Chapter 54

“Are you leaving, Mom?” to Inah’s surprise she dropped the toy and ran towards me.

“Yes, maybe Mama will come home at night,” I said softly and then knelt down to make her equal.

Her lips parted, we were in the living room so others could see what was happening, I arranged her hair braided around her head. It touched my two cheeks then lightly pinched.

“I’m fine, just behave Inah.” It taught herself.

I stood up then shook strongly, I held her hand then went to Nikasha’s place next to Van and Vernon who were already eating something. I closed my eyes tightly when I heard Inah’s loud cries. She’s starting! I still don’t like everyone crying because it’s hard to calm them down.

I sat it down on the far sofa where the Fornacier couple was nearby. “Look, it’s important that mama is going, do you want us to go back to Spain?”

“No, I want here,” she said softly with tears already accumulating in her eyes.

“No? So stop crying, look at your twin, he doesn’t cry anymore, you’re a big girl aren’t you?” I asked here still on my knees.

Regardless of the maroon bandage dress I was wearing whether it would tear or not because it was so fitted to me. It nodded at me but it still kept crying softly.

“Stop crying Esmeralda, Mama’s will find our papa, do you remember that?” Van’s voice echoed throughout the living room causing me to feel the gaze of others.

Van approached and then sat down next to his twin, Inah’s lips twitched as he kissed his twin’s cheek. “If you want to see papa, be a good girl, Inah. Later when mama comes home, papa is with her, you want that?” Van’s consolation to its twin who nodded quickly but still frowned.

I couldn’t help but feel sad every time I stared at them, I decided to stand up and avoid looking at the two children because of my threatening tears. I promised again. I don’t know how the things they want will happen. To go home with their father.

“Don’t worry, we’ll play again, we’ll catch those Spartans outside, then we’ll include your uncle Von as well as your Aunt Nikasha, they’re your opponents, so don’t cry anymore,” he said also of Lucas.

Van laughed a little, especially Von who was shocked. I smiled and looked again at the two children next to me. “Mama comes late, I’m leaving. Where’s my kiss?” I nodded as Van quickly kissed me.

I turned to Inah who quickly wiped her eyes and hugged me. I picked it up and then stroked the back. “Go to bed early, Mama will take care of you, later,” I said and then put the papers down next to Uncle Zenos.

“Are you with papa when you come home later?” Inah asked right next to her grandfather.

I swallowed hard and for some unknown reason I could clearly see how Nikasha widened and smiled.

Trembling I smiled then nodded slowly. “Y-Yes, I’ll be back together with your f-father,” I said holding my breath then she clapped softly and smiled.

Uncle’s eyes narrowed at me, as if studying whether what I was saying was true or not. I couldn’t bear to look at her so I smiled at Inah and then said goodbye to them. I hastened my action, just stuck in the mansion, as if I was going to explode because of the eyes staring at me. The difficulty of this, to keep a secret because one does not know how to tell the truth.

It was almost night when I arrived at the venue, because this party starts at six o’clock where almost all the C. E. Os are here, so I don’t know why Von isn’t here. As far as I know, the owners of the company and others in high positions have a party every year.

“Hey! Are you still there?” Cyron opened up to me wearing a tuxedo.

I looked at it all over then prepared his left arm. I smiled then put mine there. “Nope, I just arrived, just had a bit of a problem. Where’s Mama A?” I asked while smiling at the other people we met.

“She’s looking for a husband,” he whispered so we both laughed softly.

“Looks happy huh,” a voice came from our side.

A mixed race man who looks just the same age as my uncles. Along with this his wife also smiled at me.

“Mr. Ramirez,” Cyron smiled shaking his hand here. “This is Veronika Azusa Ficarro, one of the great designers here in the Philippines,” he said with a smile that I immediately kissed.

Embarrassed I smiled but had to be professional, I shook hands with the couple and smiled not fake. “Yah, I know her. Zenos’ nephew right?” taking care of the wife.

“Yes, Madame,” I agreed.

There was a little more storytelling then we decided to go around again, so many people and so many different languages I could hear. It’s really different when you’re rich, it’s just amazing why my sister isn’t here. We entered a more spacious hall, lots of tables and décor around. It’s so grand and I have nothing more to say.

“Engr. Arcus and Engr. Suarez, planned it,” Cyron said with a smile that almost startled me. Lucas and Fred?! Oh my god! What’s going on you Engr. Roux? As far as I know, Maru is also one of the great engineers.

“You really are, I’ve been waiting for you for a while because it’s about to start,” Mama A glared.

Fadeless. Still beautiful. Cyron helped me to sit next to Mama A as well, we were with some of Uncle Ponce’s partners, because I once saw them talking to the Fornacier family. I’m just quiet and just a pure smile makes those who look at me. I couldn’t help but be held to my chest because of the strange nervousness. It was even worse when they found out Uncle was the truth.

Something strange. In the middle of us listening to some businessmen I don’t know why my head is spontaneously spinning, my eyes are looking for something that nothing should.

“Are you okay?” Mama A whispered softly to me.

I swallowed and then quickly nodded and smiled at her. “Y-Yes, I just feel a little worse,” I said with a smile.

“Oh my god, you shouldn’t go. Can you still?” worried its question.

“Sure, I’m fine,” I lied.

Cyron noticed Mama A and I whispering, I just returned the look and smile. In the middle of listening I once again remembered the two children. The children are me. I promised again that I did not know what would be presented to them. Worse, Uncle heard that. People there heard. I turned away from the truth and convinced myself that we would be happy even without their father. Maybe I am, I am satisfied that their father is not there because we also went through it. But every time seen I have children, as if I were being burned, how can I endure not telling them the truth? I don’t know what I’m really fighting for.

I can’t help but feel pity when I see them looking at the happy family, at the complete family.

“If you want to see papa, be a good girl, Inah. Later when mama comes home, papa is with her, you want that?”

I smiled bitterly when I heard again in my brain what Van said to his twin which caused it to fall silent. I don’t know how, where to look for your father.

“Y-Yes, I’ll be back together with your f-father.”

Now even my voice haunts me. I could no longer cope with what was happening to me so I said goodbye and left first. I went to the nearest restroom, I noticed that there were only a few people in the restroom so I made the most of it. I adjusted myself and slapped myself. I might wake up feeling really hopeless. I applied red lipstick to my lips not too hard, and decided to go out. But at the same time my heart was pounding and my cell phone was vibrating in the pouch I was holding.

I just walked slowly while hurriedly hitting who it was. I smiled when I registered my cell phone number, these are my children.

[Ma! Have you been with papa yet?] It opened up to me so I bit my lip so hard.

I was so nervous that I couldn’t answer, I felt dizzy because of the combined fear, nervousness and confusion.

“Still no— oh! I’m sorry! I’m sor—” In less than a few seconds it was as if cold water had been poured on me because of what I could see right in front of me.

I can’t move the cell phone in my ear, I can’t lower it. Gradually the nervousness in my chest disappeared, my questions gradually had an answer. He stared at me without emotion, wearing the tuxedo that suited him. I recoiled because of his stare as if the council was killing me.

“Z-Zaffiro,” I said softly.

[Ma? Are you home yet? Where’s papa?] Van asked and now Zaffiro must have heard.

I couldn’t speak, I was talking to people I was really hiding from.

“How are you Veron?” smiled its serious question. “Where are our children?”
