Chapter 189 Chapter 189
The night everyone had been waiting for finally came — the grand dinner party where all the business partners were to gather with their wives. The mansion was filled with excitement and light. Savannah stood in front of the mirror, carefully adjusting her sparkling silver gown that hugged her body in all the right ways. Her hair flowed gently down her shoulders, and her skin glowed like soft gold under the warm light.
Adrian walked into the room and stopped halfway, staring at her like it was the first time he ever saw her. His lips curved into a slow, proud smile.
“Wow,” he breathed. “You look… breathtaking, my love. I swear, I’ve never seen anything so beautiful.”
Savannah blushed softly and turned to him with a shy smile. “Stop teasing me,” she said, pretending to be serious, though her cheeks had already turned pink.
“I’m not teasing,” Adrian said, walking closer and holding her by the waist. “You look like a dream I never want to wake up from.”
She laughed lightly, brushing her hand across his chest. “You always know what to say.”
Adrian smiled and kissed her forehead. “Only the truth, baby. Tonight, every eye will be on you.”
Savannah smiled but didn’t say anything. Deep down, her heart was full of joy and peace. For the first time in a long while, everything felt perfect — her family, her husband, her son. She felt loved and safe.
Just then, a small cry broke the quiet moment.
“Mummy!” a little voice called from the next room. It was Liam.
Savannah quickly turned. “Oh no, Liam.”
Adrian smiled. “Guess our little man is jealous because his mummy looks too beautiful tonight.”
Savannah chuckled and walked to Liam’s room. She found him standing beside the bed, holding his teddy bear and pouting. His big brown eyes were full of tears.
“Mummy, you’re going out again?” he asked in his tiny voice.
“Yes, baby,” Savannah said gently, kneeling down. “Mummy and daddy have a dinner to attend. You’ll stay with aunty Lisa, okay?”
Liam’s lips trembled. “No… I want to go too.”
Savannah sighed softly and hugged him close. “Oh, sweetheart, it’s not for kids. It’s only for adults.”
But Liam’s crying grew louder. “Please, mummy, I want to go with you!”
Adrian had walked in quietly and stood by the door, watching them with a smile. “You know he loves you too much to stay behind,” he said.
Savannah looked at Liam again, wiping his tears. “Baby, don’t cry, okay?” she said softly. But when she placed her hand on his forehead, her expression changed. His skin felt warm. Too warm.
Her heart skipped. “Adrian,” she said quickly, turning to him. “He feels hot.”
Adrian rushed closer and touched the boy’s forehead. “You’re right. He feels a bit warm. Maybe it’s just from crying?”
Savannah shook her head. “No, this isn’t from crying. He feels sick.”
Her heart started racing as she looked at her little boy. “We can’t leave him like this.”
Adrian rubbed her shoulder. “Okay, calm down. We’ll stay back. Forget the dinner—”
But Savannah quickly shook her head. “No, we can go, but I can’t leave him here. What if he gets worse? I’ll take him with us. It’s safer.”
Adrian looked at her for a moment and then nodded. “Alright. If it makes you feel better, we’ll take him.”
Savannah kissed Liam’s forehead again and whispered softly, “It’s okay, baby. You’re coming with mummy and daddy.”
Liam sniffed and smiled weakly. “Okay, mummy.”
Savannah stood and looked at Adrian. “Let me get his jacket and shoes.”
Adrian smiled faintly and said, “You’re such a good mum.”
She quickly got Liam ready while Adrian made a few calls to inform their driver to prepare the car. The atmosphere that had started with laughter now turned a bit tense.
Savannah’s heart couldn’t rest. As she carried her son close, she kept touching his forehead, hoping the warmth would go down.
Adrian noticed and whispered, “He’ll be fine, Savannah. Maybe he’s just tired or caught a little cold.”
“I hope so,” she said softly, trying to hide her worry behind a weak smile.
As they walked out of the room together, Savannah looked back once more at the mirror. Just moments ago, she had been smiling at her reflection — a glowing woman ready for a perfect night.
But now, her heart was filled with quiet fear for her son.
The driver opened the car door, and Adrian held it for her as she stepped in with Liam resting against her chest.
“Let’s go,” Adrian said gently, trying to sound calm.
Savannah nodded, brushing Liam’s hair as the car drove off into the night — unaware that this dinner party would change everything.
