Chapter 1040: What Are You Trying to Do?
Timothy was setting down the tray when he heard those words and froze.
He still looked calm and collected on the surface, but his ears turned bright red, and the cold aura around him gradually faded.
He gently placed the cup down, handed over the hot water bottle, and changed the subject, asking, "What do you want for dinner tonight? How about some spaghetti?"
Mary reached out her bare arm to take the hot water bottle, blinked, and asked, "Can we add a fried chicken leg?"
"Sure thing."
Timothy didn't say anything more and walked out, closing the door softly behind him.
It wasn't until he was alone in the kitchen that he let out a sigh of relief.
Just now, hearing Mary's explanation, he realized he had misunderstood the situation.
But, thinking back, he secretly rejoiced over the misunderstanding.
Otherwise, he would never have seen this side of Mary.
Her awkward response, innocent shyness, and that captivating figure.
Thinking about it made Timothy's throat tighten, and a rush of heat surged to his head.
"I also want a fried egg, is that okay?"
Mary suddenly appeared at the door while Timothy was chopping vegetables, lost in thought.
Seeing Timothy seriously cooking, she felt a warm sensation in her heart.
"Sure, you should go back to bed and wait."
After saying that, he realized the ambiguity in his words and quickly added, "Standing here, you'll catch a cold and your stomach will hurt again."
"Okay."
Mary's heart skipped a beat, and she felt that Timothy, cooking in the kitchen and chatting, looked even more handsome than when he wore his doctor's uniform.
She returned to her room, scrolled through her phone for a while, but couldn't help thinking about the earlier events with Timothy.
Finally, she threw her phone aside and buried herself under the covers.
But sleep was impossible. As soon as she closed her eyes, she felt Timothy beside her, his warm breath enveloping her, along with the scent of his cologne.
She didn't know how much time had passed when Timothy knocked on the door again.
This time, he brought in a small table.
Carefully setting it up by the bed, he brought over spaghetti with a fried egg and the fried chicken leg Mary had requested, along with an extra bowl of chicken soup.
The enticing aroma filled the room, and Mary suddenly felt very hungry.
But she was a bit uneasy.
Was she supposed to eat in the room?
"No need," Mary said, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the gesture. "I can go to the dining room."
Timothy raised an eyebrow, looking at Mary clutching her stomach in pain, and said, "You can, but clearly your stomach can't."
He then placed a napkin in front of Mary.
Having never been served so intimately by a man, Mary couldn't help but feel her face heat up again.
"Eat quickly, while it's hot. The pasta won't taste as good if it cools down. And make sure to drink the chicken soup; it'll warm you up and your stomach will feel better."
Timothy's stern face softened under the bedroom light and the steam from the food.
Listening to his gentle and caring words, Mary felt a warm sensation in her heart.
No matter what, this gentle and caring Timothy was real, and he was here because of her, right?
For some reason, Felicity's words suddenly came to mind: "I think you two have a chance. Timothy might be the type who's tough on the outside but soft on the inside. He definitely cares about you."
Mary picked up her utensils, lowered her eyes slightly, and carefully took a bite of the spaghetti.
The delicious sauce and tender pasta instantly opened up her appetite.
The fried egg soaked in the sauce was smooth and tasty.
For the first time during her period, Mary felt so hungry.
Before long, she had finished most of the food, but she really didn't want to drink the last bowl of soup.
Timothy had said it was chicken soup, and she disliked the taste of chicken soup.
"Don't worry, even though it's chicken soup, it tastes delicious."
Timothy looked at Mary's slightly furrowed brows and hesitant expression, finding her both adorable and amusing.
Mary was slightly stunned, feeling a complex emotion she couldn't quite describe.
How did Timothy know she didn't like the taste of chicken soup?
"If you keep spacing out, the chicken soup will get cold."
Timothy wasn't negotiating; he was determined for Mary to drink it.
Mary pursed her lips, carefully tasted a sip, and found the chicken soup surprisingly flavorful.
Before she knew it, she had finished the soup and even wanted more.
"My stomach feels much better," Mary said, feeling the pain lessen significantly, and she relaxed a bit.
"How can you go on a business trip in the next few days? Maybe you should cancel it," Timothy said, frowning slightly as he remembered how Mary always had severe stomach pain during her period, making it nearly impossible for her to go out.
"No way."
Mary's eyes widened, looking like a stubborn kitten.
"How can I back down? This is the best chance to prove myself."
Timothy looked at her coldly, "Prove yourself? Are you sure you can leave the house tomorrow morning?"
Mary's first three days of her period were always the worst, with her stomach hurting at the slightest breeze.
"I have a secret weapon," Mary pouted. She could use disposable heat packs if needed.
She had already thought about this problem and bought plenty of heat packs earlier, worried she might encounter her period while in Westfield.
"Alright, just don't cry when the time comes."
Timothy shook his head helplessly. Mary was usually gentle, but when she was stubborn, there was no changing her mind. He got up and cleaned up the leftovers, taking them to the kitchen.
Mary also got up to finish packing her luggage and then freshened up.
After finally lying down, she couldn't help but think that the best thing in life was being wrapped in a warm blanket.
Just as she was about to close her eyes, there was another knock on the door.
What now?
Mary was puzzled, and then she saw Timothy come in wearing his pajamas.
His pajamas were gray, simple and straightforward, but they couldn't hide his chiseled features and stunningly handsome face.
Seeing him, she was even more dazed, momentarily forgetting to ask why he had come in.
Timothy didn't say anything either. He walked over, and to Mary's surprise, lay down beside her, then turned over and hugged her like a silly kitten.
"Alright, sleep now."
Timothy's cool voice reached Mary's ears, accompanied by the faint scent of his cologne, enveloping her once again.
"What are you doing?"
Mary hadn't finished asking when Timothy's warm hand covered her slightly cold stomach.
