Chapter 1033: Will He Leave?
Only him. When Kenneth brought him back, he was holding lilies!
Could it be that he's back?
Mary froze, trying to control her trembling as she scanned the area.
But all she saw was the back of a car slowly driving away.
Still, Mary noticed something!
There was a silhouette in the car's rear window, a silhouette that was so familiar!
Mary's pupils contracted sharply. Without thinking, she started running after the car.
Was it you? Had you really come back?
Mary ran desperately, tears streaming down her face, blurring her vision.
All she could think about was catching up to him!
She had to catch up to him; she couldn't let him leave again!
Her eyes saw nothing but the car getting farther away. In her frantic run, she collided with two people.
It was Catherine and Timothy who had come to pay their respects.
They looked like they were putting on a show, both dressed in black.
Holding hands, they looked more like a couple than mourners.
Mary glanced at them briefly, too focused to care, and tried to get around them.
The car had already started moving, and it was almost out of sight.
If she didn't chase it now, she would really miss it, really lose sight of it.
But Timothy grabbed her arm: "Where are you going?"
"Let go!"
Mary struggled to break free, desperate to leave.
"He's back! He's really back! I have to stop him!"
Timothy had never seen Mary so frantic, so excited.
Worried, he asked, "Who's back? Who are you looking for?"
"Move!"
Mary's eyes were red, and she was in a hurry to leave, not bothering to explain.
Timothy and Catherine blocked her path, continuing to ask, "Tell us clearly, and we'll help you find him."
Mary was so anxious she felt like she could fly. She found the two of them incredibly annoying and wished she could kick them away.
Catherine, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up: "Mary, who are you looking for? Tell us, and we'll help you find him."
Mary's behavior was too abnormal, and Timothy's insistence on holding her was also strange. Why was he so close to Mary?
"Let go!"
Mary shouted in frustration, "If I don't go now, I won't be able to stop him! I can't let him leave again!"
Timothy was stunned by her shout. Hearing the words "leave again," a sudden realization hit him.
The "he" Mary was talking about must be the man she had been waiting for all this time.
So, it was he who had come back.
A surge of inexplicable emotion rushed from Timothy's feet to his head. Instead of letting go, he held Mary even tighter.
He had a gut feeling that if he let go now, Mary would really find that man and leave with him forever.
In their urgency, neither of them noticed Catherine's strange expression as she watched. She had a feeling that something was off.
Mary and Timothy seemed too close, too intimate.
What was their relationship?
Mary's familiarity with Timothy and his concern for her were too unusual. Catherine was sure there was something special between them.
As Catherine pondered, Mary finally broke free from Timothy's grip, pushing him away and running madly towards the cemetery gate.
Timothy's face turned pale, and he wanted to chase after her.
Catherine gently grabbed his arm, saying, "Mary must have something important to deal with. Let's go see Professor Smith."
Timothy stood still, not saying a word.
Catherine smiled softly and said, "Mary's an adult. It's normal for her to have her own matters to handle. Don't worry too much."
"Today is my first time visiting Professor Smith. It wouldn't be right to leave now."
Hearing this, Timothy turned his head to look at the tombstone.
Finally, he reached out and took Catherine's hand, leading her over.
The car drove steadily on the road. Charles was in the back seat, eyes closed, exuding a somber aura.
"Mr. Turner, are you okay?" Charles's assistant asked with concern.
"I'm fine. Let's go. There's still work to do at the company." As the car prepared to turn, Charles kept his eyes closed, missing the familiar figure in the rearview mirror.
Mary could only watch as the car disappeared on the mountain road; the only thing she managed to do was memorize the license plate number.
She ran until she had no strength left, then collapsed to her knees, tears streaming down her face.
Charles! Was it you?
In the cemetery, Timothy and Catherine stood side by side in front of the tombstone, looking at the two bouquets of flowers.
One bouquet of lilies, one of carnations.
Timothy frowned slightly, but Catherine didn't notice.
She looked at Kenneth's photo and said wistfully, "Professor Smith was such a good person. Why did this have to happen?"
Timothy remained silent, staring at the tombstone, lost in thought.
Seeing his despondent look, Catherine also fell silent.
She had many questions swirling in her mind, wanting to ask Timothy, but she couldn't bring herself to speak.
Like, what was going on between him and Mary? Why was Mary so familiar with him? Why was he so concerned about Mary?
But because she cared too much, she didn't dare to ask directly.
After a moment of silence, Catherine cautiously said, "No matter what, we were both Professor Smith's students. Now that he's gone, we should take care of Mary."
Before she could finish, Timothy looked at his watch and said, "I have something urgent to handle this afternoon. I have to go."
Without looking at Catherine, he turned and walked away.
They had come in separate cars, so he wasn't leaving her stranded.
But being left alone in the cemetery still pained Catherine.
Watching Timothy's figure grow distant, her expression became increasingly forlorn.
Mary returned home in a daze, sitting on the couch, lost in thought.
After all these years, he had finally come back. But if he was back, why didn't he come to find her?
Where had he been all these years?
Would he leave after seeing Kenneth?
Would he never come back again?
Mary felt like an empty doll, lost in her thoughts until Timothy walked in, and she didn't even notice, still immersed in her own world.
Seeing her like this, Timothy was furious.
