Chapter 129: Clingy the Moment He Gets Home
A black car slowly pulled into the estate.
Theodore opened the door to see Luna leaning against the living room sofa, flipping through a parenting magazine.
Sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing her in a soft glow.
"You're back?" Luna looked up, the corners of her lips curving upward.
He walked over and leaned down to kiss her.
"You're all over me the moment you get home," she chuckled, pushing him away.
"I missed you so much," he said, kissing her forehead. "Was the baby good today?"
"Very good." She rubbed her slightly rounded belly. "He just kicked me a few times—probably reminding me to enjoy my afternoon tea."
"Did you have it?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, of course." She smiled.
"By the way." She put down her magazine, looking at him with sparkling eyes, "Didn't you just say you'd cook something special for me tonight?"
"Just wait," he said with a smile, pinching her cheek gently. "I'll get right on it."
"Really? No chef?" She blinked, a little surprised.
"Yeah." Theodore stood up and cracked his knuckles. "I've been learning some new tricks lately. I'm going to make something special for you tonight."
"What are you making?" she asked curiously.
"It's a secret," he teased her, leaning down to kiss her cheek. "Just wait—it'll be ready soon."
He turned and walked toward the kitchen.
Luna leaned back on the sofa, rubbed her belly, and whispered, "Baby, Daddy's cooking. You know, he used never even to set foot in the kitchen, but now, he's willing to learn anything for us."
——
In the kitchen, several chefs were standing at the ready.
"Good evening, Mr. Davis," the chefs greeted Theodore in unison.
Theodore nodded as he tied his apron and said, "I'd like to make something special tonight."
The chefs exchanged glances.
"What would you like to make?" Michael, one of the chefs, asked.
Theodore thought for a moment and said, "I'd like to prepare a full-course meal tonight—appetizers, a main course, and dessert."
"Great idea!" Michael's eyes lit up. "For appetizers, we could go with deviled eggs or buffalo wings. For the main course, barbecued ribs or hamburger steaks would be perfect, served with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. Apple pie is always a good choice for dessert."
"Let's start with the appetizers." Theodore nodded. "We'll make deviled eggs first."
"The key to deviled eggs is seasoning the mayonnaise. First, boil the eggs, cut them open, and remove the yolks. Then, mix the yolks with mayonnaise, yellow mustard, and a splash of white vinegar until smooth. Pipe the mixture back into the egg whites. Finally, sprinkle a little paprika on top for garnish."
Theodore listened intently, then placed the eggs in water and turned on the stove to boil them.
Twenty minutes later, all the dishes were done.
Looking at the table covered with plates, Theodore smiled.
"Good work, everyone." He took off his apron.
"Mr. Davis, you're a quick learner."
Theodore smiled and began arranging the dishes on the serving cart.
Seeing the food on the cart, Luna's eyes lit up.
"Wow," she exclaimed. "They look so great!"
"I said I'd made something special for you," Theodore said softly, trying to act nonchalant.
She picked up a deviled egg and took a bite.
"Delicious," she nodded.
His lips curled slightly.
Luna picked up a buffalo wing.
"These are also good."
"Really?" he asked, his eyes sparkling.
"Theodore, you're amazing!" she asked, "Why aren't you eating?"
"Just watching you eat is enough to fill me up," he said with a smile.
"That won't do—you have to eat with me." Luna gave him a stern look.
She cut a piece of rib and put it in his mouth.
After finishing, Luna leaned against the headboard and rubbed her full belly. "I can't take it anymore; I'm so full! Theodore, if you keep this up, I'll be huge by the time I give birth."
Theodore smiled and leaned in to kiss her on the cheek. "A little extra weight is fine—I like it."
"It doesn't matter if you like it. I don't like it."
"Alright," he said. "Then you can give me whatever you can't finish."
Luna looked at him, smiling.
——
Before going to sleep that night, Theodore held her close and rested his hand gently on her lower abdomen.
"Honey," he asked, "what do you think the baby is doing right now?"
"Probably sleeping. We just ate so much," Luna said softly.
He smiled and murmured. "Baby, Daddy made you lots of delicious food today. Did you taste it?"
The little one inside her moved slightly, as if in response.
"They moved!" Theodore's eyes lit up.
"Looks like he heard you." She smiled.
He leaned down, pressed his face against her belly, and whispered, "Baby, be good. Don't make Mom work too hard."
She turned her head and buried her face in his chest.
He tightened his arms around her, resting his chin on the top of her head.
