Chapter 56 Without Beth

Chapter 56 Without Beth
I roll over, trying to escape the light assaulting my eyes. I push my face into the pillow. I breathe in deeply to offset the nausea attacking my stomach. My heart skips a beat when my brain registers the scent on the pillow. My eyes open, being obscured by the pillow. I sniff in again, trying to place the scent.

It’s Alec’s smell. I breathe a sigh of relief, feeling the fear leave my body immediately. I’m in Alec’s bed.

How’d I even end up here? I roll onto my back, shutting my eyes again at the sun entering the room through the windows.

I rake my brain trying to think through everything that happened last night. I remember taking the drink from Cassie. I remember dancing. But then my memory becomes hazy.

I remember Beth making out with a guy. I remember Cassie being upset at how drunk I was. I remember Cassie winning beer pong. I remember Beth throwing up in the bushes of their house while I lay on the ground looking at the stars.

But I don’t remember anything else. My memory is made up of these blips of the night. Obviously, we made it back okay, considering I’m in Alec’s bed in his shirt and shorts.

I finally open my eyes, just allowing the headache that pierces my mind. I sit up, looking around the room. My jeans and shirt from last night are scattered on the floor. I don’t see Beth making me get up faster than I should have.

My head spins like I’m stuck on a bad fair ride, making the nausea return full force. I swallow my spit; the last thing I’m going to do today is vomit.

I take careful steps out of the room and down the stairs. I can smell Alec’s delicious cooking wafting from the kitchen. The house is quiet, save for the soft sounds of him cooking. Beth is on the couch, passed out completely. We definitely got a bit too drunk last night.

“Hey.” Alec greets me as I walk into the kitchen.

“Hey.” My voice is groggy, betraying how sick I feel.

“Here, drink this.” He passes me a cup of cold water and some ibuprofen.

“You were very drunk last night. Cassie called me to help you get to bed while she dealt with Beth.”

“I’m never drinking with her again. She made the drinks just straight alcohol.” I complain, trying not to think too much of the alcohol. Otherwise, it makes my stomach twist again.

He chuckles, flipping a pancake. “It was fun to try and get you into bed. You thought that when I took off your clothes, we were going to have sex. You were quite sad when I turned you down.”

I groan, putting my head on the island. “I’m sorry for anything I said or did. I don’t remember even getting here.”

“I don’t care babe, I’m just glad you made it home safely.”

“Yeah, good thing Cassie didn’t drink.” My statement seems to remind me of my earlier question.

“Can you guys get drunk?” My voice is lower, trying to ensure Beth isn’t listening.

“It’s really hard and takes an ungodly amount of alcohol, but we can get drunk.”

“So that's why she didn’t want to drink?”

He shrugs, flipping another pancake. “Yeah, and also the fact that there is a greater risk of accidentally turning into a wolf when not in your fully coherent mind.” Makes complete sense.

We spend the rest of the morning making and eating breakfast, waking Beth, and getting ourselves presentable enough to go back to camp. Cassie swore she would never babysit us again. Apparently, we almost killed were worse than literally toddlers to take care of. It was a miracle she even got us here in one piece. It was funny to hear her recall her version of the night before getting ready for camp.

After we both showered and put on our clothes from last night, we got ready to leave. Although we really shouldn’t stay out this late into the morning, we’re not really worried anymore, considering no one in our cabin will rat again. Even Lexie and Kiersten have snuck out and stayed somewhere overnight, so I guess it’s not a rare thing for this camp.

Right when we were saying our goodbyes, Kyson and Noah came through the front door. It’s like life is breathed back into Beth’s soul when she sees both of them. Of course, now that I know her type, I see how she immediately zeros in on Kyson. A literal cocky meathead. And Kyson immediately locks onto her, his stupid smirk on his face.

“Well, who do we have here?”

“Beth, and who are you?” She looks him up and down with her own smirk.

“Kyson. I didn’t know Anna’s friend was so attractive.”

I roll my eyes, looking at Alec with a look screaming to stop his friend. The last thing I need is Beth getting involved with Kyson, who is literally a fuckboy.

“Leave her alone, Kyson.” Alec steps in, listening to me.

“Oh come on, she’s a big girl.”

“Either way, we have to go.”

Beth looks at me, annoyed, but still follows me out the door and away from Kyson.

“Why can’t I talk with him? He’s hot.” She pouts on our walk back to camp.

“He’s a player, I don’t want him to hurt you.”

“Is this from Alec?”

“That he’s a player? Yes. He and Noah constantly run through girls.”

She sighs, kicking the dirt below us. “Why are all the hot ones such pricks?”

“I’m sorry. I can ask Alec if Kyson wants to date you seriously, but if he’s just playing, it’s not worth your time.”

“Yeah, you’re right, I said I wanted to find my soulmate, not a fuck buddy.”

“Do you remember the guy you made out with last night?”

“Honestly, no. I mean a little, but no.” She laughs.

“You and alcohol are a dangerous mix, Bethy.”

She gives me a cheeky grin. “You loved it, don’t lie.”

“Fine, I had fun, but we are never getting that drunk again.”

“Fine, I promise we won’t get that drunk again, at least not for a while.” She walks ahead of me, laughing.

Oh, how boring my summer would be without Beth.
