Chapter 111: Diana
DIANA'S POV
“Who the hell is this Diego?" I asked myself inwardly,
As I sat in my cozy room, the soft glow of the lamp casting a warm light on the walls, I waited for Malcolm and the others to arrive with good news about Diego's whereabouts. The attack on my brother's warehouse had left me on edge, and I couldn't shake the feeling that Diego was escalating his tactics after one of his men was killed by my brother's men.
I was still reeling from the conversation with Juliet and her family, and now I was fixated on finding a way to stop Diego before it was too late.
As I sat there, my phone suddenly rang, bearing the ID of the caller. I stayed there for a moment, wondering who it would be. Malcolm, perhaps, with an update? I quickly picked up, expecting a familiar voice, but instead, Diego's menacing tone filled my ear.
"You're looking for me, Diana?" Diego sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "Well, I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere until I take care of you and your family and avenge the death of my man."
My heart racing, I tried to keep my voice steady. "What do you mean, Diego?" I demanded, trying to stall for time. I knew Diego was a master manipulator, and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of getting under my skin.
"Oh, you really think you can negotiate with me right now? It's too late, Diana," Diego laughed, the sound sending a chill down my spine. "You know exactly what I want," he said, his voice dripping with condescension, "and I'll stop at nothing to get it."
I felt a surge of anger at his words, but I knew I had to keep my cool. I took a deep breath and tried to think clearly. What did Diego want? Was it revenge for something that had happened in the past, or was it something more sinister related to what my brother had done previously?
"You're not going to get away with this, Diego," I said, trying to sound confident. "The authorities are closing in on you, and I will never rest. It's just a matter of time before they catch up with you."
"This case wasn't meant for you in the first place," Diego said, his voice laced with anger. "I was actually after the person who was with you."
"What do you mean, Diego?" I asked quickly.
"What I mean is that I'm after Juliet's life and her man," he said. "She was the one who killed my men, but my men didn't die at her hands. They sent someone to kill them."
I knew Diego was a cunning and ruthless individual, and I had to be careful not to underestimate him. But I also knew that I couldn't back down. I had to stand up for myself and my family, no matter what.
"I'm not afraid of you, Diego," I said, trying to sound brave. "And I'm not going to back down and submit Juliet and Mark to you. You're going to have to do better than just making threats if you want to get them."
Diego's laughter echoed through the phone, and for a moment, I felt a sense of unease. What did he have planned, and how was I going to stop him?
He had planned, and how was I there to stop him? "You are a clever one, aren't you?" Diego said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "But you're not as clever as you think you are. I've been watching you, studying you, and I know exactly how to get to you."
My heart skipped a beat as I realized that Diego had been watching me. What did he know? How was I going to protect myself and my family?
"You're not going to win, Diego," I said, trying to sound confident. "I'm not going to let you win."
Diego's laughter echoed through the phone, and for a moment, I felt a sense of unease. "We'll see about that," he said before hanging up the phone.
I sat there, my heart racing, my mind reeling. What had just happened? And what was Diego planning? I knew I had to act fast, but I also knew that I had to be careful. Diego had a history of violence, and I didn't want to underestimate him.
As I sat there, I couldn't help but think about the encounter between Juliet and Mark. It wasn't me, and it wasn't my brother, but I think Diego mistook me for Mr. Kelvin, who had hired a sniper to protect Juliet.
I couldn't let Diego see the fear that was growing in my mind. As a gang leader, I needed to make sure that I took control of everything that seemed to be a threat. But I also needed to inform Juliet about who her enemies were.
My mind kept reeling back to the day that Juliet had explained to me that she was attacked in Mark's apartment and that she wasn't the one who killed those men. She had tried her best to escape, but the sniper had shot them to death.
I knew that for now, I was left with more questions than answers. But I was determined to get to the bottom of it.
After a few minutes of sitting and ruminating in the room, Mark came in, driving with the men and with a smile glued on his face. "I've found his address," he said, and I could feel the excitement and assurance that the address they had found would lead to getting Diego to stumble and fall.
