Chapter 39 BEING STUPID

Chapter 39 BEING STUPID
LIlian pov
“Close your mouth before you swallow a fly.”

I still stood stiff with Seraphine’s arm in my hand while she just stood stupid, my mouth would not be looking nice tight now with the way … I devoured her hands..
Slowly very slowly I turned my head.
Mia stood in the doorway, one eyebrow raised, backpack slung over her shoulder like she’d just walked into a cafeteria food fight instead of a blood-sharing incident.
“Oh,” she added thoughtfully. “So this is happening.”
I pulled back from Seraphine so fast I nearly snapped my own neck. My fangs retracted instantly, shame crashing into me harder than hunger ever had. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand like a kid caught stealing candy.
“Mia imm.” I started.
She held up a finger. “Before you say anything dramatic… I knew something was wrong okay .”
Seraphine leaned against the desk, arm still bleeding slightly, looking way too amused for someone who’d just been used as a vampire Capri Sun.
“Told you,” Seraphine said smugly.
Mia crossed her arms. “You’ve been snapping at everyone. You almost threw a chair at Jonah this morning.”
“He deserved it,” I muttered.
“And you stared at Lucy’s neck like it personally offended you.”
I groaned and dropped back into my chair, pressing my palms into my eyes. “Can we not recap my mental breakdown, please?”
Mia walked in and nudged the door shut behind her with her foot. She was way too calm that am starting to get worried.
She was meant to be screaming or panicking like a normal human would or perhaps even run but she still stood staring at me !.
That somehow made it worse.
“So,” she said lightly. “You wanna explain why you're being bloody, or should I keep pretending my best friend isn’t a vampire?”
I peeked through my fingers. “You’re taking this way too well.”
She shrugged. “Eh. I’ve had worse Mondays.”
Seraphine snorted. “Told you humans are more flexible than you think.”
“I am still here,” Mia snapped, then looked back at me. “And I’m not blind, Lilian. Your eyes only glow that much when you're hungry and it looked exactly the way it did when you first turned.”
“I have asthma,” I lied weakly.
“Yeah, your asthma bit a hole in my logic two years ago.”
I sighed and slid down in my seat. “Great. I finally lose control, and you walk in.”
She tilted her head. “Lose control?”
“Just a little,” I said. “Like… maybe almost drained someone.”
Mia blinked at what I said and Then said : “Okay. That part is concerning.”
Seraphine raised her arm. “I’m alive.”
Mia stared at the wound. “Barely, I knew you were one of them miss Vale, I just didn't listen to my guts… and Lilian see what you did to her hands.”
“Hey!” I snapped. “She volunteered!”
Mia looked at Seraphine and shook her head. “You’re insane.”
“Thank you.”
Mia turned back to me, her tone softer. “You’ve been hungry.”
It wasn’t a question, I nodded. “Since the weekend.”
“And you didn’t tell anyone.”
“I didn’t want to freak you out.”
She scoffed. “You biting people in class is worse.”
“Technically I didn’t bite a human.”
“Still murder-adjacent you know ?,” she muttered.
Silence hung between us,Then Mia sighed and rubbed her face. “Okay, Ground rules.”
“Excuse me?”
“If you’re gonna be a secret vampire menace, you don’t do it in classrooms,” she said firmly. “Bathrooms, alleyways, basements. Be classy, you were so obvious today.”
Seraphine burst out laughing while I stared. “You’re unbelievable.”
“You love me.”
I scoffed at her, “I tolerate you.”
She smirked. “Same…same”
My hunger stirred again not enough to lose control, but enough to remind me this wasn’t over.
Seraphine wiped her arm and straightened. “I should get going before students barge in and sees fang marks.”
Mia wrinkled her nose. “You smell like hospital and poor decisions like death ?.”
“See you later, blood bag,” I told her.
She flipped me off and walked out.
The door closed and I slumped in a chair.
Mia sat on the desk in front of me. “So. Vampire.”
I shut her a glare “Don’t say it like that.”
She smiled innocently and shrugged saying “Like what?”
“Like you’re ordering one off a menu.”
She softened. “You’re still you, okay.”
My throat tightened.
“And,” she added, “this explains a lot.”
“Such as?”
“Why you can now run very fast and your brain is kinda slow.”
“…you hate me too much.”
“i don't !.”
I sighed. “I didn’t want this.”
She studied me slowly, “But it happened.”
“Yeah.”
She hopped down. “We’ll manage.”
“We?”
She smiled. “You’re stuck with me, bloodsucker.”
I huffed a laugh and then I remembered that they went to a party during the weekend.

I wingled my brows at her and she gave me a are you okay look, “ so I just remembered you went to a party”

She scoffed, “ asking me like you didn't attend, now I see the reason why you didn't wanna come so you don't have the urge to feed on a throat”.

“Yeah whatever don't move the conversation…so … um who's the guy ?”

Mia groaned and sat up properly, “ just done random kid I even forgot his name ?”

I wanted to reply but she cut me off, “ and you left the party quiet early 'cause Jonah was being unnecessarily stupid when you left “

“ What do you mean he was being unnecessarily stupid !”

She raised her hands up, “ when he ask, I didn't tell you okay but he kind of toasted Lucy… and she said she wasn't ready for a relationship and he out of embarrassment 'cause ladies don't tell him no…drank himself to a stupor”

I Burst out laughing, “ jeez that would be so embarrassing… I need to go talk to him though” with that I stood up.

“ Yeah and Lilian if anything goes wrong let me know okay am your friend you know…”

I nodded at her with a smile and said, “ same” then I opened the door and lwft the classroom Jonah better be outside or this embarrassment would look crucial.

I walked out and saw him crounched at one corner… and I rushed to tease him for what mia told me earlier but when I got closer, he looked at me weakly.

“ Hey what's wrong…”

He groaned, “ I think I have stomach ache” I rolled my eyes at his childishness.

Ugh am still gonna try my luck next time though… I said with am Internal eye roll
