Chapter 45: You're Not Special
Chapter 45

Elena
I shouldn't have followed him.
I told myself it was for closure and for clarity. But deep down, some naive part of me still wanted to hear him say it—that what we had wasn't real. That I could finally let go of whatever ghost he still haunted me with.
Lucian didn’t even look surprised when I stepped into the far hall, trailing behind him like a fool. He barely paused before slipping through a side door and holding it open for me, with a cocky smirk curving his mouth.
He didn’t even look at me when he said it. “I knew you’d come. You always do.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re not special.”
I stepped inside afterwards.
The moment the door shut, I regretted it. The room was dim and quiet. It was one of the old guest quarters. A lot of old books were stacked unevenly on the desk.
He turned finally, leaned against the wall like this was casual. “No? You came all this way.”
I crossed my arms. “Say whatever you dragged me here for.”
"You tell me," he said, stepping closer. "You followed me."
He was very close. That familiar scent of his that used to make my knees weak, now made me tired.
“You just disappeared into thin air, and I'm just finding out you were on punishment.”
He let a humourless laugh. “Ahh yes, apparently someone ratted us out and I was punished for it.”
I didn't respond.
“I can see you enjoyed my absence, or did you perhaps miss me?” He said with a grin.
“Stop messing around.”
“I came back because I couldn't get you out of my fucking head darling."
I flinched.
"Don't call me that."
He stepped closer, my back hit the edge of the desk.
"You liked it when I said that," he murmured. "You used to beg for it."
My stomach twisted.
He reached up, brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, but I turned my face away.
"Stop it."
"I know you feel it," he said. "Even if you're pretending not to. You think Kael makes you feel the way I did?" He said, leaning in.
My body didn’t forget him and I hated that.
“I don't feel anything,” I whispered.
He smirked. “Could’ve fooled me.”
Then he kissed me lightly and I let it happen—for a second.
Then I froze and pulled back. “Don’t.”
Lucian grabbed my wrist lightly. “Seems I took too long.”
“Remember your place,” I said sharply.
I knew he didn’t like that, and he didn’t even say anything either.
My chest felt tight.
“I’m not yours, Lucian,” I whispered. “Never was I, and never will I.”
I yanked my wrist from his hand and stepped back.
“Don’t touch me again.” I said, then left.
My head was a mess, I shouldn't have followed him.
And of course someone saw me. At least it was someone I knew.
Rhea stood at the far end, her eyes locked on mine.
I don’t know how much she heard, or how long she’d been standing there.
I walked past her without stopping.
What was I supposed to say?
‘Hey, sorry I made a stupid choice and now I feel sick’?
No thanks.
Rhea's POV
Later that night, I stood at the courtyard when Lucian walked up to me. It was odd but I was curious to hear what he had to say.
He lit a cigarette and leaned back on the bench like it was any other evening.
“Hello Rhea.”
“Long time Lucian.” I said, with sarcastic intentions.
“You are already judging.
“I don't know what you are talking about.”
"You don't trust me, do you?" he said.
I didn't respond.
He smirked, took a drag and puffed out.
“Well, what are you here for?” I said, crossing my arms.
"Just thought you should know... I and Elena had sex."
My brows furrowed. "Why are you telling me this?"
"Because you're her best friend, and because when she finds out she’s pregnant, you deserve to know the truth."
I went still.
"Pregnant?"
Lucian shrugged. "She’s glowing. Same way she did last time she went into heat. Except this time, she came to me."
He tapped the ash off his cigarette and stood.
"Tell her she doesn’t have to be ashamed, I’ll take care of her. I always would’ve."
Then he walked off.
I sat there frozen and my mouth parted.
Elena
I sat on the edge of my bed, with my hands curled in the blanket. The room was quiet and Kael hadn't return.
I thought Lucian showing up at this time was going to give me mixed feelings, but I was surprised with the way I handled it. I knew the old me would have jumped on him and hugged him. But I guess Kael impact over these few weeks we're stronger.
