Chapter 87
Cedrick’s brow furrowed faintly, but he held back–Granny was present. “Why do you always rush me away?”
“You being here…” Lucille hadn’t gone for her Acupuncture Therapy today.
The doctor had daytime house calls, so their appointment was set for 5:30 PM. It was already too late.
Since returning from Capital City, he’d never once asked about her consultation results there -whether her foot could still be healed.
Since he didn’t ask, she didn’t tell.
This was fine. Best if they stopped caring about each other altogether.
She swallowed her half–finished sentence. Just then, her phone buzzed–a message from the acupuncture doctor apologizing, saying the house call just ended, and he’d be running late.
She quickly replied: No problem, Doctor. I’m still in Country Village. It’ll take me a while to get there.
Country Village was where Granny currently lived.
The doctor saw this and immediately replied: Then you don’t need to go to the hospital. I’m only ten minutes away from Country Village. Send me your location, and I’ll come give you Acupuncture Therapy.
Lucille glanced at Cedrick, feeling a bit annoyed. It seemed he wasn’t going to leave today. Why hadn’t Maricela called him away yet?
This Acupuncture Therapy thing couldn’t be hidden anymore. Whether the doctor came or she insisted on going to the clinic, she couldn’t avoid Cedrick.
Forget it, no point struggling.
She sent her location to the doctor.
“Who are you texting?”

Lucille ignored him, standing to clear the table. “Grandma, did you save some dishes like usual?”
Whenever she visited, Grandma cooked extra, setting aside portions of heartier dishes.
“Yes! Chicken Stew and Beef Stew.”
Grandma replied eagerly.
“Perfect. We’re having a guest who probably hasn’t eaten.”
“Oh dear! I’ll whip up two more vegetable dishes right now!”
Grandma hurried to the kitchen.
Only Lucille and Cedrick remained at the table.
He glared. “Who’s coming?”
“Someone you don’t know,” she said flatly.
“Since when do you know people I don’t?
Mrs. Maynard, need I remind you? We’ve known each other since we were fifteen.”
That title “Mrs. Maynard” always carried a mocking chill.
Lucille thought he’d lost his mind–they hadn’t even been together during college!
Did he know every classmate from her dance academy?
She refused to argue, stacking plates.
“Sit down.”
He pulled her back and took over.
Lucille let him clean up and stepped outside. Even with her location shared, the doctor might struggle to find the place.
After tidying the table, Cedrick followed and found her leaning against the courtyard’s blue- brick gate. Her hair was swept into a careless ponytail, white T–shirt glowing softly in the

dusk.
For a fleeting moment, her silhouette mirrored her high–school self.
“Lucille, who exactly are you waiting for?”
He approached sternly, but she seemed deaf to his words, standing on tiptoe to scan the road.
Soon, a car approached. Lucille waved vigorously, her face blossoming into a smile.
Cedrick’s frown deepened as he watched her radiant expression. “Lucille-”
Before he could continue, she darted forward, utterly ignoring him.
Lucille reached the car as a gentle–mannered man in his thirties stepped out. They exchanged warm smiles.
Cedrick stood frozen, his expression darkening.
Lucille led Dr. Quill toward the house, only to find Cedrick blocking the doorway like an immovable boulder.
With a resigned sigh, Lucille smiled at the doctor. “This is Mr. Maynard.”
Then to Cedrick: “This is Dr. Quill, here for my Acupuncture Therapy.”
Cedrick’s stern composure cracked. “Doctor?
Acupuncture?
Lucille, you-”
He abruptly stepped aside. “Dr. Quill, please forgive my rudeness. Had I known you were coming, I’d have picked you up.”
