Chapter 26: "Why Now?"

Chapter 26: "Why Now?"
Draven:

Growling out as the bones in my hands, popped and cracked under their death grips.

“Okay, both are ready to push.” Viv looked up with bright eyes as Jaxon rushed in, sliding over on a medical stool with a determined expression.

Sanitizing his hands in motion, stopping abruptly between Lana’s knees fighting Falkor from ripping his head off as he looked at Lana with bright eyes, smiling with a firm nod.

“Okay, Ladies. On three “push” …. 3.. 2.. 1.. PUSH!” Jaxon couched firmly, watching the heart monitors as my hands became numb under the intensity of the crippling grips from my two girls.

Exhaling a low grumble as they stopped to breathe, wiggling my fingers to make sure they were still attached as Falkor healed me in sync with the pushes.

“One More!” Jaxon proudly hooted from between Lana’s legs, closing my eyes as my head dropped back in concentration as two wailing cries filled the chaotic room.

Snapping my eyes down, watching as the nurses quickly cleaned and measured each boy with bright smiles, kissing both girls on the cheeks tasting the salty tang of their sweat, jump starting the blood flow to my interrupted erection earlier. Adjusting quickly, before anyone could make a comment at my expense.

“Draven.” Nan whispered softly as her eyes filled with tears, wiping them away quickly with gentle kisses.

“Yeah, beautiful.” Sweeping away a few strands of hair that stuck to her sweaty forehead, noticing she looked a little pale.

“Dakari.” Her voice cracked against my ear as the monitors began to ring and beep wildly, watching her vitals flatline as the room filled with nurses rushing around.
Her body dropped back to the bed like a limp ragdoll as Jaxon motioned me away.

Viv assisted wheeling the babies away as Lana sobbed uncontrollably, rushing over to her as we watched Jaxon and Viv work to bring her back. Shocking her, injecting adrenaline, CPR, they worked like blurs of colors stuck in slow motion.

Twenty minutes passed according to the wall clock above the viewing window, shielded off to the silent chaos in the waiting room with the muted gray blinds.

Hugging Lana’s head into my chest as we both felt the break in our bond, roaring out in pain as the steady buzzing drowned the room in a horrific nightmare as time seemed to have stopped.

“NO!” Lana screamed out between sobs as her hands gripped to my shirt, shredding away in pieces as her claws dug violently into my back.

Holding the pain inside, becoming a shell as everything seemed to fade away.

“MUM!” Lena rushed in frantically as Drogo wrapped his arms around her waist before she collapsed onto the floor in raging tears, clawing at Drogo’s hold as he tried to calm her.

“I’m so sorry.” Viv whispered out as Jaxon silenced the monitors, cleaning her up enough to pull a sheet over her peaceful pose, leaving her shoulders and head exposed as everyone cleared the room.

Falkor sobbed from the shadows, feeling my body go numb except for the stabbing ache that pulled and twisted at my heart. Lana and Lena rushed to her, crawling into bed sobbing, kissing her face as Drogo walked over, sitting down next to me on the bed with a distressed expression.

“She didn’t get to hold him.” Whispering out as the world cracked to pieces around me, feeling the turmoil swirl within my heart as Lana and Lena mourned openly.

Drogo held firmly to my shoulder, staring at my trembling hands as soft knocking echoed hauntingly, tearing up as a heart broken Onyx walked in with the boys. Sobbing out the final thread shredding under the painful pressure, collapsing into Drogo’s firm hug as the boys placed their hands on my back.

“Let it out. You deserve that much.” Drogo spoke calmly, watching Onyx wipe away her tears, placing her hands over Lana and Lena as a soft purple glow radiated from her palms, slowly easing them into a silent sleep.

She stood for a few seconds, fighting the trembling lip that signaled her internal battle with her emotions that were being manipulated and intensified by her pregnancy. A sense of tranquility slowly filling my heart as her golden starburst eyes gleamed gently under the soft lights.

