Chapter 91 Chapter 91
The sound of soft music filled the air as Marcus lay lazily on the bed, a smile playing on his lips. The hotel room was grand — gold curtains, white sheets, and the faint smell of wine and perfume.
Beside him, Lila sat in a silk robe, sipping a glass of champagne. She laughed softly as she looked at Marcus. “You’re really something else, Marcus. Forty million naira? From one woman?”
Marcus smirked. “Not just any woman. Cassandra is easy. She’s blinded by love and greed. I only had to tell her I wanted to grow my business, and she handed me everything.”
Lila chuckled. “And now she’s probably crying her eyes out.”
Marcus shrugged. “That’s her problem. She thought she could buy a man like me.”
Lila shook her head in amusement. “So what’s next for you, big man? You’ve got money, you’ve got me, and a fancy hotel room. What more do you want?”
Marcus laughed. “More, of course. I never stop. I’m already planning to invest in something small, just enough to double the money before I leave the country.”
Lila raised her brow. “Leave? Where?”
Marcus sat up and stretched. “Maybe Dubai. Maybe London. I haven’t decided yet. But this place—” he waved his hand lazily, “—is too small for me now.”
Lila smiled and moved closer to him. “You’ll forget me once you leave.”
Marcus turned to her and touched her cheek lightly. “How can I forget a woman like you? You’re the reason I’m smiling.”
Lila giggled, placing her head on his shoulder. “You always know what to say.”
He grinned proudly. “That’s why I get what I want. Always.”
They both laughed. The waiter knocked on the door, and Marcus stood up to open it. Two waiters came in, rolling a table full of food — grilled chicken, fried rice, fruit wine, and dessert.
“Set it there,” Marcus ordered with a wave. He pulled out a bundle of cash from his pocket and handed it to one of them. “Keep the change.”
The waiter smiled wide. “Thank you, sir!”
As the door closed, Marcus turned to Lila. “Now this is the life. No stress, no drama, just good food and a beautiful woman.”
Lila smiled, picking up her fork. “And forty million reasons to be happy.”
Marcus laughed loudly. “Exactly!”
They started eating and drinking, talking about everything — money, cars, travel. Lila told him about her dream to own a fashion brand someday. Marcus promised to sponsor it.
“You’ll have your own shop in Dubai,” he said confidently.
Lila laughed. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”
“I always keep my promises,” Marcus replied with a wink.
But later that night, after the drinks were finished and the lights dimmed, Marcus sat quietly at the balcony, staring out at the city.
The noise of cars and music below didn’t stop his thoughts. He had everything he wanted for now — money, freedom, and pleasure. But deep inside, a tiny fear started growing.
“What if Cassandra talks?” he muttered to himself.
He shook the thought away quickly. “She won’t dare. She’s too scared of losing her husband.”
Still, something inside him felt uneasy.
He finished his wine and walked back into the room. Lila was already asleep, her hair spread over the pillow. Marcus stood for a moment, watching her.
“Soon,” he whispered. “I’ll disappear with everything. No one will ever find me.”
He smiled again and climbed into bed, pulling Lila close.
As he closed his eyes, his phone buzzed. He ignored it. But what he didn’t know was that Vanessa had started asking questions — and someone had already spotted him in town.
His sweet life was about to turn bitter.
