Chapter 120 The godfather

Chapter 120 The godfather

Christian’s POV.

She looked fine just now we left inside.

She collapsed into his arms and even that pissed me off.

“Scarlett!” He yelled, shaking her body.

I took her from him and checked her pulse but I could barely feel anything.

I tried opening her eyes and they were white. I knew it was from the fire.

I picked her up in my arms and moved towards my car.

Tom, who had been standing with the others, rushed to the car and opened the car door.

“Get ready to drive. Quick!” I commanded.

He left the door and rushed into the driver's seat, igniting the car.

“So, I see that you are alive” a voice which rose behind me the moment I wanted to slide Scarlett into the back seat made me turn.

What the fucking hell was that supposed to mean?

Ethan was approaching me so calmly, his hands placed in his pocket.

“I really hoped she'd die in that fire, you protected her, I see” he said.

I placed Scarlett into the car seat and turned to face him again.

“What the fuck are you going on about right now?” I asked.

He didn't give a response to the questions I asked, instead, he continued speaking the gibberish he was speaking the moment he got here.

“Why did you protect her?” He asked.

“You even got injured for her” his eyes darted to my knees which was soaked with blood.

I had gotten that cut when I jumped down the stairs, I was sure that some glass must be stuck in my skin at the moment.

“Is she worth it?” He asked.

I slammed the door to the car shut and closed the space between Ethan and I.

“Move your ass, Ethan” I spat. “I need to get her treated”

I tried to move past him but he dragged me by my clothes and drew me back to himself.

Our eyes locked.

“You got 50 percent of the shares. Let's forget about her and get rid of her, we don't have a use for her anymore” he said.

“We will find a way to get the rest of the shares,” he added.

I yanked his hand away from me and scoffed. “You must surely be going crazy, Ethan.”

“We need to get you checked!” I added before I entered the car from the other side, sitting beside Scarlett and placing her head on my lap.

“Drive fast, Tom,” I ordered.

He stepped on the accelerator and drove towards the hospital. He knows the address as it was the family hospital.

Soon, he parked the car in front of the hospital and I picked Scarlett up from the car.

A stretcher had been prepared and wheeled outside even though I didn't call anyone to inform them.

The stretcher must be waiting for another patient but since we got here first, they used it for my wife.

She was taken into a ward while a doctor attended to her. I ignored the staff's greetings and only fixed my eyes on Scarlett who they wheeled inside.

Inside the ward, the doctor checked her pulse and did some tests. I couldn't tell what they were.

They drew her blood to make samples and then she was connected to an IV. I stood and leaned my back into the wall as I stared at her.

The doctor came to me when she was done and she bowed. “She's fine, Mr. Christian”

“She needs rest. Her temperature is too high, I've added something to cool it to her IV” she paused. “But we will need to give her a bath with ice water, you need to step outside please”

My eyes lingered on Scarlett before I nodded and walked outside.

I watched as the nurses got a plastic bathtub and ice water into the room.

I stared at my watch while I waited and soon, my mind drifted to what Ethan had said earlier.

Ethan was becoming something I didn't know. He was becoming more and more dangerous.

I wasn't afraid of him but I was starting to get scared of what he'd do to people around me, the people who had anything to do with the revenge we were taking.

I held my phone and contemplated calling him, but I didn't.

Scarlett was here, I needed to stay with her first. And while thinking about what he said earlier I couldn't help but have thoughts moving through my head. I just hope it's not true.

A few minutes later, the nurses and the doctor emerged from the room.

“She's stable now, sir. But she hasn't regained consciousness yet and she needs to rest well” she said.

I nodded and walked into the room.

She had been dressed in the hospital's patient white dress away from the smoke streaked dress she was putting on.

I stared at her while standing with my arms crossed.

But I couldn't get thoughts out of my head. I couldn't get Ethan's word out of my head. And I kept recalling the fact that we had felt like someone was watching us on the third floor before the fire broke out almost immediately.

I brought my phone and dialed a number. I didn't want to disturb Scarlett's peaceful sleep so I walked out of the room and gently closed the door behind me.

I was calling Walter and he picked up almost immediately.

“You got out safely, I think” he said and I scoffed.

“That's your way of saying you are glad I am safe?” I asked.

“Son, I know you are strong and I know a fire like that wouldn't be able to break you” he said.

I'm sure Scarlett was the one who is mostly curious about this. The relationship between Walter and I.

He's our godfather. Both Ethan and I. He picked us up when we were kids and he trained us, empowered us and buried the thought of revenge in our hearts.
