Chapter 25
Jessica was carefully packing her handbag, making sure she had everything she needed for the next day's work. She was so focused on her task that she didn't hear the soft knock at first. But then it came again, louder this time. She looked up, and saw Samantha standing in the doorway, an unreadable expression on her face.
"What is it?" Jessica asked, trying to keep her voice level.
Samantha smiled, but it was a tight, forced smile. "I just wanted to make sure you were fine after witnessing at tantrums Davis through downstairs" she said.
"You don't have to worry about me," Jessica said, her voice was firm but she looked a little confused. "I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Besides, you're not the boss here. I am." Samantha's eyes narrowed.
"We'll see about that," she said icily. Then she turned and walked away, leaving Jessica alone in the room.
Jessica's eyes widened as the realization hit her. Samantha hadn't come here to check on her son or to create peace between Davis and her. She had come here with one purpose: to destroy her and probably take everything away from her. And she would do anything to accomplish that goal. Jessica knew that she needed to be on her guard, and she needed to figure out a way to stop Samantha before it was too late.
But how could she do that? She was stuck here, with no way to escape. And Samantha seems to have the power. What could she possibly do?
★★★ GUEST ROOM★★★
Samantha stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her. She paced back and forth, her mind racing. How dare that woman talk to her like that? She was the boss, not some newcomer who knew nothing about the way things worked around here. She had to show Jessica who was in charge, and she had to do it quickly.
But how? She was the one with the power here, but she couldn't just throw Jessica out. There had to be a better way. She started to pace faster, trying to think of a solution.
As Samantha paced, she felt a wave of sadness wash over her. She remembered seeing Davis hug Jessica, and the way Jessica had looked at him. It was clear that she had feelings for him, and that hurt Samantha more than she could say. And then there was the bed. The bed that was supposed to be hers, but that now belonged to someone else. She felt like everything she had ever wanted was slipping away from her, and she didn't know what to do.
She sank down onto the floor, her head in her hands. How had things gotten so out of control?
A dark thought began to form in Samantha's mind. She knew that if she wanted to keep Davis, she had to make him see that Jessica was a threat. And the best way to do that was to make things as difficult as possible for her. Maybe then, she would leave and never come back.
Samantha's eyes narrowed as she thought of all the ways she could make Jessica's life a living hell. And she knew that she had to act fast, before it was too late.
Samantha lay back on her bed, a cold smile on her face. It was clear now that she had only come back to get her hands on the family fortune. She didn't care about her son at all. Well, she would show Jessica who is Davis'wife and the boss lady of the Miller family. She would make sure that Jessica never got a single penny nor the love she deserves. And then, when she was gone, she would take care of Davis. She would make him see that she was the only one who really cared about him.
She closed her eyes, the darkness inside her growing stronger with each passing minute.
LATER THAT EVENING~~~~
Davis was feeling exhausted as he walked up the stairs. He had spent the afternoon at the park with his son, and while it had been a lot of fun, it had also taken a lot out of him. He just wanted to go to bed and rest for a while. But as he was walking down the hall, he saw Jessica coming out of the room. She looked at him with a sympathetic smile.
"You look like you've had a long day," she said.
"Do you want me to help you get ready for bed?"
Davis was surprised by her offer, but smiled at her.
Davis gratefully accepted Jessica's offer. She helped him take off his shoes and socks, and then brought him a glass of water. He drank it down, feeling the cool liquid refresh him. She then helped him change into his pajamas, and he climbed into bed. He was so tired that he was asleep before his head hit the pillow. He slept soundly.
Samantha had been watching from the shadows. She saw the way that Jessica had taken care of Davis, and she was furious. She couldn't believe that she had been so kind to him, when she knew that they were meant to be together. She felt like her whole world was falling apart, and she didn't know what to do. She started to cry, feeling like she had lost everything. But she knew that she couldn't give up. She had to fight for what she wanted.
She walked to the kitchen, trying to clear her head. She poured herself a glass of water, and took a long drink. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop thinking about what she had seen. The image of Jessica taking care of Davis kept playing over and over in her mind, like a broken record. She felt like she was going crazy, and she didn't know what to do.
She looked around the kitchen, trying to focus on something else.
With tears in her eyes, Samantha stormed back to her room. She slammed the door behind her, and then collapsed onto her bed. She buried her face in her pillow, and sobbed. She felt like her whole world was falling apart, and she didn't know what to do. She lay there for a long time, feeling lost and alone. But then, she heard a knock on the door.
"Samantha?" a soft voice called.
