Chapter 21: +Chapter 21+

That was already telling enough but the fact that he roomed her right next to his own room and from what she heard, he had waited in her room till she woke up. Now he was ordering that she wear his clothes, and the crowning fact, she was already in his clothes.

With all of these obvious facts, it was easy for Vi to draw her own conclusions, So when she went to get one of King Kade’s clothes, it was easy for her to pick between the only dress shirt he owned and one of his well worn muscle shirts.

The silky black dress shirt was prettier but the muscle shirt practically had completely absorbed the werewolf King’s scent that not even several bouts of washing could get rid of.

A few minutes later, she was on her way back to Lady Mari’s room holding the carefully folded outfit. It was soft and stretchy and bound to be comfortable, not to mention, the added scent of King Kade was a bonus.

So Vi was very chipper when she returned to the room to find Lady Mari stepping out of the bathroom in a cloud of warm scented water. “Did you have a nice bath, Miss Mari?” She asked cordially. In the short time that she had known Lady Mari, she had been humble and very nice - a tad confused but everyone had those days.

Mari visibly relaxed when she saw who had come into the room, King Kade terrified her very much and she already dreaded having to eat breakfast with him. If he had been the one to come into her room just then, she would have turned around and drowned herself in the bathtub.

Her relief was short lived though when the maid excitedly held out the outfit she would be wearing. Mari didn’t let her displeasure show on her face, if there was one thing being a waitress for four years taught her, it was that.

Why were her only clothes for the day just an oversized shirt? Just like this morning, it was exactly the same shirt as this morning. Was there literally nothing else for her to wear? Couldn’t Vi borrow her some of her own clothes? Frankly, she would wear the flimsy nightdress that had been under the shirt she had on instead of King Kade’s clothes.

To make things worse, the shirt in Vi’s hands was literally steeped in King Kade’s scent, the dark chocolate with rich smoky undertones made her both frightened and agitated. *Did she smell that badly? Was that why he ordered that she wear his shirt to hide her scent? Did witches smell bad?*

Mari bit her tongue to hold back the desperate question that nearly fell past her lips. She had nearly asked Vi if witches had a bad smell, talk about putting her own foot in her mouth. She knew that other than King Lucien and King Kade, no one really knew for sure that she was actually a witch, at least not anyone she had come across.

She could already picture Vi’s reaction if she found out that she was a witch, her friendly smile would immediately crumple to one of disgust and fear, and she would be lucky if she wasn’t immediately attacked.

“…ss Mari? Miss Mari?” The maid’s voice broke into her dark and violent thoughts, “You have to get dressed quickly, it’s already time for breakfast.”

Mari grimaced as she took the shirt from the beaming maid, as well as the brand new pair of expensive underwear already sitting in her wardrobe that was offered to her. If an expensive brand of women’s underwear was already in the wardrobe, why wasn’t actual clothes prepared for her as well, it only solidified her earlier suspicions.

Vi glowed when she put on the shirt that was right about suffocating her from how potent the scent on it was like it was a one of a kind bejeweled ball gown and Mari didn’t have any energy to be spiteful about it.

“Could you take me to the dining room please?” She asked, completely exhausted although her day was just beginning.

Vi took one look at her unstyled hair and blanched, “Please, Miss Mari, let me…”

“There’s no need,” She firmly cut her off, predicting what the maid would say from the fixated look of horror on her face as she stared directly at her hair. Mari wasn’t too quick to forget that last time she had gotten dolled up for a meeting with royalty.

Eating breakfast with King Kade was bound to have very bad consequences for her, if she had to face that with like a gold pin in her hair, she would snap.

Vi knew when not to push so she quickly curtsied and led the way out of the room.

It was Mari’s first time stepping out of the room since she was brought in *asleep? Unconscious? Who the hell knew?* She didn’t remember how she had slept off the night before so she was sure she had fainted dead away after finding out first hand about her powers. How very ‘witch’ of her, to faint dead away after seeing witch fire produced by her own hands.

The hallways were more compact than the hallways in King Lucien’s palace, and this wasn’t to say they were smaller. It was just that while King Lucien preferred flashy and grand interior designs, King Kade was the direct opposite. It was dimly lit enough for it not to be obtrusive and the architecture style was very simplistic, with no high arched ceilings with golden linings or velvet carpets on the floor.
