Chapter 221: Amalie
“He’s perfect,” Vickie says softly.
I blink my eyes open. We’ve been moved to a bedroom. My best friend is sitting in an armchair beside me. I look around to see a bassinet and several more armchairs. Vickie is sitting in one with Kira standing behind her. Early morning light filters in through the blinds.
“He is,” I say before I let out a yawn. I shift so I am sitting up and leaning against the headboard.
“How are you feeling?” Kira asks as she looks up at me.
“Sore as hell and drained,” I say.
“I bet,” Vickie snickers as she stands up and hands me my baby.
“Hello little one,” I coo at my son. My perfect son is asleep wrapped in his blue blanket with little wolves on it. I look around. “I figured the twins would be here.”
“They just left a few minutes ago,” Kira assures me.
“Rose wanted breakfast,” Vickie says.
“I’ve been asleep that long?” I asked, startled at the information. I look back out the window, and the sun actually registers now. “His first feeding?”
“Gretchen has been bottle feeding him. We figured the stress from yesterday took its toll,” Kira says as she sits on the side of my bed.
“Thanks for being here,” I say.
“Oh, we’ve also been guarding your door to keep nosy pack members away,” Vickie laughs.
“Yes, at least twenty different people tried to get in here to see you and little Tony,” Kira smirks.
Anthony lets out a whimper as he wakes up. He lets out a big yawn. Anthony then starts to wiggle and fussy.
“Shh, it’s alright,” I say soothingly. I adjust my shirt and let Anthony latch on. He does immediately. “That is a weird feeling,” I blurt out.
Kira and Vickie burst into a fit of laughter. The abrupt noise startles Anthony and he starts to cry.
“Shh, shh, it’s okay. Your aunts were being loud,” I shush him as I send a smirk to the other women.
My baby settles quickly and starts trying to eat again.
“Sorry,” Kira says with a smile.
I am about to say something when I hear my family approaching the door.
“Remember, we have to be gentle and quiet,” Cal says.
“I be very gentle,” Rose says as the door opens. Rose walks in and sees me awake. “Mommy!”
“Hi baby,” I say as Rose climbs onto the bed.
“Baby Tony?” Rose asks as she sits on her heels in front of me.
“Trying to eat,” I laugh.
“How are you feeling, love?” Cal asks as he sets his tray on the nightstand.
“Better,” I tell him as I pucker my lips slightly.
Cal obliges and gives me a kiss.
“Where’s Mark?” I ask once we break apart.
“Calling our alliance members. Telling them that Devin has been taken care of and you had Anthony,” he says as he sits down on the bed.
“Everyone doing okay?” I ask.
“They are fine, most are wondering how you are doing,” Mark says as he walks into the room. “Darling, you have to stop getting in trouble,” he sighs.
“Not really sorry,” I say sheepishly.
“We know,” Cal sighs.
“Where is Devin?” I ask suddenly.
“Dead,” Mark says sharply. “We had him put down last night.”
“You make it sound like he was a rabid dog,” I point out.
“You’re not far off,” Cal mutters.
“He was a bloody and burned mess after having the silver chains wrapped around him for hours,” Mark tells me.
“He begged to be put out of his misery,” Cal says.
Shit, I did that to him. I made him use silver on himself. Something that I never should have. I made him torture himself to, basically, death. I was tortured with silver, and I never wanted anyone else to suffer the same way. Then I went and had someone torture themselves with it. I’m a horrible Luna and wolf.
“You are amazing,” Cal says sharply.
“Having a moment of weakness where you lash out, does not mean you are a horrible wolf,” Mark tells me as he cups my cheek.
I take a deep breath, so I do not start crying.
‘Told you that you were overreacting and they would not be mad,’ Beren says simply. ‘They attacked and wanted what was ours.’
‘We still made our sister kill herself,’ I point out.
‘She stopped being our sister a long time ago,’ Beren says sadly.
“Mommy, okay?” Rose asks, her own lip quivering.
“I’m fine, Rosebud,” I tell her.
“When do you want to show the pack our son?” Mark asks, changing the subject.
“Tomorrow,” I say as I adjust Anthony. “And, only a few people can visit him. They are not holding him unless I approve.”
“The elders will not be happy,” Cal mutters, but I know he won’t push.
“Forget that, every single wolf that has baby fever and loves to hold newborns, are not going to be happy,” Vickie cackles.
“Well, the elders can go jump off a cliff. They are not the ones who just gave birth,” I grouch. “Plus, one of the books said that we should limit the amount of people who visit so Anthony doesn’t get sick.”
“True,” Mark chuckles.
“You’re going to be one of those helicopter parents. Obsessed with making sure your baby does not get any germs,” Kira snickers.
“No, but I was not able to worry about these things with Rose,” I say simply.
“Hello,” Rebekah says as she knocks on the door while opening it.
“We came to visit,” Harold says with a huge smile.
“Hi,” I say as I shift train of thought. I’m happy that the older Alpha and Luna decided to visit.
“Thought you were coming tomorrow,” Cal mutters.
“Well, we decided to come early to help you settle into your roles as leaders with a newborn,” Rebekah says.
“It can’t be that much different,” I say, knowing that the words I just spoke are a lie.
“It can be a lot to juggle all the responsibilities of leading a pack and being parents,” Harold tells us.
“You have been handling being parents of Rose wonderfully, but now you have a newborn that requires different attention. Not to mention, pushy pack members,” Rebekah points out.
“And you heard what I did to Devin and Melissa,” I say with a sigh as my head thunks back against the headboard.
“Yes, and well done,” Harold says with a smile.
