Chapter 1: Dangerous encounters
Gang violence.
Something you see home and away. A natural phenomenon. Just something that is inevitable. From the most advanced countries to the underdeveloped youāll always see a gangster.
A group whose aim is completely unknown. Maybe just to cause trouble. Maybe they just like the fear and respect. Just to cause destruction, or to deal in drugs, human trafficking and many other things that gangs get into.
Itās just best to be on your own and be careful. Avoid them at all costs and stay safe. Do not become their victim.
The TV went off.
The woman sighed and stood up. She was currently the only one home and it was getting really late. Both her sons werenāt home yet. She wondered what they were doing.
āMum Iām home!ā her son yelled.
āYouāre backā she said relieved. She looked round. āWhereās Takashi?ā
āWhat?ā her son asked confused.
āYes himā.
āI thought he was here alreadyā he said wide eyes.
āNo he isnāt Lee. You two were meant to be togetherā.
āMum donāt worry. Iām sure heās fine. And you know how good looking Takashi is, so maybe heās at a girlās houseā.
VVVVV
It was already pouring and he didnāt bring an umbrella. He sighed as he tugged his jacket up to his neck and braced himself to face the cold rain. He exited the tattoo parlor.
Well at least it wasnāt so heavy.
Those two should be wondering where he was right now. He should have called, but it had slipped his mind. He was busy all that while, and the sound of the needle carving on his skin was still fresh in his mind. Heād be home soon, there was no need to worry about it.
Few minutes into his walk, the rain got harder and it was getting really difficult to walk, and also see. He didnāt want to accidentally fall into a sewer.
A limo pulled up, but didnāt stop. It kept moving along with him.
āWeirdā he commented.
The windows rolled down as he said that shocking him. He still continued walking.
āYouā a girl called, her head out of the window.
āLost or something?ā he replied.
āNoā she stated.
He continued walking. The girl was weird enough.
āWhat are you doing out late?ā she asked.
āI donāt need a rideā.
āI wasnāt offeringā she said. āGet inā.
āNoā he replied picking up the pace.
āCan you just do it? We just want to talkā.
āWe?ā Takashi thought. There was no way he was getting in with her or whoever was in.
āJust piss offā he brushed her off.
CLICK
He stood frozen under the rain. He knew what he heard. He had heard something like that, and there was no mistaking. He turned and she had a gun and was no longer smiling.
āIām done asking nicelyā she stated.
He gulped.
āGet inā she said motioning him closer with the weapon.
She drew back and the door opened and he got in reluctantly.
The girl waved at him and looked to her side. He followed her eyes, and he saw a man lounging against the soft cream seats.
He had a small smile on his lips.
āLook at you. Youāve gotten so bigā he said.
āExcuse me?ā he asked confused. āDo I know you?ā he asked.
āWell you are meant to, but you were so young so Iām not sure you remember meā.
āState your business with me!ā he snapped.
āHeyā the girl called from her side, and his eyes went to her gun and he composed himself. He really shouldnāt let his emotions get the better of him.
āWell I was a friend of your father. I used to come around all the timeā he said still with that stupid smile on his face.
āWell I donāt remember youā he said observing the car.
He was rich, and he had a body guard holding a gun, and he knew his name, and now they were talking about his father. Either this man was telling the truth orā¦.
āWell I doā. āTakashi Fujiwara. You father Dai Fujiwara, and your mother Chiharu Fujiwaraā.
āWell since youāre so well informed, youāll know that my parents are deadā.
āYes I know. So unfortunate, he was a really good friendā.
At least he was no longer smiling.
āWhy seek me out now?ā he asked.
āI need your helpā he stated.
āNoā he said.
āYou didnāt hear the offerā he chuckled.
āI donāt know you or what you do, but Iām sure I want no part of itā and his hands were already at the handle. The girl raising the gun didnāt scare him anymore. He wanted to be as far away as possible.
āNot even if you can find your parents murderers?ā he asked.
Takashiās hands stilled and he turned back to the man.
āHow do you know they were murdered?ā he asked.
āI know a lot of thingsā he replied relaxed.
āThen if my father was your friend, why didnāt you kill them yourself?!ā he demanded.
āI canāt just walk up and just shoot somebody. It doesnāt work that way at all. Itāll do more harm than good if I do itā.
āThen why me?ā he asked.
āI have a hunch that your hands are gifted?ā
āPardon?ā
āYouāre talented just like your fatherā he replied simply.
Takashi was silent.
āSo do you want to do it?ā he asked.
āLike I would do dirty workā he sneered.
āIāll give you time to think about itā he said throwing his head back.
