She laughed softly.

Victor got up.

“Get some rest. I'm going to take a shower.”

“Okay.” She waved.

Lying down, Clara noticed two boxes on the shelf. Gifts from Stella and Carol. Her curiosity was greater than her tiredness. She got up, picked up the first one, and pulled the ribbon.

Inside, she found delicate lingerie. Red, daring, tailor-made for her. She imagined Victor's expression when he saw her wearing it. She laughed to herself, blushing.

Then she opened the second box. And she gasped.

It was a complete nurse's costume, with a stethoscope, toy syringe, and provocative accessories.

Clara stared at the gift for a few seconds. Then, finally, she understood Carol's mischief.

What would Victor say when he saw her wearing that?
