Chapter 16 Make Him Unable to Resist You

Chapter 16 Make Him Unable to Resist You

Winona wasn't still hung up on that jerk Zachary, but she couldn't help feeling a bit down about today's events. No matter how much she planned, she didn't see Lydia's accident coming. She sighed. "We didn't get divorced."

Rebecca's eyes went wide. "What? Didn't you guys agree to split up yesterday? What happened? Did Zachary back out?"

Winona shook her head, opened the car door, and got in. "No, it's complicated. Let's go; I'll fill you in on the way."

By the time they reached the Night Club, Winona had finished telling Rebecca about the day's drama. When Rebecca heard about the red marks on Zachary's neck, she clenched her teeth in solidarity. "Ugh, that bastard is disgusting. You just set the divorce date yesterday, and he couldn't wait to go on a date last night. Makes me wanna puke."

Winona chuckled. "It's not that bad. He really likes Fiona. I can't say much about it, right? I just don't get it—if he loves her so much, why is he dragging his feet about divorcing me?"

Rebecca, always the one to back Winona's divorce, waved her fist. "Why divorce? You should drag it out with Zachary, make them sneak around forever, never able to be together openly, and let them face public shame."

Winona found a seat and started eating, having been hungry all day. "Even if he doesn't want a divorce now, we have an agreement. It expires in three months. By then, even if I don't want to divorce, I have to."

Rebecca rested her chin on her hand, thinking. "Right, doesn't your mother-in-law like you a lot? Complain to her about all the crap Zachary's put you through and let her give him hell."

Winona almost spat out her food, laughing and crying. "And then?"

Rebecca said, "And then, you keep pushing for the divorce while occasionally showing your vulnerable side to make him pity you. Men are like that—the more you ignore them, the more they come to you. If you're too good to them, they think you're not worth it. Learn from Fiona's two-faced act, and you'll have Zachary wrapped around your finger."

Winona laughed heartily, her earlier gloom completely gone. "It's a pity you don't write novels."

Rebecca scratched her head and smiled, and just then, the pre-arranged bar gigolo walked in. Rebecca and Winona dropped the topic.

What they didn't know was that outside the door, Samuel had heard every word of their conversation. Seeing the bar gigolo go in, Samuel called Zachary. "Guess who I just saw at the Night Club?"

Zachary wasn't in the mood for games. "If there's nothing, I'm hanging up."

"Wait, you really have no sense of humor." Samuel muttered, "I just saw your wife at the Night Club, plotting with her friend on how to manipulate you, playing hard to get to make you love her to death, and planning to complain to your mom to have her break your legs."

Feeling pretty pleased with himself, Samuel reported Winona's room number and hung up.

Zachary sat in the car, staring at the phone after Samuel hung up, not saying a word.

Next to him, Fiona, who had been crying, cautiously asked, "What's wrong, Zachary? Is it about Lydia again?"

She had found out about Lydia's hospitalization from a nurse she knew and had bought gifts to visit her. But when Lydia saw her, she got so agitated that she had Fiona and her gifts thrown out. If Zachary hadn't come, she didn't know how much more embarrassed she would have been.

Fiona lowered her head, a flash of resentment in her eyes. She thought, that wretch Lydia, so sick but still not dead. But at least tonight, she managed to get Zachary to take her home, so it wasn't a total loss.

Zachary didn't answer Fiona's question, lighting a cigarette. "Don't provoke her anymore."

Fiona thought he meant Lydia. "I'm sorry, Zachary. I just heard from my friend that Lydia was sick and wanted to visit her. I won't disturb her again."

"I mean Winona. Don't provoke her anymore." Zachary interrupted her, sounding a bit impatient.

Fiona didn't expect Zachary to bring up old issues at this moment, even threatening her because of Winona. She was so angry her lips trembled, but she still maintained a look of grievance. "I didn't, Zachary. I just greeted her. I didn't expect her to get so agitated at the mention of Matthew."

Zachary's expression was hard to see through the smoke. "I've told you many times; don't show up in front of Winona."

Fiona's eyes reddened. "I didn't! I just mentioned a name, and she hit me. Isn't she the one in the wrong? You don't make her apologize, and you warn me instead."

Zachary took a deep breath. "She was wrong to hit you. I'll compensate you on her behalf."

Fiona sneered. "Compensate? Do you love her that much? You are even willing to compensateme for her. Fine, divorce her and be with me. After all, to outsiders, I'm your first love, right?"

Zachary didn't respond, extinguishing the cigarette. His long fingers pressed the butt into the ashtray until it was crushed beyond recognition. "Don't forget how you got your lead dancer position."

A simple sentence made Fiona's heart race. How could she forget? Zachary never liked her, and never even crossed the line with her. It was she who kept clinging to him.

And her current dance troupe was one of the top three in the world. To get the lead dancer position, she needed not only skill but also a strong background. She shed a couple of tears and left the car without a word.

Half an hour later, Zachary's car appeared at the Night Club's entrance.

Following Samuel's directions, he found the room. Inside, Rebecca's shouting was deafening. "These guys won't do. Bring more! Good-looking ones. My friend is newly single today. We have money, just get the best."

Rebecca's voice was accompanied by several men in deep V-neck shirts being kicked out of the room. They had different expressions but were all handsome.

From Zachary's angle, Winona was lying on the sofa, her face flushed and eyes hazy from drinking too much. Next to her, a shirtless bar gigolo was holding a glass of wine, about to feed it to her lips.
