Chapter 18: Plans in motion

Traeger:

She was amazing tonight. I don’t know what to think. I definitely didn’t think that mating could be so profound. Thankfully, I’m able to sneak back to my room without issue. Once I’m there, I send a private message to Grey and Arsenal. “I found a way to contact the council. Jelena had a cellular phone. I was able to hack into the council system and contact someone there. They plan on calling me for a meeting. I have Jelena’s phone, but I need to find a safe place to hide it.”

I wait for a moment before they both respond. “The guards already checked our rooms. The phone should be safe with you for a few days, at least.” I nod my head. “True. I will keep it in one of my books for now.”

We plan for a few moments before we close communications. For the rest of the night, I lay there, recalling my passionate encounter with Jelena, and instantly fall asleep with a smile on my face.

That morning, things are still tense in the Institute. Dorian is still belligerent with the doctors. You can hear his screams and growls from the hallway. I grit my teeth with anger every time I hear his anguished cries. What are they doing to him?

Dr. Shepard and Dr. Spencer walk down the hallway, whispering as I pass by. They don’t even seem to notice me. As soon as they’re out of sight, I meet my pack in the training room. They are all lifting weights and running on treadmills. Arsenal and Grey meet me in a safe spot.

Grey’s brow is furrowed in consternation. “Any word from the council?” I shake my head. “No, but it shouldn’t be long before he calls me. We need to set something up with the pack. I don’t want anything to happen to them and us when the council arrives. We have to find a way to control these receptors and get rid of our location codes indefinitely.” Arsenal leans forward. “Have you tried to hack through with your cellular phone?” I shake my head, trying not to let the helplessness overtake me. “I tried, but we need to go into the actual system to make this change. I need to get back into that room.”

We pull apart as a few guards pass by and casually stride towards the sparring floor. Arsenal pretends to be my partner, while Grey pretends to referee our fight.

Once the guards pass, we pretend to wipe down. Grey looks around, “Dorian seems to still be out of control. Maybe we can use that to our advantage. I can go near his cage and incite his anger. It shouldn’t take much since the doctors are already upset over his behavior.” I shake my head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. We need Dorian in case anything goes bad.” They both let out a resigned breath. “What do we do then?” Running through my options, I slide my fingers through my hair at a loss as to what to do. “I don’t know. Maybe I can talk to this Mathias guy and see how the council can help us. I just need them to call. We can figure it out then. Right now, I’m going back to my room now. Keep an eye on the doctors. As soon as I get the call, I’m heading out right away.” They both nod their heads in agreement.

Once I get to my room, I get a call from the council. It’s time to save my people.
