When Robert was digging into Sophia's background, he didn't have the chance to check out her dad, so he had no clue her father had passed away.
He instinctively asked, "Did his death have anything to do with Tony or Kurt?"
"No, he died of stomach cancer," said the person on the other end of the phone.
Meanwhile, Ethan got a call too. After hanging up, he told Robert, "Robert, the cops tailing Sophia said she went to Kurt's company."
Robert looked up and saw Sophia blending into the crowd under the neon lights, her face blank.
She walked into a Mexican restaurant on the first floor of the building. As soon as she stepped in, a staff member asked, "Hello, how many people?"
"Just me," she replied.
Outside, Ethan nudged Robert, "Let's grab some Mexican food too and see what Sophia's up to."
"Sure, let's go." Robert followed him into the restaurant. They sat down not far from her.
Sophia had barely any food on her table and was eating with intense focus, not even looking up. After a bit, Kurt walked in with his wife and kids.
One kid sat next to him, the other next to his wife. They were all chatting and laughing.
Sophia ate alone, her face still blank, while the family of four enjoyed their meal.
Ethan suddenly said, "I don't feel like eating anymore."
Robert glanced at the solitary Sophia, feeling a mix of emotions.
Sophia witnessed her mother being brutally tortured to death at the age of 8, and her father passed away from illness when she was 14. On top of that, all their money went towards her father's treatment, leaving her with nothing.
But this penniless girl not only survived but also became as impressive as she was now. She must have gone through a lot.
Kurt's son piped up, "Dad, I'll sing a song for you as a gift. You work so hard."
Kurt's son started singing loudly, and everyone in the restaurant was watching them, except for Sophia.
At 8 o'clock, Sophia left, and the cops tailing her reported to Robert that she went to a pavilion by Willow River. Kurt's family was still eating at that time.
But not long after, Kurt finished eating and took his wife and kids to the playground near the pavilion.
And the distance between Sophia and Kurt was close.
The surrounding lights were dim, and two cameras were blocked by dense branches, making the environment perfect for something shady to occur.
He called his two colleagues following Sophia, "Don't let her out of your sight."
At that moment, Kurt took one of his sons to the public restroom, and his wife took the other kid to play on the trampoline.
Ethan secretly followed Kurt, while Robert kept an eye on the surroundings, thinking, 'Why does Sophia take 30 minutes from her work to eat Mexican food downstairs at Kurt's company and then take a walk along the river near her office?'
"Mom!" In the dark, a child screamed in fear from a high place.
Robert looked up and saw Kurt's son bouncing high on the trampoline repeatedly, his face filled with terror.
He screamed, "Don't push my Mom!"
Robert was standing a bit away from the river. He turned to look at the riverbank, where a shadow was running away, and the river's surface was shimmering, making it hard to see clearly.
"Help, my mom was pushed into the river," The child screamed heart-wrenchingly.
Robert's hair stood on end. Kurt's wife was pushed into the river! 'Is this revenge? Is this why Sophia came here?' he thought.
