Chapter 6: The New Boss

Jaxon's POV:

Mr. Park led the way into the conference room. Immediately we stepped in, all eyes turned on us.

I looked at the curious faces, one at a time. Untill our eyes met— Her eyes were almost dropping out of their socket in surprise.

I smirked.

I had imagined this moment over and over— watching her eyes widened in surprise gave me some kind of self-confidence.

My steps became even more determined as I swaggered after the old man.

I took the empty seat at the head of the table, shot a glance at her.

But she seemed to have made up her mind to not even spare me a glance.

I chuckled softly.

What a hard nut to crack!

Mr. Park cleared his throat. I relaxed against the soft leather chair unconcerned with whatever he was about to say.

My eyes were on Vixen. After that night at the Tech Gala, I had my men get me everything they could on her in regards to her career.

Her voice was really enchanting, her personality far more mysterious. I was genuinely curious about her.

And right now as I stared at her, my curiosity heightened.

I got Mr. Park the previous owner to sign over his rights to the label, I wanted to own her: her voice and her career.

I needed to know everything about her.

Father thought I was being recklessly throwing money around again. But looking at her right now, I believed it was worth it.

Our eyes met again, she glared at me and quickly looked away.

I was at a loss.

Huh! Why was she always like this with me?

Was I that annoying?

“...Mr. Jaxon, please.” I heard my name, I unconsciously looked up.

“What's it?” I asked, staring at Mr. Park.

Who was also looking at me, trying his best to put up ‘his most charming' smile.

“I was asking if you had anything to say as the new employer.”

“Oh!” I nodded.

I wasn't really skilled in this aspect, so I retained Mr. Park to still handle the affairs of the studio. I just needed to show up officially and he'd do his stuff.

I stood up, placed two hands on the table. Then cleared my throat. My eyes swept over everyone sitted before I started.

“I'm glad to have to work with everyone of you.” I locked eyes with Ryan.

He managed a weak smile, His face looked as if he was not fully convinced if he should smile or cry.

“I believe with our combined efforts we can move this label to the next phase—”

I paused, pulled out a file, that Mr. Park had brought with him. All the time conscious of the several eyes watching me warily, not knowing what I was going to do.

I picked the file, and smiled at them to ease the tension.

I could still see some staffs gulp regardless.

What were they scared of?

“I recently acquired a personal home studio, that I think would be convenient for the practice of few talented singers here.” I said calmly, but loud enough so everyone could hear.

A few of the staffs finally looked relaxed, drawing in deep breaths.

It was then I realized, this people thought I wanted do away with some of them.

Anyway, I cleared my throat again.

The room fell silent, a very thickened silence. All eyes were on me.

“I would be personally coaching this people on the list alongside some other professionals.” I dictated, one hand holding the list. While the other resting on the desk in front of me.

I stared around again, looking at their puzzled faces.

“From now on, all rehearsals regarding these selected artistes must only be done in my studio.”

Someone gasped. A young lady in a red hoodie. She had a scar on her left jaw. With long locs falling on her shoulder.

I continued, calling out the names of the selected people.

“Karen Thomas”

A lady in denim jackets looked up at me.

Blonde hair— the absolute front page magazine girl vibe.

“Edwin Lamb.” I read out the next name, then looked up to see who it was.

A black American, probably around his early twenty's. He had a very small body build and looked even so in his tight fitting jacket.

“Lan Williams.”

Another man, he just nodded.

“Adren”

“That's me.” The girl with the locs said in a raspy voice.

I turned to the last name on the list, my face broke into a smile. Let's see how she was going to escape meeting me now.

I chuckled softly, looked up into her face and then called the name.

Slowly. Tasting it against my tongue and watching her face turn solemn from the sound of her name.

“Laura Jacobs, The Vixen.”

I dropped the file on the desk, still looking at her. She looked like she wanted to murder me… and I’d never been more curious to know why..

She definitely hated me.

Why?

All I have been doing was playing the nice guy and investing in her talent. Still she resented me so much.

Whatever it was, I was determined to let her see the good in me at least.

“These are all the selected artists, I would be personally coaching.” I said, this time staring into those hazel eyes unflinching.

I was staring at that face, I didn't care whatever resentments she had towards me.

I was the boss now, and I called the shot— on who she should like or hate!
