Chapter 102

DOMINIC

He started at me, and I stared back at him. Proposal he said. I didn't even know what I was doing here to begin with. I loathed this fucker. I wanted him six feet under. For everything he had done so far.

But I was here, and I was waiting to hear whatever fucked up idea he had in his fucked up mind. “You might want to sit down for this Dom, don't act like we're strangers…”

What is that even supposed to mean?

“I'd rather stand. And please get to the fucking point already. I'm barely containing myself as it is…” I said cooly, but even he knew there was nothing cool about me. The rage inside me was waiting for that tick to explode and I hoped to God it would be on him alone without any casualties.

He smiled, then reached for the box of cigarette seating nicely on his- my table. It was mine even now and it was just a matter of time before I took everything they stole from us back.

He took a stick out, stretched his hand forward offering it to me. If it had been Alex, we would have had a nice quiet smoke.

I chuckled in my head. He too was one fucker I hated but look at how fate turned things around. Alex had become the only person that wasn't family that I trusted. Oh wait, he actually is family. He and Raina are legal.

Back to Nathan, I glared at him, and pinned him with my stare as if to strangle him from where I stood. He smiled and shook his head. “No? More for me then…” He took his lighter out and took a draw at the cigar.

“You know, Raina hated when I smoked…” he started.

She still does, asshole. “But its not like she's going to find out. I know you got her married to Alex to save the company. But I want you to give her to me…” he took a big whiff of the stick in his hand and blew the smoke in my direction, his face turning serious. Like murderously so. “...get her divorced, married to me and I will help you take my uncle down…”

I didn't know what games he was playing at but I was curious, despite knowing there was no way I was going to put Raina through all of this shit. Why hadn't I even given the police all the evidence of his crimes?

“Before you say no, think about it. I know what this company means to the both of you. I can help you get it back…”

This time, I took a seat. I needed to think and I needed to do so without standing. If there was anything I got out of this request, it was that he was trying to fuck us over again.

First, this was definitely a trap. Secondly, I knew what his intensions about marrying Raina was. He wanted our family's entire fortune and he could get it if he was legally married to her.

Not unless I get her to transfer and distribute everything among the family, especially the kids. The thought made me smile.

Nathan was cunning but I was a genius. For once I wanted to have the upper hand, and it felt like this was the time to do so.

I nodded, stood on my feet and left MY office.

His temporary ass would be out of there very soon.

I took my phone out of my breast pocket and pressed the stop button from the recorder. Then rang Alex.

“I think I have a way to get Nathan out of the picture…” I spoke into the phone the second he answered which was on the second ring.

“About fucking time…” he sighed. “Where are you…”

“I'll be home in an hour. I need to handle something first…”

I got to my car, and drove down a couple of streets before pulling into the family lawyer's office building. I knew I should have discussed this with Raina first but that would only slow me down and take too much time. We didn't have that.

Nathan and Osborn needed to be eliminated.

“Mr Graham…” the lawyer, said standing on his feet to greet me. “I wasn't expecting you..”

I didn't expect to be in his office either but here I was. I nodded and took a seat. Out of the few times I was here, I always took a look around. At the back of my head, there was always a thought to make sure that no one could hear us.

“I need you to draft out some property transfer documents fast and whatever you have going on needed to be canceled. This is an emergency.” The urgency in my voice almost made me cringe. The desperation was heavy and thick. I embraced it.

This was my family we were talking about. There was no time to think about what he or someone else thought of me.

He looked up with wide eyes and a frown followed after. He would like to know why I requested for these and why he needed to come with me.

“Come on, man. Hurry the fuck up, we've got shit to do.” I urged and he nodded, typing away on his laptop.

And soon, well, after what felt like an eternity, he got on his feet and walked over to the printer by the door of his office.

“It's ready…”

I jumped to my feet at that announcement and was out of the door in seconds. He followed with his bag and we walked down to my car. Halfway through the drive he broke the silence.

“Are you going to tell me why you want to transfer the property?”

“Soon, James. I need you to be there with everyone when I tell them…” I gave him a quick glance then fixed my eyes back on the road.

There was this sense of calm that he had and always carried. I knew I looked like a maniac about now but there wasn't a trace of panic in his eyes or features at all.

“Dom, I swear if you don't talk I'll rip your throat out…” Alex snapped at me. James and I had arrived the mansion moments ago and I called everyone out for a talk.

“Okay so Nathan called me over to talk…” I made an air quote at the word talk as I paced. Raina stiffened where she sat.

“What did he want?” My sister scowled in her spot. Sensing her disdain for the man, Alex wrapped his arm over her shoulder.

“You…” I blurted and her eyes widened. Alex's followed soon after that. He jumped on his feet, about to protest but I lifted a finger stopping him. “...he wants you two to get divorced…again. He wants you to marry him instead and he will help us take out his uncle…”

Alex was a mixture of rage and calm. It was a scray sight to behold. “Please tell me you didn't agree to this man…”

Of course not! What did he take me for?

I scowled at him this time, before averting my gaze to meet Raina's. “Which is why he…” I pointed at the family lawyer who was seated like a chicken that had been hosed down with water. “...is here. I had a thought. Nathan is hell bent on making you his because of the estate, right…” Raina was on the edge of the couch now, attention glued to me. “...why don't we distribute it? That way he won't get shit even if he pulls something off again…”

It took a few heartbeats before she spoke, letting what I had just said sink it. “You mean…”

“Yes, Raina. I didn't agree to you two getting a divorce but what if we make it look like so. He might insist on the divorce happening before he helps, whatever the fuck it is but we can be steps ahead of him this time.”

I drew in a deep breath from how much I had been speaking. Alex got up on his feet and began pacing the living room.

“I don't like this. I don't like any of this shit…” he stopped for a while and turned to face me. “That bastard has always been two steps ahead of us, Dom. What makes you think he hasn't seen this move already?”

That was a valid question. Knowing Nathan he must have thought about every possible outcome. But we couldn't afford to sit still and do nothing.

“Because, Alex, we're transferring the assets to you…” I announced. It was an absurd idea but it was the only hand I was certain Nathan hadn't seen in his game.

“Fuck no….” He wanted to argue.

“Yes. Think about it. Look it doesn't have to be under your name if that's what you're afraid of. We can put it under Sullivan corporation instead, then stage a false divorce. If he wants a wedding, we can fake that too. We have to beat this fucker this time…”

“Dom, I have a child on the way in case you've forgotten…” Raina cut in. She was in my face in a matter of seconds like I had just ruined her life.

Fucking shit.

How had that slipped my mind?

I was sure the look on my face gave it away because she utterly refused this suggestion and I understood clearly why.

“I am not getting a divorce, Dom and that's final. You already know how hard it was for me to agree to it in the first place.”

“It's a fake divorce Raina. I promise you, none of it will be real. And Alex, get your signature on that document right now. I'll call this fucker and we can get moving…”

It took a little more convincing, and a little bit of pulling Alex to the side to talk some sense into him but the coward was afraid of losing the money.

“What if he finds out…?” He asked, obviously anxious.

“He won't. And if he does, we'll tell him it was the settlement you wanted because the premise of the wedding included that. Come on man…”

And Raina, whatever Alex told her worked. She signed off the estate to her husband and got it off the Grahams. That was one part down. They had both agreed to what seemed like the hardest part.

I took my phone out, drew in a breath and dialed Nathan's phone. He answered on the first ring, as though he had been waiting by his phone for the call to come through. Almost like he knew I would reach out. The thought that he had always been thought and plans ahead angered me. Maybe Alex was right.

“I knew you'd call. Took you long enough…”
