Chapter 58 Confronting Luke
When he was gone, William tightened his grip on her shoulder, engraving a dread she won’t be able to discard ever again.
Her breaths were uneven, lowering her head more when he stopped at her ears and warned her seriously.
“And you wouldn’t dare to think about seeing him,”
Upholding her frontage, her features hardened, she decided to remain strong and questioning back.
“And what if I did?”
She didn’t think about it either. She knew Luke never trusted her enough to believe in her justification.
She would merely come as a liar and gold-digger.
In fact, among all her chances to escape him, none of them included Luke’s assistance. Nor was she that shameless.
Still she teased William, “What if I sought his help?”
Smirking in return, he whispered in her ears, “What if I lock you in the room to ensure you stay there permanently like your things?”
“Why don’t you do this to my corpse?” She scoffed, pulling away from him.
These words were the reasoning she required liberation from him, not through another difficult path- that was another matter, it was harsh already.
“What fun would that be? It won’t cry, shout, fight, or do anything you do,”
Frowning when she saw nothingness etched on his eye-catching features and ripped his hand off from her shoulder to grab a drink.
He arched an eyebrow, secretly indulging in her reactions, as usual.
“Broken toys are not fun, Darling,”
“You-”
She was about to throw her glass at him but he held her wrist smoothly, yanking her body into his muscular one.
“Ah, come on, don’t do anything stupid,”
Although a sly smirk was plastered, he warned Arabella to watch her actions and not soil his image.
She glared, scanning around the hall as everyone was smiling at them. Considering their closeness is an act of adoration.
“I. Am. Not. A. Toy,”
Breathing out calmly, she moved back, facing her back to him. At the very least, trying to indulge in the savory food to divert her mind from him.
Grabbing a drink as well, he pleased his gaze, taking a sip of it when she was puffing.
Back confronting him was enough to please him too. Chuckling, the second she took a bite of a tart, he pushed her from his shoulder, causing the tart to fall from her hand.
“William,” She gasped, glancing over her shoulder.
“Sorry about that,” He winked, grabbing another tart, offering her a bite, “Here, eat all you want,”
She took a bite and spoke with her mouth full, “Of course, I will. That is the only thing to do here,”
He simply smiled, wiping the smeared food with his thumb. But, his rhythm was shattered when another guest came and greeted them.
“Ah, William, we know she is your wife, you don’t have to stare with such affection,”
His moment was ruined but faking his charms, he turned to them with a tender reply.
“If I won’t look at her then where else I will?”
“All eyes are on you two,”
“And my eyes are on hers,”
He formed his charming posture, taking a sip of his drink with his one hand in his pocket, looking devilishly handsome.
Arabella’s jaw clenched to hear it, glancing over her shoulder, still eating, glaring at him for twisting words to earn favor.
“Mhm-” She cursed.
“Darling, finish your bite first,” William smiled, offering his glass so she could drink from his glass. Rolling her eyes, she did.
And to everyone, they thought she was just a rude, ungrateful woman who got a ‘good’ guy. She no longer cared about it.
As she was glaring at him, a server stopped near her, offering her something to eat and whispered.
“Use restroom,”
She stood blankly, failing to perceive why he said this and the faintest resonance reached William that made him turn.
“What did he say?”
“I asked him about the restroom,”
She followed the words nonetheless, wondering who it could be.
“I will go with you,”
“You seriously have zero trust in me, no?”
“Why should I trust you in the first place?”
“Yeah, enter the women’s restroom. Be my guest,”
“Fine. Go,”
With a constant glare on him to which she earned a smirk, he leaned against the wall as she went inside the female restroom.
She saw Peach there already, her pink dress holding the brightest radiance among all guests, causing her to be the center of attention apart from William and his bride.
Her eyes were judging Arabella, not liking her one bit, clenching and unclenching her hands to soothe herself, trying not to ruin her charm.
“You…?”
The second the door was closed, hating her immensely in her heart, Peach got to the main point coldly.
“Luke wants to talk to you, see him for once, tell him why did you do this to him,”
For a heartbeat, she sincerely wanted to go and express her heartache to him but then she remembered him never wronging his brother.
William was above all.
No one would believe in her.
Lifting her head up, Arabella folded her arms at her chest, replying in the same unwanted tone.
“Why should I see him when I know he will believe none of my words?”
“Don’t you think you owe him an explanation at least before going back to your happy married life?” She retorted, shrugging her shoulders.
She didn't know why she was involving herself in their family matter but she had driven deep into this matter already.
“Why do you care?”
She smirked coldly, “Call me a spectator, Mrs. Grayson,”
“Tsk,”
“He is in the third room on the left on the upper floor. I will distract William for the time being. Leave after five minutes,”
She instructed and was about to leave the restroom but Arabella stopped her, having zero idea about her because Luke never mentioned her either.
“Who are you to Luke, Peach?”
When that statement came, a question rose in Peach’s heart-
‘So I was ‘that’ unimportant that you didn’t bother to tell her about me?’
And witnessing her position in Luke’s life, an unknown moistness came to her beautiful eyes.
Subsequently, she announced the correct answer before leaving.
“A nobody,”
Although she didn’t want to display vulnerability, the gloomy tenderness in her voice bewildered Arabella.
She narrowed her eyes, failing the context and waited as she followed the instruction.
It was unfavorable on her side but to reduce the ache she imprinted on Luke’s life, she decided to comply.
‘I have already ruined myself with my choices, don’t drag yourself along, Luke. Move on,’
She thought and gathered her whole posture, she got out and saw William was gone with Peach along with another man.
“It’s alright, Arabella,”
Convincing herself, she took a deep breath and went to the room.
Her heartbeats hammered against her chest, it was undesirable yet she entered the room and saw him there miserably.
“Luke,”
And there he was, in a messed up state, with puffy eyes, staring intensely at her with slightest expectations as she found her whole being stiff when he called her name.
“Arabella,”
