Chapter 210
The car quickly stopped in front of the hospital.
The two got out and went straight through the VIP entrance to the upper floor.
Brian was lying in the hospital room, his aged body covered with tubes.
Looking at him, Victoria thought of her own mother, and her heart felt heavy.
Fortunately, good news had come from back home - her mother's condition was improving.
Aiden was thinking about the same things, his expression somewhat unpleasant. The biggest problem between him and Victoria was her mother.
He had already found that famous doctor. Once today's matters were settled, he needed to talk things through with Victoria.
"I'm going in now."
Victoria's voice interrupted Aiden's thoughts.
She walked away from the door and came to Brian's bedside.
Seeing Victoria enter, a glimmer of light appeared in his cloudy eyes. "Ms. Spencer, please sit down. My butler told me you came to see me while I was unconscious. I'm sorry, but to prevent anyone with bad intentions from causing trouble, no one was allowed in while I was out."
As soon as he finished speaking, he started coughing violently. Victoria quickly handed him a glass of warm water.
"Brian, how did you fall down the stairs?"
Brian's eyes grew deep, and recalling the event seemed to bring him some pain. "When I went upstairs to find my old friend, I saw my useless brother going in to plot with some others. I found it strange, so I listened outside the door."
At this point, Brian started coughing violently again, clearly still upset by what he'd witnessed. "I was planning to come tell you right after I finished listening, but my friend happened to see me and called out my name loudly."
Victoria could guess what happened next.
The people plotting inside the room knew Brian was eavesdropping outside, so they set up this incident.
Victoria fell silent, then after thinking for a moment continued, "So your friend had no idea what was going on? He really just called your name by accident?"
Brian waved his hand. "He and I have been friends for over 30 years. It shouldn't have been intentional."
Victoria couldn't get any other useful information from him, so she stood up and straightened her clothes.
"Anyway, thank you for what happened at yesterday's party. If you hadn't been trying to help me, you wouldn't have fallen down the stairs."
Brian already knew what Victoria had done. He shook his head and sighed, his eyes full of admiration.
"In the end, I still couldn't help you. You're too stubborn."
"It's not that I won't back down. If there's a first time, there'll be a second. I can avoid it once, but not twice. Brian, I need to grow stronger."
Brian looked at her with even more intensity. "You're right. I need to rest now. If you're free tomorrow, go back to the Carr Manor and let my grandson and Hannah out."
Victoria looked puzzled. "Is it appropriate for me to do that? If your grandson tries to hit me, I'm going to hit back."
Brian had lost hope in this grandson anyway. After all, the embryo abroad had been successfully implanted. As long as it developed normally, he'd have a new grandson in 9 months.
"Do whatever you want, just don't kill him."
Victoria didn't ask more questions. She stood up, gave a few more words of advice, and left.
Brian watched her departing figure and sighed, "The business world really does belong to young people now. Us old folks... can't keep up anymore."
Victoria had just opened the door when she saw Aiden sitting in a chair nearby.
Aiden's hands hung naturally at his sides, his eyes closed, his curled lashes trembling slightly - he had fallen asleep.
Victoria glanced at him, noticing his deep dark circles, his uncombed hair, and a few pimples that had appeared on his usually refined face. His tie hung loosely, though at least his clothes were brightly colored.
Probably because Aiden was so good-looking, he somehow managed to pull off a casual, lazy style.
Victoria waved her hand in front of his eyes, but the man didn't move at all.
She really wanted to reach out and wake him up when a very soft voice came from behind her, "Shh, don't wake him."
Victoria turned around, and the person behind her seemed to deliberately take a step forward.
Victoria bumped right into his arms.
Blake's lips curved up wildly, and there was even a hint of secret pleasure in his eyes.
Aiden was right beside them, and he was holding Victoria right in front of him.
Victoria pulled away from him.
Blake pointed toward the end of the hallway, mouthing the words, "Let's talk over there."
Victoria followed behind him step by step.
At the end of the hallway, she could only see Aiden from a distance, still resting in his seat.
Victoria's voice carried a note of caution. "What are you doing here? What's your relationship with Aiden? Who sent you?"
Blake clutched his chest with a wounded expression. "Ms. Spencer, we run into each other at the hospital, and instead of asking why I'm hurt, you start with accusations?"
"Stop pretending." Victoria said irritably, glancing at him briefly before quickly looking away. She only relaxed a bit when she noticed the surveillance camera overhead.
Blake spread his hands, a bit more serious showing in his eyes. "He and I are friends, though he might not see it that way. I really did run into you by accident at the hospital today. As for why I called you over just now, it's because I know that for the past three days, he hasn't had a good night's sleep. At first, he was looking up information for you, then on the night of the party, he was handling company business while keeping an eye on what you were doing."
Blake's tone carried some complaint. "He's really an idiot. As soon as he finished his own business, he couldn't wait to drive over to find you, afraid you'd be isolated and helpless here."
Victoria remained silent, not responding, just keeping an eye on the man over there.
After a couple of minutes, that tiny bit of emotion in Victoria's eyes vanished like smoke, and her voice turned cold again.
"I don't need him to keep me company, and I don't need him being presumptuous. I can handle things myself. Blake, take him back to rest."
Although Victoria was somewhat touched by his actions, these people seemed to be using Aiden's behavior to pressure her, which was very annoying.
"You think I don't want to?" Blake laughed coldly, looking at Victoria with a mocking smile. "He's completely love-brained. He can only fall asleep watching over you. What can we do about it! Don't tell me you really don't know that Aiden drives to your villa every night before he can sleep?"
Images from the past few days flashed quickly through Victoria's mind. Aiden really did seem to drive to the villa around 10 PM every night and wait there, then leave around 8 AM.
Blake's words were like knives.
"Go do what you need to do, Ms. Spencer. You really are cold-hearted, turning a blind eye to other people's efforts."
Victoria didn't argue with him. She had her own business to attend to today.
She went to the next hospital room.
Martin had checked in using a heart condition as an excuse.
They had been pen pals for over a year. Victoria wanted to see what he would actually say.
