My mother's health

My mother's health

Chapter 13~ Valerie's POV

\===========

Reaching my apartment, I knocked lightly on the door. And no one answered, my worries grew, as I began panicking. Forcing the door open, I walked inside and didn't see my mother in the sitting room. This heightened my concern, so I called out, "Mom," hoping for a response, but I got nothing.

So I continued walking, then my search intensified, leading me to the guest room, but I found no one there. I called out once again, but I got nothing.

Then, the tension mounted as I approached my room, so I held onto the doorknob tightly and tried opening, but it was shut from the inside.

With that, I banged on the door so hard, but still, I heard nothing. As fear took over, I tried breaching the barrier, and with a forceful push, the door gave way as it opened.

Then I entered and called out, "Mom," as my voice trembled with so much fear, hoping for a response this time.

But it still resulted in echoes of silence. My eyes darted around the room, scanning every corner, and then I saw my mother's leg at the corner of the bed's floor.

Hurriedly, I ran to her with tears in my eyes and my heart beating, then I saw her lying on the ground, with her eyes closed.

"Mom, please open your eyes," I cried, but no response was heard. I tried checking her pulse and breathing level, but it all stood still.

I didn't know what to do or who to call; I felt my whole life was fading away.

I carefully laid her head back on the floor while I quickly ran to the sitting room. Reaching there, I took my bag and brought out my phone to call for help as I didn't know what else to do.

I dialed Anna's line, but she didn't respond to it. The tears in my eyes increased even more. So I called Ruth, perhaps she could help, but it was no different from Anna.

While searching for who else to call on my phone, to come help me so I can take my mother to the hospital. Then I stumbled upon Dante's number.

Initially, I hesitated in wanting to dial his number, but I had to put my ego aside and do whatever I had to do to save my mother from dying.

So I dialed his number, and luck rooted on me as the call went through and began ringing. Without wasting time, it got connected.

"Hello, Dante," I began.

"Well, hello, Miss Skye, to whom do I hold this honorary call?" He mocked.

Taking a deep breath, I concluded to accept any torment I was going to receive.

"Please, Dante I didn't call to have a fight with you or to be mean to you, but I am in dire need of your help, my mother collapsed, and I don't have anyone to call for help, please help me please, I don't want my mother to die, I beg of you," I continued, with tears rolling down my eyes.

And to my surprise, he spoke calmly as he responded, "Calm down Valerie. I will be there in three minutes, just hold on and stay with your mother,"

"Okay," I said, as I wiped my tears and so we both ended the call.

After that, I rushed back to meet my mother and tried lifting her. While doing this, I heard the sound of the door bell so I ran to the door as I already knew it was Dante.

Then I opened the door, and saw him standing, "So where is your mother," He went straight to the point.

"Sh-sh-she is lying unconscious on the floor in my room," I stuttered while explaining.

So he walked in and said, "Let's go to your room," then we proceeded there, and getting there I showed him where she lay and instantly he cradled her into his arms as we both left my apartment and headed to his car in haste.

As we got to his car, he laid her on his car's back seat, while I sat with her, as I rested her head on my lap, doing all the medical first aid I know of.

And so, Dante entered the car and drove off to the nearest hospital.

Swiftly, we arrived at the hospital and got down as the medical team rushed to where we were with a stroller as if they knew we were coming.

I wanted to ask Dante but the health of my mother was my priority, so I kept mute.

As the medical team hurriedly took my mother in on a stroller, I and Dante ran alongside them.

But as soon as we all got to the ICU operating room, one of the nurses in the medical team halted I and Dante from going in with them.

Agreeing, I held onto the nurse's hands as I said, "Please do anything to make my mother well again,"

And with assurance in the nurse's eyes, she responded, "We will try our best," with that, I let go of her hands and stayed back with Dante by my side.

At this point, I felt so different as I have never felt this helpless before. Drowning my tears as I stood, Dante tried coming to where I was and consoling me but I was too devastated to even think of my hate for him, I just held onto him tightly as I hugged him.

Rubbing my back, He uttered with a soft tone of consolation, as it sent its whispers to my ears, "Your mother will be fine, worrying won't solve anything but staying positive will solve a lot please Valerie stop your tears,"

With his words, my tears continued rolling down even more as I needed such encouraging words at this difficult time.

Two hours later, as I and Dante sitting in the waiting area close to the ICU room. Then we both saw a doctor coming out of the room. So I rushed to meet him as anxiety wore on me in knowing the current situation of my mother.

Approaching him, I voiced, "Doctor, please how's my mother,"

"Yes doctor, how is she?" Dante chimed in.

"Well, her current situation is quite critical as you brought her in extremely late, and due to the scan we did, she fell on her back as her head hit something hard which affected her left brain, I can't say she would solve this or not, but her Broca area is also faulty which extends to her spinal cord, as I guess she uses a wheelchair right?" The doctor asked.

"Yes doctor she uses, a wheelchair," I responded, but my worry grew even more when he said.

"Now we have to pray for a miracle," the doctor explained. "But I will promise you this, I will do all I can, to make sure she walks again," he ended as he went into the operating room back.

Hearing this, my hope shattered but my faith stood firm because I knew my mother would come out healthy from the operating room and that alone helps me go on every time.