āJunā he called.
Said girl tossed a card at him.
āWhen youāre ready to talkā the man said.
He looked at it and would have flung it back, but something made him hold onto it.
āGet outā the girl ordered.
He didnāt need to be told twice. He opened the door and was out and the car drove away.
Takashi sighed. They didnāt offer him a ride after forcing him into the car. Well it was good. Itād be good if they didnāt anyway. How would he explain a limo dropping him off?
VVVVV
āTakashi!ā
He knew he had been caught. He turned around to face her.
āMumā he greeted.
āAnd where were you?ā she asked concerned instead of angry.
āI went out and got caught under the rain. I had to take cover somewhereā he explained and hoped sheād buy it. She always did.
āArenāt you cold?ā she asked approaching him and placing a towel on his head.
āIām cold and tired. Iām going to retire earlyā he said already moving to his room.
āWithout dinner?ā she asked.
āI already ateā and he disappeared into his room down the hall.
She sighed and her other son was beside her.
āWhat do you thinkās wrong with him?ā she asked.
āHeās just having mood swingsā he replied.
āYouāre sure it isnāt depression?ā she asked just to be sure.
āYes Iām sure mumā.
VVVVV
Inside the safety of his room, he locked his door and peeled of his wet clothes tossing them in the hamper.
He walked into the bathroom. He closed it also and turned his back to the mirror and took a picture. The cobra, a huge contrast to his white skin. Ink black all curled up and baring his fangs.
He had always been fascinated with snakes and not just snakes. Any animal that was poisonous. Always wanted to know how their toxins worked on predator and prey. Others found it weird, but his father was proud of his curiosity.
Anything toxin, poison, venom he knew about it. Not only with the one that belonged to animals, but made his. He was taught by the very best.
His father, Dai Fujiwara.
He was young and his father never told him the details of his work. His mother worked with his father, but she stayed at home most of the time. They had their own laboratory down in the basement where they would make all sort of things.
He thought they were chemistry teachers or biologist, but now he wasnāt so sure.
The man he met today said he always came around, and that man screamed power. He wondered what they were involved in. Whatever it was, it was very dangerous.
He remembered looking out the window. Seeing his parents approach slowly, and then engines revving and screeching tires. And then there was the sound of a gun going off twice.
Running outside, there was no one there but his parents on the wet floor, their blood already making pools.
His father had tried to tell him something that day, but it wasnāt clear. He died before the paramedics arrived.
He turned off the hot water and stepped out.
After getting dressed in dry pajamas he made his way to his bed for a well-deserved rest, but he stepped on something.
Looking down it was a card.
A red card with a diamond.
The girl had given the card to him. āRed diamondā he murmured.
~āNot even if you can find your parents murderers?ā~ That question still remained with him.
āWas that what my father was trying to tell me?ā he thought. Did he want me to take revenge?
āNoā he shook his head lying back.
His father hated the idea of getting even so there was no way.
He pulled the covers over his head.
But he wasnāt his father.
He clutched the card tighter. There wasnāt any description or information on it, but he knew who would know.
VVVVV
When he was sure everyone was asleep, he walked out of his room and made his way to his brotherās room.
Lucky for him, it was unlocked.
Opening his door, he found his brother all sprawled out.
āLeeā he said standing beside his bed.
His brother was up in an instant.
āWhat is it?! Whatās happening?!ā he panicked.
āNothingā he said. āTell me where this isā he said dropping the card on his laps.
āTakashi, where did you get this?ā he asked giving the card a look.
āYou know the place or not?ā he asked.
āI do, but why do you want to know?ā
āDonāt ask me questions Lee and I wonāt ask you anyā he said folding his arms.
āDo you know what youāre getting into?ā he asked.
āNever mindā he said snatching the card. āIāll find it myselfā.
āYouāre worrying mum and now youāre worrying meā.
āShe should be worried about her sonā Takashi said and he was out the door.
Lee sighed and fell back onto his bed.
VVVVV
Getting back to his room, he got out his phone and typed in Red diamond. All the results that came out didnāt help him in any way.
Lee was so annoying. His mum might be oblivious with things that were happening, but he wasnāt her. He could see the crowd that Lee associated with and he knew that Lee knew everything that happened. He had a knack for getting information.
He looked at the card and taking a closer look, raising it high so the moon could lighten it, he could see numbers reflecting on the card.
He rolled his eyes that he didnāt think of it first. Now Lee would be breathing down his neck and asking questions.
Did he really want to do this?
His thumb was already typing the numbers
Yes he wanted this.
And he wasnāt going to let this opportunity pass him by.
