A change of heart

A change of heart

CALVIN'S POV

As I stood in my mansion, gazing at my reflection in the mirror, I couldn't help but scratch my jaw and head. My phone was clutched in my hand, and my heart was racing with anticipation. It had been a week since we'd left the prison, and my thoughts had been consumed by Theresa, the daughter of Trump. Initially, my intention was to help her because of her connection to Mark and Juliet, but now my feelings had evolved into something more.

My heart skipped a beat as I hesitated, wondering if I should call her again. We'd spoken briefly a few times since our departure, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to her story and mine. How could I explain this to my people? They'd been wary of her family for so long, and now I was falling for her. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I had to be honest.

I took a deep breath and began to gather my thoughts. "I have something to share with you all," I said, practicing how to inform my people of the new development. "Something that's been on my mind since we left the prison. I've been getting to know Theresa, and...I've fallen in love with her."

I also tried to practice how to inform Theresa on the phone, or maybe I should just call her over. "They won't be silent again," I whispered to myself, my eyes fixed directly at my own reflection in the mirror. I could feel the weight of my gaze upon me, and I knew it wouldn't be an easy conversation.

I knew I had to tread carefully, considering our age difference and my lack of experience with love. I'd had sex with many ladies, but I'd never felt this way before. Maybe I should call her right now, I thought, awkwardly trying to dial her number. But then I stopped, dropping my hands downwards.

"Ah, oh God," I sighed and exclaimed in a low tone, still gazing at myself in the mirror. Should I call her now or just ignore the call? The question hung in the air without an answer.

What if she gets angry and never picks up my call again? I thought, considering the respect she'd shown me as a gang leader. But right now, my feelings were getting the better of me. What if she thinks I'm doing this just to get under her skirt?

Finally, I summoned the courage to dial her number and waited for her to pick up the call at the receiving end. The phone rang, and I waited anxiously to hear her voice speak back at me. "Hello?" I said to an empty ringtone, my heart racing with anticipation.

Theresa's POV

My heart skipped a bit as I saw my phone ringing and his name, Alvin, appearing boldly on my screen before me.

I hesitated to pick up the call at the first ring, my thumb hovering over the answer button as if waiting for some unseen signal to proceed.

The second ring came and went, and still, I didn't answer, savoring the brief moment of anticipation that seemed to stretch out before me like an eternity.

Why was I feeling this way? The last time I felt this way was with Mark, and since he had not shown me any interest, I'd never felt this way again.

He's a mobster, a gangster—why would I feel this way for him? When he calls, my heart shakes, and my fingers tremble as I try to pick up his call.

I don't know what to do, and I don't know if he feels the same way. There's something I haven't told him—what happened to my father in prison.

Although he said he would help me, this is getting too much for me to bear.

My mind was filled with these thoughts until the third ring, when I finally brought the phone to my ear.

My fingers trembled ever so slightly as I did so.

The screen glowed brightly in front of me, casting an eerie light on my face as I waited for his voice to fill the silence.

"Hello?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

The word hung in the air like a challenge, daring him to respond.

For a moment, there was only silence on the other end of the line, and I felt a flutter in my chest, wondering if he would even respond.

My mind began to wander, thinking about all the possibilities he could say, or maybe he wouldn't say anything at all.

As I waited, the silence seemed to stretch on forever, the stillness oppressive, like a physical weight pressing down upon me.

I could almost hear my own heartbeat in the quiet, the rhythmic thud-thud-thud a reminder that time was passing, and still, he didn't speak.

"Hello, hello, is someone there?" I encouraged him to say a word or two.

My eyes wandered around the room, taking in the familiar sights and sounds, but my focus remained on the phone, willing him to break the silence, to say something, anything, that would shatter the tension that had built up inside me.

And then, suddenly, his voice was there, low and smooth.

"Hello, Theresa," he spoke, sending shivers down my spine as it filled the silence, breaking the spell that had held me captive for so long.