“We’ll put them in the same room. Take your time Pap.” Onyx cupped my cheek softly, feeling Falkor calm down enough to catch my breath, pulling her into my embrace as she sobbed into my shoulder.

“Thank you.” Linking her as her sobs grew heavier, soaking my shoulder as her arms clenched tightly around my neck.

Standing slowly, lifting her up gently as Birgir walked around the bed, sliding her from my arms as her painful sorrow filled our links with a tremendous guilt, looking between us with puzzled expressions.

“You have nothing to feel guilty about sweetheart. Nuwa called her home for a reason.” Kissing her forehead as she shook her head in denial against Birgir’s chest, looking up with red puffy eyes and chapped cheeks.

“She knew.” Her voice cracked harder, tugging at the flimsy thread that barely held my heart together as images of a beautiful woman flashed through out link, stepping back in shock as Nan’s smiling face looked back at me with a strange feeling of calmness.

“Dakari.” Speaking her last words as the room filled with a soft glowing light, feeling the sorrowful pain rescind into happiness and joy, knowing her final blessing was having the child she always wanted in life.

“It means “rejoice”.” Viv spoke softly as she held the door open for RW and Amelia, while they rolled in a bed, shifting Lana and Lena over hugging tightly against one another as the pain slowly faded from their tear-stricken faces.

Face palming remembering our other son, looking up to the ceiling in a silent curse as Viv smiled softly at my absent mindedness.

“Kaami.” Remembering the odd name Lana spoke to her belly, whenever she soothed the rampaging turbulence he created in the middle of night.

“Perfect. Dakari and Kaami Blackfang.” Davyn patted my shoulder with a warm smile, pulling him in for a hug as Mikkel and Birgir smiled with a firm head nod.

“Take all the time you need. We’ll take her back to our room for now.” Birgir nudged Onyx’s head as she blew me a soft kiss, catching it as they exited the room leaving me with my treacherous thoughts.

“Why do we feel calm?” Falkor asked in a baffled voice, sitting down with a hollow thud as his spiked tail swooshed and swayed through the darkness.

“Me.” A celestial voice spoke from nowhere, turning around to the beautiful woman I saw through mine and Onyx’s link, knowing I was looking at Nuwa the Goddess of Creation.

She sat on the windowsill with her legs crossed gracefully under the flowing mint chiffon gown, leaning gently on her palms as her glowing frosty green eyes looked at me with a soul healing smile.

“Nuwa.” Bowing to a knee as Falkor puffed out his chest, sitting tall and proud to be graced with the presence of the Goddess.

“Stand Draven Blackfang, Grand Royal Elder to the Throne.” Her voice spoke majestically, standing with a strange revitalization swirling deeply through my veins.

“Nailana Moonfang has blessed you with a special gift. Her final wish before she returned to my side.” Her words plucked at each fiber of my being, knowing Nuwa gifted us with a healthy baby boy that would grow-up in this New World created by Onyx and the boys.

“Why now?” Feeling a strange sense of regret, pulling at my heart as she slid down from the windowsill with a quick sweep of her hands to smooth out her flowing gown that seemed out of place for her temperament.

“Kano killed her dragon, but her body had enough strength to carry the child full-term with a watchful eye of course.” She smiled softly as her hand cupped Nan’s stilled face, placing a gentle a kiss to her forehead sliding the sheet over her body as a soft glowing light emitted from under the thin material.

“Plant a Fuchsia Dark Eyes at the Northern most point of the Realm in her memory, and watch it grow and flourish with your sons and family.” Her words spoke softly as the sheet floated down flat against the bed as Nan’s body drifted away in a soft glowing mist.

Blinking away the strange light that consumed the room as Nuwa drifted away with the dissipating light.

“Thank you.” Whispering out as my exhausted body collapsed to the empty bed, drifting away with the peaceful silence as the darkness slowly washed over my body.

“She’s at peace.” Falkor hummed softly from the shadows as the World pulled away in layers, leaving only a light heart filled with loving anticipation.
