Chapter 6
It has been two weeks and no word from anyone. Emma tried calling me many times, but I can't bring myself to talk to her, not after concealing the truth from her.
Chance has been trying to drive me crazy. He even went as far as officially making me his maid, which meant I had to do his laundry, cleaning, and cooking.
But I can't complain. After all, he is letting me stay in his house, I can't give up on him just yet. He must love me deep down. I can feel it by the emotion he shows sometimes.
I got in touch with a doctor and today is my first appointment. My baby bump is not yet noticeable, but I feel a hardness in my lower abdomen.
It has been stressful these past few days with all my morning sickness and mood swings, but I am coping with the idea of bringing a new life into this world.
It’s amazing, but it also scares me. I have no idea how to be a mother, so I decided to register online for classes that were all about being a mother and I also bought maternity books. But I still wish my mum and Sylvia were here to support me.
I finish washing the dirty dishes before deciding to get ready for my appointment with the doctor.
Checking the time, I have an hour to get ready, which is more than enough time.
I take a short shower before changing into a pink sweater and ripped jeans. I pick up my purse and head towards the bus stop, but not without telling Chance I was leaving.
I just wish he could come with me, but he doesn't care. I asked him to accompany me but all he did was walk out on me. He has been doing this lately and it is taking all my willpower not to snap.
It took me 30 minutes to get to the hospital. I always hated going to the hospital. I don’t like seeing sick people or knowing there was medicine everywhere.
I walk into the waiting room and a secretary gives me a card and asks me to wait. After 20 minutes, I saw the doctor.
Moving lazily into the office, a lady doctor greeted me. She had black hair that reached her shoulders and beautiful, shining brown eyes.
"Hello, how are you doing?" she asks with a simile.
"Feeling okay," I reply, smiling, and take a seat opposite hers.
"You must be Shiloh Sante," she says extending her hand for a friendly handshake. “I am Doctor Anna Carson. Please lay on that bed over there," she says, pointing towards a small bed.
After the tests and everything, she prescribed me some drugs and vitamins before letting me leave.
I drop my bag on the little stool before lying flat on the couch tired from today's stress.
"Girl, you have some explaining to do," Emma says, almost causing my heart to fly out of my chest. She walks towards me with her hands crossed over her chest and eyebrows raised.
I sat up nervously, looking everywhere but at her. "What are you doing here? Lectures haven’t started yet."
"Shiloh," she warns me, "I am worried about you. Shiloh, please talk to me," she says, taking my hands with imploring eyes.
"Where is everyone?" I question, looking towards the steps.
Emma sighs loudly. "They are in Chance’s room," she says with a scowl. She must think I’m trying to change the subject.
I stand up and walk towards the door. "Let’s go outside," I say, pulling the door open before walking out to the front yard.
Talking a seat in the front yard, Emma joins me looking worried.
"He didn't take responsibility for the baby," I whisper.
She looks shocked before getting up and going towards the house. I dash for her, pulling her back before she can get far. I plead with her to just leave him alone.
"He can't do this to you after what you have done for him," she yelled angrily. This was the reason I decided to have this conversation outside. I know Emma. She would force this baby onto Chance and that is the last thing I need right now.
"I can't force this on him, Emma," I say, looking down while running my fingers through my hair.
She sits back down angrily. "So, what are you going to do about all this?" she mutters, looking at her feet.
Tears run down my cheeks. I’ve been asking myself the same question. "I don't know. Maybe I can look for a job to support me and my baby," I say. "I heard my baby’s heartbeat for the first time." I laugh. "I felt hope, fulfilled like I could take on anything just to keep this baby happy."
"You know I am here for you, right?" she asks with a smile.
"I know," I say, grinning widely. I pulled her into a hug. "I love you."
"I love you too, babe," she replies before giving me a look. "You know what? Why don't you move into my family’s house?" I stare at her, shaking my head.
"It’s just for the time being. Before you sort everything out," she says, placing her hands on both of my shoulders.
"Emma, you know I can't do that. I can't be a burden to your family. This is my burden. Don't get your family involved in my troubles," I say, hoping she understands. I know she’s trying to help, but this won't do.
"But Shiloh…Okay, I will let it be," she sighs, defeated.
"Thanks, I can handle this," I reply with a smile. She smiles back before we both walk into the house to find the boys chatting and laughing.
"Shiloh, how you doing?" Louis asks, beaming widely and pulling me into a bear hug.
I smile, welcoming the hug. "Fine. I miss you so much, bestie."
"Hey, I thought I was your bestie," Damien says, looking hurt.
"A woman is allowed to have two besties," I say lightheartedly and pull away from the hug before embracing Damien.
"You guys are making me jealous," Emma says.
Everyone laughs except Chance, who just tapped on his phone, ignoring everyone.
"So, I am about to become a godfather?" Damien asks with a smile.
"Yeah," I say, taking a seat on the couch.
"Cool," he says smugly before staring at Chance with a frown. "Guy, I am about to break that phone," he threatens, glaring at Chance who seems unaffected by his stare.
Chance walks away ignoring him.
"He will come to his senses very soon," Louis says warily as he glances my way.
"I hope so," I say sadly before trudging towards my room with Emma walking behind me.
I shift the pillows and covers around on my bed just to distract myself.
"Are you okay?" Emma asks, sounding worried.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I say casually as I pull off the covers.
She sat on the little couch. "Is this the room he gave you?" she asks in disbelief. "This room was probably for the previous maid. Chance is an asshole," she says.
"Let it be, Emma," I mumble.
"I can't believe someone you love with all your heart just bailed on you all of a sudden," she whispers to herself.
"Maybe this is a lesson I should learn from," I exhale shakily. "I gave him the right to hurt me the moment I gave him my heart."
