Chapter 146
Chapter 146
Annabelle clenched both fists until her knuckles whitened and snarled, “I’m going to kill those two cheating rats!”
Adaline caught her daughter’s wrist and whispered, “Annie, don’t be reckless. All Victor did was say those things to Elena, he hasn’t formally asked to annul the engagement. If you tear that thin veil yourself, you and he will truly be over.”
Rage flooded Annabelle’s veins; every nerve burned with the
She choked out, “Then what am I supposed to do?”
Adaline’s eyes narrowed. “I have a way–one move, double the pavolt
“What way?” Annabelle demanded.
Without another word, Adaline slipped out her phone.
Elena into a thousand pieces.
Like a man possessed, Victor crushed Elena against his chest, trying to force a kiss.
Elena thrashed her head and cried, “Victor Whitmore, snap out of it! Do you even know what you’re doing?”
“I know exactly what I’m doing! Elena Bennett, I’ve never been clearer–I want you to be my fiancée. For the rest of your life you belong to me!”
His mouth was inches away when Elena suddenly drove her knee up–hard.
Pain exploded between Victor’s legs; he doubled over with a guttural groan and his grip fell away.
Elena shoved him aside and bolted down the corridor.
It took Victor a long moment to straighten. He ground out her name between clenched teeth, “Damn woman–are you trying to make me a
eunuch?”
Elena slipped back into the banquet hall. Simon Whitmore was still being pressed by guests to drink; she waited quietly at his side.
A moment later, Simon managed to disengage and walked over to her.
Elena murmured, “When will this end? I want to go home.”
Simon noticed how pale she looked and assumed she was still upset about Adaline pushing her to pour drinks. He didn’t press.
“All right, we’ll leave now,” he said.
They had just turned when a collective gasp rippled through the crowd.
Elena looked toward the commotion and saw, to her horror, a photograph of herself and Victor suddenly filling the giant screen.
It showed the moment outside the restroom when Victor had yanked her close for that near–kiss.
The shot was taken from such an angle that her struggle was invisible.
Elena wondered, ‘Who took that picture?‘
Chapter 146
Annabelle burst into loud sobs, pointing straight at Elena. “Oh my God–Elena, how could you seduce my fiancé!”
Every gaze in the room swung toward Elena.
Someone whispered, “What’s going on? Isn’t that Victor Whitmore, the Whitmore heir? How is he entangled with the Bennett sisters?
“You didn’t hear? Victor and Annabelle got engaged, but the ceremony was postponed for some mysterious reason. Looks like it had something to do with her big sister.”
“Stealing your own sister’s man–now that’s a scandal.”
Annabelle wailed, “Elena! If you want Victor, I’ll give him up–but why stab me in the back like this?”
Elena’s voice was ice cold. “Did you take that photo?”
Annabelle ignored the question, still screeching accusations about her stolen fiancé.
“Since you shot the picture, you must have heard what Victor said, right? Annabelle, you’re pathetic.”
Annabelle’s whole body shook with fury; her face went ashen and she broke into heart–rending sobs before everyone.
Beside Elena’s frozen expression, Annabelle really did appear to be the injury.
Adaline stepped forward as well, adding, “Elena, I never imagined you’d act like such a faithless flirt!”