I felt a jolt of surprise, my heart racing with anticipation as I waited to hear what he would say next.

"Mr. Cavin," I responded sweetly, my voice low yet firm.

I'm sorry for startling you like that. I will have been trying to reach you for a while now, but I don't know... I stammered on the phone as he was about to utter a word. I don't know what he was about to say to me, but I knew certainly that he was also being afraid and cautious of whatever he would say at the receiving end.

"Mister Kevin, I'm helpless. Have you found out any means that we can use to help my father?" I used that opportunity to ask, yeah, maybe that would bring up the conversation that we are scared of having.

"Oh, yes, I found out some details that could be helpful. I found the man who was the one that set up your father, the one who made sure that his fingerprint appeared on the gun. The only means is to make sure that we catch him red-handed and force him to testify on his behalf."

What he said sent a shiver down my spine and gave me a relaxing turmoil in my brain. Ah, I sighed softly to myself.

"I hope you are now calm. I hope that has gotten your attention. Right now, I am willing to do anything for you. I can do whatever you want me to do."

I submitted my life to him. He was about to say something, but he paused and noticed that he had lost control of his words. He didn't know what he was saying again, and he was saying what he wasn't supposed to say. He tried to control his emotions, but I guess that's gotten over him.

But not only him, as I responded with excitement in my voice, "Mister Kevin, I'm so... I love what you do. I love you for everything you've done for me, and I love it to continue."

I paused, shocked that I had uttered those words. It got his attention also, and we both paused.

We gave each other giggles, then we paused again at the receiving end. None of us wanted to say anything at that spot. We remained silent and speechless, still continuing with the giggles and chuckles.

We couldn't see each other, but we could hear the sound of the giggles in the background of the call.

Then Mr. Calvin forced himself to say something: "Ehm, can I see you today?" he asked swiftly, like a proper gentleman would do, and like a man.

"It's okay, eh? Where do you want us to meet?" I asked quickly, not wanting him to change his mind.

"I know he has a beauty to get to, and for him to say he wants to see me means he meant everything."

"Okay, I will take you out to dinner if it's okay by you," he asked again, like a gentleman.

"It's okay, I will gladly go out with you, Mr Calvin," I acknowledged.

With each of us wanting to continue with the call, we excitedly hung up on each end, both of us still giggling and shocked at the receiving end. After a few seconds, he was the one who summoned the courage to end the call, which ended on a soft tone to my ears.

But as I held my phone to my cheek, my mind never stopped thinking about everything we discussed.

I would be requesting that we see each other for dinner, just as if a dream had come true. I guess this was the first time a man had asked me for a proper dinner date without any strings attached to it.

Not like Ethan, who was trying to use me for his own advantage, or Mark, who never loved me, but I loved him. But what if he was trying to kill me?

A mind told me as I tried to get the reason why Mr. Calvin's change of heart was towards me.

“No, he cannot kill you—can't you see that he loves you? Another man said that my brain was stumbling all over, thinking about the bad or the good that might happen if I went to dinner with him or went deeper in a relationship with Mr. Calvin.

What if he's just using you just to punish your dad? No, I rejected that thought. If he's using me to get to my dad, my dad is already in a bad situation—what more could he want? After all, he's an uncle to Juliet. Like I know him, he's not a bad person. I said to myself, correcting my bad thoughts.

I was thinking so deeply and faster than I could process. I know he must have felt the same thing, but I didn't want to go beyond what I knew or go beyond what I had felt or experienced in the past.

I stood up from where I sat, arranging myself and getting ready for the dinner. He was so bored at any time now, and I must not keep him waiting. I'm very sure he would come here to pick me up, even though my mind still found it difficult to believe that a gang leader would submit to me.

I kept gazing at myself in the small mirror in my heart. My dad was beautiful, and for him to submit to me, I knew that he wished he was richer than me. Why the sudden change? It was all a question, and I intended to find out during this dCHAPTER 112. A CHANGE OF HEART
