Chapter 19 Using Authority
She realized what decision she made in a hurry. Swaying along William’s feelings and compassion, she ended up giving him a chance.
But, what about the consequences?
What is going to happen now?
With stress reaching its uttermost extent, not only did she fail to pay attention to herself but also work the following days.
“I am sorry, Sir,”
Blending her personal feelings with professional ones, she misplaced an important file, leading her to be reprimanded terribly by her Boss.
“HOW COULD YOU MISPLACE IT?! WHAT ARE YOU GOOD FOR IF YOU CAN’T KEEP IT SECURE!?” Warren yelled furiously at her.
With tears in the corner, her gaze was lowered, cursing herself for making such a stupid mistake.
“I am sorry, Sir, I am so sorry, I-I will find it,” She whimpered that did not help and increased his wrath.
“THEN FIND IT QUICK, YOU GOOD-FOR-NOTHING ASSISTANT!”
She flinched when he punched the table, scaring her and in that moment William entered the cabin after hearing the noise.
“Woah, what is happening?” He asked calmly, mouth gaping at the sight.
Especially at her display of startle which was highly favorable for him.
“This stupid girl misplaces the monthly report, Sir, you said she is a competent one but she is just a dumb girl,”
Ashamed, she glanced at William apologetically. Saddened, she led him down.
She whispered sincerely, “I am sorry for the disappointment, Sir… This won’t happen again,”
Glancing at the two of them where Warren was glaring at Arabella who remained still, accepting her faults. Yet taking her anger out, he pointed his finger at her.
“What is your use if you can’t do one thing properly!?”
“Warren,”
William appeared in between, his hands resting in his pocket dominantly.
“Yes, Sir?”
Warren instantly lowered her finger, looking down when he stood before her as a shield and responded monotonously.
“She didn’t, I took it. I was going through your monthly sales reports. I knew you were dying for a chance. No doubt you performed well to prove yourself, Warren. Good job,”
Warren sighed in relief, approaching his boss quickly, “R-Really? So can I have my post-”
And then he flashed his maliciousness, returning a scary smile.
“Unfortunately,”
Taking a large step, he stopped before Warren, stiffening him when he held his tie in a warning grip.
“It’s not enough to satisfy me. You have served your one month notice. You can take your compensation and leave,”
“No- no, Sir, please, I am sorry, I will work harder-”
William continued to smile vilely, giving him a warning stare to leave politely unless he wanted to humiliate himself.
“You should have thought before doing a fraud. You thought you could betray my enterprises and I wouldn’t know?”
“Sir, have mercy, please-”
And his pleading wiped his amusement, giving his tie a harsh yank, not in the mood to repeat his words.
“You are fired, Mr. Warren. Thank you for your service and years, please leave,”
Lowering his head in defeat, he nodded, “Yes, Mr. Grayson,”
When Warren left after losing his job, William attended an important call, leaning against the table, unbuttoning his coat handsomely as Arabella stared at him in disbelief.
“Yeah, email me the details. Leave the file on my table and arrange the meeting with Vince too.”
Cutting the call, his gaze lifted at the woman who timidly lowered gaze, clutching her dress and asked softly.
“Did you really take the file?”
“No,” He smirked, putting his phone back.
“How dare he yell at my wi- you like this? That reason alone is enough for me to fire him,”
Her mouth gaped in incredulity. He wallowed in her reaction, blinking to come to her senses, she held her arm weakly.
“Um...Why didn’t you use the word ‘wife’? I thought you were dying to make me yours-”
“Let’s clear that, you are not mine, if it was so easy, I would have forced you to sign those papers long ago,”
Tilting her head adorably, she questioned innocently, “But, at least, why don’t you want people to know?”
“Because it feels surreal.”
He chuckled emptily before straightening his back and approaching her steadily, stealing strength from her feet to move away.
“People usually don’t gain what they pray for or desire madly. If they do, It must have been like an unstoppable nightmare,”
“A nightmare?” She questioned, gripping her shirt rigidly when he stood extremely close, “How?”
“If it turned to be only a deception and I will realize none of it happened, it wouldn’t be less than one,”
“But, It’s real, William,”
“I know. I could tell, if it was my fantasy, even the word ‘distance’ wouldn’t have existed,”
Contemplating her unstable breaths, beautiful orbs looking everywhere but him and the second he brought his hand to her shoulder, they tense instinctively.
“See? Like this, how realistic,”
Smiling sorrowfully, he merely held a strand of her hair between his fingers. Intensely lost in her slightest reaction, he kissed her hair.
“So close yet so far,”
To apprehend what he did for her, made her shift away as the level of his silent madness knocked disturbance with a question-
‘There was NO way it could have gone unnoticed by me. Where and when did I fail?’
“And relax, don’t make this face, I was going to fire him anyway. He did fraud, I only used him as a medium,”
Shrugging his shoulders, hiding his disappointment, he flashed a professional smile that eased her up.
Humming, not to raise awkwardness, she asked, changing the topic.
“So what now?”
“Although I wouldn’t prefer you working. But, a little nepotism never hurts. Do you want his position? But, do know I am one hell of a boss,”
He offered playfully, folding his arms at his chest and resting against the table again.
“No, no, I am fine in this position. I don’t think I can handle it yet... When I couldn’t handle a file. Thank you for offering though,” She replied nervously.
“Okay then, I will assign someone else until then, you have to bear with me, if you don’t mind,”
“Why would I… Sir?”
“Thanks.”
Unintentionally placing his hand over her head to ruffle her hair a little, he walked away, leaving her stunned with an eerie sensation, and an order.
“Handle everything for today, I will see you tomorrow. I have a busy schedule today already, I just came to see you,”
“O..Okay,”
