Chapter 110: Anything for Serena

Scarlett's POV.

“You are thinking about someone” I heard Christian's voice behind me and that got me startled. I didn't know he had walked outside after me.

He was right. I was thinking about someone but I hate to admit it.

I only wrapped my hand around my arms and took a sip from the can in my hand.

“Who is it?” Christian asked.

My gaze snapped to him in surprise. “Someone I used to share memories with”

I said and walked away from him wanting to check the surroundings of the house like I had said.

“Finn?” Christian was still following behind me.

I snapped my gaze to the back but it didn't last long before I brought it back to my front and continued walking.

“Why are you curious?” I asked.

“It's him,” he said, ignoring my own words.

“Actually….” I swallowed hard. “I've been thinking about him a lot lately.”

“I can't get over the fact that I caused his death” I paused. “I hate myself for not being able to do anything to get the person who killed him”

I continued. “I made him go out that day and he died”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. “And lately, memories we shared together just keep coming back”

Tears were blurring my vision, wanting to fall so badly but I was doing my best to keep them in.

Before I knew what was happening, Christian spun me around.

I looked startled and blinked my eyes.

“When you are with me,” he paused. “Don't think about anyone else but me”

My eyes went wide open in surprise. I couldn't understand what he was saying but I asked no questions.

He noticed the confused look on my face and spoke again.

“Whenever you want to think about Finn, think about me instead,” he said.

I stared at him but even in his gaze, I felt lost.

Absent-mindedly, I nodded my head.

“Good,” I heard him mutter.

“It's dangerous at night,” he paused. “I’ll go with you since you want to look around”

He said and once again, I nodded like a mere fool.

I walked and looked around the house like I wanted and he followed behind me.

The house wasn't so big but it had rooms and looked like the biggest in the whole area.

It must be hard to live here because I could notice without effort that there was no electricity.

But this place was safe, away from the hands of intruders.

It was beginning to feel so cold outside as my lips were starting to shiver.

“Let's go back in,” Christian said.

I was also going to say that. I nodded and hummed a response before we turned and headed back into the house.

In the room where Serena was, I opened the door slightly and Jeremy was no longer there while Serena's eyes were closed and I figured she'd be asleep.

“She slept off after I injected her with her medicine” A low voice came from the side and I closed the door gently, facing Jeremy’s aunt.

I heard her name is Delila.

“Thank you for everything” I smiled. “i’m grateful for the care you’ve shown her”

“It's nothing.” She smiled back. “She's bound to be my family sooner or later”

I really hope that happens and really can't wait for the time it would.

I didn't give a response to that and only smiled a wide genuine smile.

“Come, let me show you to your rooms” she said.

She turned to leave but before she could take a step, my voice rose.

“No” I cut in sharply. “I’ll sleep with Serena here”

She didn't complain and nodded her head with a small smile on her lips. “That’s how family works”

She turned her gaze to Christian. “Then, Mr. Christian?”

She gestured towards the way to the rooms.

Christian straightened his back. “No, thank you”

He said and I stared at him with surprise. Why not? Where does he want to spend the night?

“Since she will be watching over her sister through the night” he paused. “I'll also watch over her here”

That got me surprised. Why would he? What has gotten into Christian?

Delila smiled, her face wrinkling a bit. “And that's how love works”

Love? I would have scoffed if it wouldn't sound disrespectful. We weren't in love, we both know that.

It had always been about business and for some time, lust was added.

“Wait here, I'll be back” The woman walked away, disappearing into one of the rooms.

While she was gone, I avoided Christian's gaze and we both stayed in silence till she got back.

She returned with two blankets and handed them to the both of us.

“In case you feel the need to stop watching over yourselves and need to sleep” she smiled. “It's always cold here”

“Goodnight” she said and turned.

“Thank you” I bowed slightly as I watched her exit.

Christian and I both went back to Serena’s room and while I sat right beside her, Christian sat on the stool at the far end of the room.

I didn't know for how long I watched over her while thinking about her smiles and times when she's elated and times when she’d cry due to the little things that break her and also due to our parents' frustration.

I was so lost in these memories and didn't know when I slept.

When I woke up, I was resting my head on her bed and a blanket was thrown over my body.

Did Christian cover me with the blanket? I looked up to see him asleep. But then something important dawned on me. Serena was no longer in bed and that got me startled.

I looked around for her and that was when a voice snapped my gaze to the side.

“Time to get up,” It was Serena. “I made you morning coffee”

Serena was standing in front of a table and my eyes lit up in surprise. Because she looked perfectly fine unlike the previous night.
