Chapter 57: Chapter LVII
Maria
With so many things to juggle, it happened that I got sick. To make matters worse, I can't properly take care of my daughter, so Rosa has been helping me a lot these days. Besides her, Andressa and even Alex have been taking care of me, at least until I feel better.
I had gone to the doctor to find out what was wrong, and it turned out to be all due to fatigue. To be honest, I had been feeling tired in these past few days, but I couldn't stop, especially as each passing second seems to tighten my schedule, and I try to find ways to manage what I need to handle.
Alex continued his studies, and Rosa was looking to invest more in her fortune-telling and clairvoyant services. I didn't know Rosa was a clairvoyant, but she claims she can predict the future, albeit through a crystal ball.
A year ago, Rosa had been developing this ability, and it seems to be working out now. As for me, I had to take a break from work. Now, I was investing my time in painting. I discovered this talent I had, and I didn't even know it.
The next day, I woke up to Rosa delivering a tray with my breakfast. She made toast with butter, some oatmeal cookies, and another cup of coffee with milk.
"How are you feeling?" Rosa asked.
"To be honest, I have a fever," I replied.
"Really? Let me check." Rosa took a thermometer from her pocket and placed it in my mouth. After five minutes, the thermometer beeped, and Rosa took it out, checking the temperature. She seemed impressed, and it was evident what she was going to say.
"Oh my, Maria, you have a forty-degree fever," Rosa said, sounding concerned. "Before having breakfast, you'll take a warm bath. Come on, I'll heat the water for you."
I did as she said, and I was taking a bath. I listened to Rosa talking to Alex while I bathed. I could hear what they were saying, and at a certain moment, Alex said, "If anything, I'll take her to the doctor again."
To be honest, I don't think it's a good idea to go to the doctor now. I know I'll be fine, but if they think it would be easier for me to get better that way, then I'll do what they want.
After I finished my bath, I had my breakfast and sat on the bed. Rosa appeared suddenly and asked, "Are you okay?" I noticed she was concerned about my situation, and I tried to find a way to reassure her and make her understand that I'll be fine.
"I'm better," I replied with my best smile. Rosa placed her hand on my forehead and said, "Well, at least the fever has eased for now. You'll be fine."
"Of course, I will," I replied with another smile, and Rosa seemed more confident in my recovery.
"Well, I'll cook a bit. If you need anything, you can call me."
"Sure thing," I replied with another smile. It seems to have worked now. Rosa seemed more at ease, and that was good.
After having my breakfast, I decided to sleep a bit more. However, I heard the sound of my daughter crying, but at the same time, I heard Rosa's bare feet going to where Soraia was. I heard her singing to her and saying that everything was okay. Soraia will be so humble in the future. I'm sure of that because, in some way, she reminds me a lot of myself in the past when I was a child.
Later, at lunchtime, Rosa gave me rice, beans, some vegetables, and a chicken steak. It was a small portion, so it was fine. For a drink, she gave me jelly. Rosa said that jelly is good when we're sick, so I decided not to contradict her.
"Rosa."
"What is it?" she asked before leaving.
"Do you think Soraia will have the ability to turn into a werewolf?"
She looked at me as if she were thinking and replied, "It's quite likely to happen, especially since she has your blood and Alex's, but I also believe it won't happen. Anyway, I think there's a possibility, just as there isn't."
"Alex's family is known for having this ability to turn into werewolves," I argued.
Rosa simply nodded, as if agreeing with what I said.
"Yes, you're right, and it was well remembered. To be honest, I had forgotten about that part."
I just nodded. Rosa asked, "And do you think Soraia has this ability to turn into a werewolf?"
"I believe she does, but it's hard to say for sure. I'm thinking of taking her for some medical tests to see how her body behaves." I started to show fear. "I'm afraid something might happen to her, not to mention that she might also face prejudice, I don't know."
Rosa looked at me and then replied, crossing her arms, "I think she won't suffer. Look at Alex. He went through the same thing and is now attending college. He doesn't let it bother him; on the contrary, he stands firm. I confess I admire him for that."
I looked at Rosa as I absorbed everything she said and just nodded in response.
Alex also had to face this werewolf situation. In the end, he regained control, and now everything is fine; he is in charge, and so be it.
"Well, I'm going now. If you need anything, you can call me, Maria," Rosa said.
"Okay," I replied before she left, and then I started to eat.
