Chapter 125 First Day
Luke and Peach were starting their new life with a purpose which might be unhealthy for both of them. They knew the path ahead won’t be as sugary as they perceived it to be yet started.
Subsequently, Luke woke up when sunlight penetrated through the windows. Groaning, his hand extended to lay on his new bride only to find closeness.
“Huh…?”
Blinking, he rubbed his eyes to clear his vision and search for Peach only to find her in her usual immaculate form of an unbreakable business woman.
“Oh? Awake? Good Morning, Darling,” She greeted sweetly, arranging a stack of files that vanquished the man’s delight.
“What are you doing?”
“Papa called, some work came up. I am sorry, I have to leave but I will try my best to return soon,”
Displeased, her nervous chuckles failed to subdue the disapproval.
“This is the first day of our marriage, Peach,” Luke argued, lifting his head up a little, “I thought you wrapped things up like me,”
“I did but this is urgent,”
He didn’t want her to go, not when they just initiated a new path together.
“But, I will be back soon. I will try my best,”
Peach forced a shaky smile, noticing his displeasure, praying he would understand.
By all means, she didn’t want her first day to be a horrible one. That wasn’t how she wanted to start her first day either.
Groaning, he pressed his head harder into the pillow, shutting his eyes to subdue the disappointment yet trying to be considerate he asked.
“Can we at least have breakfast together?”
“Sorry. Getting late,”
“Fine,” he muttered.
Still shirtless, exposing his ripped muscles, he sat up, running his fingers through his locks, scattering them over his forehead.
Peach smirked, blowing a kiss at his flawless body that showed her a new level of euphoria, reviving the lust she was concealing for all these years.
He got up and walked to the bathroom without acknowledging her presence which wiped her amusement, replacing it with a frown.
After freshening up, Luke walked out and saw Peach standing right in front of him with her arms folded at her chest.
“Are you angry?”
“No,” He sighed, holding his sides, “I am just disappointed that your father cannot handle the work alone for one day.”
Loosening her shoulders, Peach stepped forth, gripping his shirt to bring him as close as possible. Her emerald gaze lowered with dejection as she murmured, justifying her urgency.
“He had been handling the work alone for years, Luke. And it’s my responsibility now as the successor and his only child.”
Luke opened his mouth to argue but her grip tightened.
“This is the least I could do for him. I hope you can understand,”
He stared at her face for the next few seconds. The hollowness of her eyes also indicated it was unfavourable for her too but she had no choice either.
“I do.” He relaxed, shaking his head.
“Sorry about that. Go. And be back soon,”
Pulling her into a side hug to kiss the top of her head for assurance, disappearing her sadness in one gesture.
A beautiful smile crept on her lips, swaying along instantly to melt in his warmth, wrapping her hands around him, her face lit up.
“Of course,”
Exchanging a smile, she pulled back, gathering her stuff quickly to leave and get her ordeal done as soon as possible.
“Don’t forget to have breakfast,”
“You too,”
After a bitter morning, Luke decided to go back to their new home to prepare a surprise for Peach when she would return.
Peach entered her workplace with fumes emitting from her, signaling no one should dare to interfere or piss her off, earning weird looks from everyone to be present on her first day of marriage.
Her father was waiting for her in her cabin, tapping his foot on the ground, awaiting her arrival with a grimace.
“What took you so long?”
“It’s the first day of my marriage, Papa.”
She rolled her eyes, throwing her things on the table and picking the one her father called her for, going through it.
Her face was flat, keeping her wrath at bay, showing no interest in the meeting or the file. It was easy according to her.
“Yes. But, could it be above your work? Didn’t you promise you will never compromise your work?”
“Yes, Papa, that is why I am here the moment you called,” Sighing in frustration, she shut the file, throwing it back on the table.
Pushing her hair back, she leaned on the table. Luke’s disapproval stung her but she was bound by obligations too.
Mr. Harrison saw the hesitation in her eyes and stopped before her, reminding her of her duties strictly.
“Peach. I want you to know that you are the successor of the Galaxy Chain first. Don’t forget your duties. They come first.”
“Yes, just like for you. Nothing else matters before it,” She scoffed sarcastically.
“Nothing above work. Not your wife. Your daughter. Or the little moments you could have enjoyed,”
She shifted her eyes away as a disheartened mutter escaped her lips, curling her hand in a fist where she found herself all alone during her life.
Mr. Harrison pretended not to hear it, “What do you mean by this?”
“Nothing, I will attend the meeting and get done with it soon,” Forcing a hollow smile, being the good daughter, she shifted back, picking the file once again to get it done as soon as possible.
“And then go back to my home where I left my husband,”
Mr. Harrison glared for a few seconds, displeased with her ‘unreasonable’ devotion but well aware of his daughter’s nature, he gave up.
“Whatever. Just get it done and go back. Enjoy your marriage,”
She smiled mockingly, waving the file at him, “That is what I am going to do ‘unlike’ you, Papa,”
Once again, it had no effect on him. He waved his hand back in the air, shrugging the matter off before walking away.
“Yeah, yeah,”
