Chapter 53: Just Us
Alexa stared at the caller, then at him, “Mr. Williams.” Caleb called out, but Hance’s gaze was still stuck on Alexa.
She pointed at his laptop, and he sighed before he continued his meeting. “What’s wrong with him?” She shrugged her shoulders and sat there idly.
*
Thirty minutes later, Hance was still busy with his meeting. Then a bike drove in; she hurried outside and discovered it was the delivery man.
"Me,” she hurried, took the bag from the delivery guy, and rushed back inside.
Hance’s gaze moved to her, and she showed the food to him with a happy smile. A smile crept on her lips.
“Is that all?” Hance asked his subordinates; he didn't wait for their response before he got disconnected.
“Are you done?” she asked, and he nodded.
"Were you starving?” The excited look on her face made him feel bad; he was busy at a meeting while she starved.
“No, I just love food.”
“And I love you.”
His words caught her off guard; she felt her hands shivering, and she almost dropped the food.
“Uhm, I will serve the table, okay?”
Alexa rushed to the kitchen, and her face was filled with smiles. She took out the Lobster Newberg and served it with pasta before taking it back to the dining table.
Her gaze met that of Hance, but she quickly looked away, placed the food on the table, and sat next to him.
“You should eat.”
He nodded and kept staring at her; she felt nervous to even eat. “Stop staring at me that way"
"What way?”
“You know what I mean?” then she dug in, but he didn't; he still kept staring at her.
“You said you were hungry; won't you eat?” She wanted him to stop staring at her.
“After the long meeting, my hands suddenly hurt,” he pouted, and she got worried.
“Do you want me to put on some ointment? Do you have one here?”
“You should do that,” he smiled teasingly. “But now I am starving; you have healthy hands.”
Alexa was confused. What did he mean by having healthy hands?
Oh
She suddenly realized, “You are not a child.”
He smacked his lips and frowned at her. “Good appetite then.”
Then he stopped looking at her, and stared at the view to his left. Seeing his childish look, Alexa shoved the fork towards him and said, “Open up.”
“The distance isn't good for feeding; you have to be close.”
What?
Alexa sighed, so she pushed her chair closer to him, but he shook his head in denial. "Closer.”
She pushed her chair again. "Closer,” he complained.
“I am already close to you.”
“Not close enough,” he said, holding her hand, and she stood up. Then he pulled her to sit on his thighs.
“Now you are close,” he winked at her, and her cheeks became red.
“Feed me then.”
Alexa gathered her courage and shoved the spoon towards his lips, but he didn't open up. “I am thirsty.”
“I will get you water....” Alexa didn't get to complete her words as he captured her lips with his.
His hand pulled her closer, then he broke the kiss and smiled at her. “Thank you, baby.”
Her heart fluttered; she could hear her own heart beat, and she also never expected for him to be this clingy and romantic.
“You really don't mind that I was married to Josh?” She questioned him, and his brow furrowed.
“You just ruined a moment.”
“Josh is your nephew; how are you not curious?” She insisted on getting a response.
“I don't care about your past; why does it bother you?”
“Because it’s important,” Alexa replied. It was important that they discuss such a topic.
“It’s not,” he stated.
“It’s not important if I am just a fling.”
“Huh?” He stared at her in disbelief.
“Hey, what’s the meaning of a fling?” he questioned.
“You know, someone you just hang out with for a short moment and move on.”
“That’s right, you are a fling, if a short moment signifies eternity.”
She almost forgot the topic they were discussing as her mind was in turmoil. “Let’s just eat,” she said, stuffed food in her mouth, trying to avoid any tense moments.
*
Caleb arrived and drove them out of the mansion. He had a painful smile when he realized they were now official.
Seeing that Alexa’s phone was in her hands, Hance dialed her contact, and it rang. He was shocked when he saw how she had saved his contact information. “Why are you calling?” Alexa asked innocently.
“Am I your uncle?” He asked, then she laughed. “It was just a humorous way to save your contact.”
“Change it”
She nodded, but he kept staring at her. “Now?” she asked, and he nodded.
Alexa sighed and edited the name; she wrote Mr. Williams, and then he cleared his throat.
She deleted it and wrote Hance, but he still wasn't satisfied, so she went into deep thinking for a name.
This time she wrote something that made him satisfied. Soon they arrived at her place, and Caleb walked down the car.
“Uhm, I will get going now,” she waved at Hance, and he raised a brow. She walked down the car.
"Alexa,” he called, and she looked at him. “Let’s hang out tomorrow night at the hotel; I will send a driver for you.”
“At the hotel?”
He nodded. “Just us?”
Hance thought maybe she was trying to figure out if his family would be there. “Just us.”
Then she got very nervous and smiled before she closed the car door. "Alexa,” Caleb called, and she faced him.
“You both make a great couple; don't let anyone or circumstances tell you otherwise. Have a good night.”
Then he got into the car and drove away. “At least one person who won't judge my choice,” she sighed heavily.
