Chapter 257: CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY-SEVEN : THE KIDS ARE SAFE
ETHAN’S POV
“What are you saying, Jennifer?” I gritted, fed up with her nonsense.
All I wanted was to take Leah out of here and get her urgent medical help.
But I couldn't do that.
Not with Jennifer’s gun still pointed to us.
“I fought hard for us, Ethan, every single time.
I climbed mountains to be with you!
Me!
Your Goddamn wife!
But all you ever saw was her!
Leah left you!
She is getting married to another man for Christ sake!” She screamed.
I struggled to calm my breathing as I spoke.
“Our marriage is invalid, Jennifer.
And you know that very well.
There is no way I can be married to you when my wife is still alive.
So get that into your insane head.”
Her eyes flashed at my words and she suddenly calmed.
Her lips curled.
Then, she took a step forward and closer to us.
“I don’t want to kill you, Ethan.
I cannot kill the man that I love.
I’ve worked too hard for this moment.
So step away from Leah.
You don’t need her anymore.
I’m here for you.
Look, I got a cosmetic procedure.
So when you fuck me, you only see her face.
Please leave her side Ethan, so I can end this once and for all.”
Those words left her lips as her devilish eyes preyed on me.
I only held Leah tighter, shielding her completely with my body, as a plan morphed in my head.
My other arm moved discreetly to the gun Killian had given me earlier.
And I discreetly passed it to Leah behind me without Jennifer seeing.
I knew Jennifer would not shoot me.
And as far as I had Leah behind me, she was protected.
But then again, Jennifer had gone deranged.
I turned, giving her my back.
My hands moved to cradle Leah’s face gently as I raised her head to look at me.
“I’m going to distract Jennifer.
And the moment I do that, you run.
And if anybody comes in your way, you shoot, do you hear me,” I told her, my voice low.
She shook her head, looking at me with wide eyes of shock.
Dried tears still clung to her cheeks.
“No…no, I cannot leave you here, Ethan.
She’ll kill you,” she said hastily, her eyes filled with fear.
“If she kills me, then I’ll die with a smile on my lips knowing that you are safe.”
And my words broke something in her, because her eyes glistened with tears as she held on my shoulders.
“She has the kids.
We still have to save them,” she pleaded.
“The kids are fine, Leah.
Killian has them,” I assured her.
I could see the relief which filled her with my words, but she only held tighter to me.
“If they are fine then it’s good,” she breathed, looking at me earnestly.
“Then I have no reason to leave you here, Ethan.
We’ve been through so much.
I cannot run away now,” she cried.
And the one time I needed Leah to stay away from me, she refused to go.
My luck must be cursed.
“You have to be with them, Leah.
They never had me in their life so they’ll miss out on nothing.
But you…”
“What are you telling her!” Jennifer yelled from behind as a curse left my lips.
“Leah, you seem to have forgotten the reason you are here.
You want to save them right?
Or have you decided to sacrifice them for Ethan!” Jennifer gritted targeting Leah.
“Go Leah!
Killian must be waiting outside with the kids.
He won’t leave if he does not see one of us,” I urged her knowing we were running out of time.
“Please….” My words were cut off by the loud banging of the door as it was pushed open.
I heard a painful grunt, accompanied by a body landing harshly on the ground.
My entire form moved on alert, turning immediately with Leah behind my back.
And the moment I took in what was before me I froze.
Cold dread poured down my spine knowing it was over.
Killian laid on the floor, his lips splitted and his face bruised like he had just been in a fight with somebody and he lost terribly.
My head looked up from the floor to land on a huge man standing before Jennifer.
His face was unfamiliar.
But the darkness which he carried was very hard to miss.
The sound of heels hitting the floor told me another person was coming in.
And before my eyes, I watched as Vivian Harnes walked through the door.
Her eyes were as hard as steel as they landed on Jennifer.
And without any hesitation, she moved towards her.
Her hand swung in the air and the sharp crack of a slap filled the atmosphere, echoing in the air.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” She shouted, her gaze still fixed on Jennifer’s hard one which was still bent to the side.
“You were taking too much time…”
“And your hastiness almost cost us everything,” the man beside them said calmly.
His gaze moved to Killian who was still lying on the hard ground.
“I found him sniffing around here,” the man growled.
And finally.
His eyes moved, and looked towards where we stood.
His gaze barely spent a second on me.
Rather, it looked past me, and froze at something behind my back.
“Ragnar,” Leah breathed out.
The man’s lips curled evilly, as he smirked.
“Hello, niece.”
