Chapter 13 The Book of the Pure
"Damn it!" I hear Conrad mutter softly.
Conrad abruptly moves away from me, quickly pulling up his pants.
"Damn it, Maya. Don't do that again." He pleads, shaking his head, breathless.
"You don't like it?" I ask, lowering my head, feeling embarrassed.
Conrad comes towards me, holds my chin and lifts my face.
"I like it too much, and that's why you can't do it." He explains, leaving me confused.
"You did it to me." I argue, remembering well what he did to me last time.
"This is different. I'm not strong, Maya. If it were up to me, my mark would already be on you." He says, touching my neck, right where it would be his.
"We don't need to wait." I say, pulling him closer, feeling his erection again. "I'm your mate, Conrad. I'm yours and you're mine. Your mark should already be on me." He spoke almost pleadingly.
His resistance was starting to terrify me. Was he looking for a way out? Was he unsure of his decision? Had he finally realized how risky it was?
His hands gently touched my face, caressing my cheek. But I still stared at him anxiously, knowing he could see the bad feeling I was experiencing.
"I'll explain how the Pure Ones work, our traditions and duties," Conrad said, extending his hand to me.
Even though I was reluctant, I accepted. I got down from the table and Conrad guided me to a camouflaged door at the far end of the room. He opened it and let me in first. The place was lit by candlelight, demonstrating its divinity. He took off his shoes and I quickly did the same.
The entrance was narrow, all made of stone. We descended the stairs slowly, and high on the walls, several torches illuminated the rooms. We arrived at a large space. Countless walls filled with books of all sizes and colors. Books made by fairies, vampires, and even gods. Everything sacred was present in that place.
Conrad returns with a book in his hands, placing it on the study table. He calls me to stand beside him, and I walk quickly. "The Pure Ones." That was the title of the book. Although they are a kind of werewolf, they are superior to all others.
1\. The Pure Ones have size and strength superior to a normal wolf.
2\. Their pure blood has the power to cure curses and recreate new species of wolves, perhaps even stronger than themselves.
3\. Their power was granted directly from the gods of strength, wisdom, and power. What has been given can be taken away.
4\. Do everything for the glory of the species, for power, and for peace.
5\. Follow what has been written before, for your wisdom.
"Follow what has been written before." I repeat that phrase, becoming thoughtful. "Is this the book of laws of the Pure Ones?"
"The pure are not submissive, not even to the gods. It's more like an instruction manual. Something that helps maintain peace. And you know, older people like old things." Conrad explains jokingly, and I force a smile. "Don't worry about it! I don't care about those things, but most people do. I think it's important that we strive to follow at least some of these instructions." He says, putting on his glasses and leafing through the book.
For a moment, I forget the serious situation and stare at his face. The glasses fit his face perfectly, making him even more cultured and charming. By God, Conrad looked incredibly hot.
"What's wrong?" Conrad stares at me, confused, noticing my restlessness.
"Nothing, I'm just processing everything," I lie, taking my eyes off my tempting companion.
I return to those old words, feeling the weight of that old and wise book. A species apart, as if they were much more than wolves. A gift given by several gods, but which still exempts them from debts to them.
Despite being a privilege, they also had their duties. It was a gift that could be lost. I understood the queen now. Imagine putting at risk an entire superior species that governed and maintained peace throughout the kingdom.
Pure.
Pure.
Pure.
That word echoed in my mind. My blood was tainted, of that I was certain. How were we chosen to be mates?
"That's the whole tradition we must follow." Conrad hands me the book. I take it and begin to read. Surprisingly, the entire book is handwritten, with a few small drawings.
1\. Luna's Recognition Feast
A feast not only for the pack, but for all the magical beings of the kingdom. Everyone must come and meet the new foundation of the kingdom. Diamond, gold, and silver must be given as gifts to the queen. Everyone must kiss her and bless the bond that will govern the king. The queen must show interest in her people, demonstrating her beautiful Luna qualities.
"I'm not very good with people," I confess, letting out a tired sigh. "I never needed to be; normally everyone ignored me."
Conrad touches my face affectionately, and I place my hand on top of his, accepting the comfort.
"You are perfect, Maya! Completely perfect! Everyone will adore you." He says it and kisses my cheek gently.
I still sigh.
"I just can't understand how I'm your mate," I confess, becoming thoughtful. "I'm not worthy of being a Luna of the Pack, much less the queen of this kingdom," I say, letting out what was weighing on my thoughts.
"Don't say that, my love! You were the best thing that ever happened to me. Knowing of your existence is what kept me going all these years. You have no idea how long I waited for you. And I would wait another million years. My whole body, my desires and needs, belong to you!"
His lips come towards mine, but I stop him from continuing. I feel a tear run down my face, completely touched by each of his sweet words.
"I love you! I love you now and I will love you forever!" I say, letting out the feeling that was fighting to escape.
I see his smile widen and now I accept his lips, which come towards me with thirst.