Mark had put in a lot of effort, and I was grateful for his dedication. I stood up immediately, shotgun in hand, and headed to the library with Mark following behind me.
Together, we headed to the entrance, and I swiftly opened the door and stepped inside. We walked towards a safe behind the many collections that Lorenzo had made when he was alive. I pressed a button, and the safe opened in two ways, revealing a collection of brand-new guns.
I picked up my new collection, while Mark loaded the guns into a bag that was placed on the table beside the collection. And we headed out together, ready to take on Diego and put an end to his reign of terror.
I stepped out of the main building; my man had already prepared the car. The door of my car, in the middle, was open for me to get in. I had five other black cars in front of me and two black cars guarding behind me. "Today, you pay for this," I wished, parting words to myself as my mind was fixed with anger.
I stepped into the car, and Malcolm stepped in at the same time on the other side of the car. He gave a quick order through the communication in his ear: "Move now, move," and they acknowledged it.
Each car had its own driver, filled with men ready to die for the cause they believed in. They were loyal to my brother and now loyal to me.
We sped away without hesitation from the mansion. After two hours of driving, the car stopped on a special sound. We parked very far away, about three blocks away from the location of the huge mansion that was boldly written at the top.
Malcolm whispered, "This is a very dangerous place to strike. The definition of a ten is not something to be dealt with." I wished bad luck in a low tone to myself as we all got down from the car and decided to sneak into the compound.
I gave an order for some of the men to sneak in behind the mansion's secret exit, while I gave an order for the rest of the men to follow with me and Malcolm and burst through the gate of the mansion. After a few seconds, half of my men had already gone behind the mansion's secret exit.
The rest of us drove in, bursting the big gate down with the front car speeding inside the gate, and men at the end of the gate shooting back at us. What was certain to me was that all our cars were bulletproof, and no gunshot could penetrate through the glass as we drove in very fast, approaching Malcolm's main building.
I tried not to allow any loopholes to affect us. "Malcolm, take over the wheels," I spoke, as one of my men was being shot by a long, big gun that penetrated through the glass of the cars.
“Get out now, Diana." I listened to his advice and crawled out of the car and hid myself behind the car while the shooting continued for a few minutes until Diego screamed at the top of his lungs.
“Stop!" Everyone stopped shooting, and he came out in his black round-neck top and black trousers with a short gun in his two hands.
“Show yourself Diana," he demanded and gradually walked towards me, but I pretended not to hear him at first,
“Diana Ross, come out right now if you aren't a coward like your brother, Lorenzo,” he screamed again and this time I was jolted to anger when I heard the name of if my brother,
“I'm here, don't shoot," I spoke sternly, and Malcom tried to stop me from coming out to show myself, but I didn't mind. I stepped forward, with my two hands downward, as I approached him slowly with precautions and with my shorts still filled with bullets.
“Diana!" He called in a low tone and gradually approached me. At first, I thought of my safety first, then when he got closer, his face became familiar.
“No… no, it can't be the person I'm thinking of right now," I muttered as my strong gaze was fixed on him.
“Yes, it's me, Diego Malvin,” he announced with a smile glued to his face, and everyone calmed their hands on their guns as they watched us move closer to each other, with my smiles and excitement getting all over us.
“Since all these years," I said, and he paused for a minute; instead, he gave me a warm hug.
“I've missed you, Diana, ever since I left Texas," he declared sharply, and I just giggled.
“How did you get here?" I asked, and expressions remained silent as we walked side by side towards the entrance of his mansion, leaving our men to suspicious gazes and disturbing minds.
“I reminisced on the good time we had when I was still with you in Texas,” he said softly and smiled back at me.
“I've missed you too, Diego, even though our meeting at the club wasn't for long.” I fixed my gaze directly at him as I sat on the couch in his huge room.
I can't seem to forget how he came to heal me the night I had an argument with my brother. He's a lifesaver," but why is he the one here? Why is he after Juliet's life?
So many Questions hung in the air, left unanswered by him.
