Chapter 10 captured again

Chapter 10 captured again
I pushed harder, forcing my body to outrun the dread blooming like mildew. My lungs burned, my ribs screaming with each gulp of air, but I didn’t dare slow. If I stopped, even for a heartbeat, I knew the Alpha’s men would catch me again.

I tried. God, I tried. But I was unlucky because just as I ran out of the alleyway, I out of the blue came in contact with something.

The impact knocked the air out of me, sent me stumbling backward with a gasp that scraped raw against my throat. My trembling hands shot out to steady myself against the wall, but when I looked up…

My heart dropped.

It was the Alpha himself.

I staggered back a step, but it made no difference. His eyes were on me.

Dark. Endless. Midnight with no stars. They held nothing human, no spark of mercy, just the cold certainty of a predator who had already won, a heartless Alpha who didn't want a mate.

I swallowed hard and raised my hands in defence. How could it be possible? He was entirely in another room and now he was here suddenly.

"Where do you think you were running off to?" he asked, taking a step forward while something even more dangerous appeared in his eyes.

"Nowhere." I mumbled, giving my head a light shake.

"When I want a head, it means I want a head," he continued, his teeth pressed and jaw clenched hard.

"But sometimes, I'd rather prefer a chase, just for myself." The corner of his mouth tugged into a smile as his gaze spread over me.

"Let me leave and I promise I won't come back. You don't have to kill me."

He grabbed my wrist, digging his fingers into my flesh as his attention diverted for a moment. When his eyes met with mine again, he said,

“Do you think that makes you safe?” he murmured, his mouth twisting into something crueler than a smile. “It only makes you more valuable. And if you thought you could run from me…” His claws slid free, the sharp tips grazing my wrist as he held me captive. “…then you’ve learned just how wrong you were.”

He yanked me closer, until my body collided with his, until escape was no longer even an illusion.

“You are mine now,” he whispered.

I shook my head. I couldn't let him throw me in that dungeon again. Or worse kill me.

“No,” I rasped, twisting in his grip, nails digging into his arm though I knew it was useless.

I pulled my wrist away from him finallu and stepped away, but didn't flee-not yet.

"I don't want to die." I said, my voice as low as a whisper.

"That is for me to decide and for you to, well, I'm unsure what you'll be able to do once you're slaughtered open." He responded, his words cruel, showing no mercy.

"I've done nothing!"

"You stepped into my territory," He turned away from the wall and said while a dark shadow appeared over his features. "And anyone that steps into my territory digs up their own grave and lies in it."

My breath hitched, the chill of his words settling deep in my bones. Digs up their own grave and lies in it.

“I didn’t mean to,” I whispered, shaking my head so hard it made the world blur. “It was an accident. I was only trying to survive.”

His gaze slid back to me. Accidents don’t exist in my world,” he said. “Every choice has a price. And you…” his eyes narrowed, his lips curling into that cruel half-smile again, “…you’ve already been chosen to pay.”

Before I could respond, the two men alongside with him returned after realising I had been found. They stood behind him, quiet-mute, eyes lowered to the ground. I was sandwiched between all of them, unable to run on either way.

My chest rose and drop. I looked around.

"There's no escape and I prefer if you don't create a scene and come with me willingly. Omegas like you don't have any other fate either way." The Alpha said, his voice now lowered as people began leaving their homes and continuing their days.

"No."

The two men came behind me, ready to throw hands and drag me back in the cell but the Alpha didn't command them yet, which meant they couldn't grab me -yet.

But of course, they immediately started to drag me.

Their rough hands clamped down on my arms, yanking me backward with such force that my feet scraped against the dirt, stumbling to keep up. My nails clawed at their grips, but it was like trying to fight iron shackles.

“Let go!” I cried, thrashing in their hold, my voice breaking.

The Alpha didn’t move to stop them. He only stood there, watching me struggle.

Hands were steady around my shoulders as they walked this time into the fairly large seating room.

Part of the sunlight flooded in through the curtains while half of the room remained in darkness.

The Alpha walked up to the fireplace and then turned, glancing at one of his men. "Bring me the man who was meant to kill her." He said.

The man beside me nodded his head and went away. My brows furrowed. Were they going to try and kill me again? A few minutes ticked by before two men returned, one of them being the man I had seen in the dungeon, the merciful man who let me escape.

Upon finding me, he was shocked, but quickly covered his surprise before facing his Alpha.

"Was it hard to kill her and bring her head to me?" The Alpha asked him.

"I-no," the poor man shook his head, now in fear of his own life. "I was meant to. She fled."

My gaze lowered at the claws extending. The Alpha lunged at the man, grabbing him by his throat while his eyes darkened. My breath hitched and I stepped back upon getting a glimpse of the blood trickling down his neck.

"Please. No. I was going to kill her ... let me kill her right now!" The man exclaimed, now obeying his orders.
