Chapter 69
“Please wait a bit longer. I’ll inform Mr. Maynard once the meeting ends.”
The secretary smiled, then left and closed the door behind her.
Lucille waited in the conference room.
Ten minutes passed.
Twenty minutes passed.
Half an hour…
Watching time slip away, she couldn’t wait any longer. Rising to open the door, she found it locked from the outside.
This was bad!
She had a visa appointment this afternoon!
Frantically, she began calling Cedrick. Strangely, the phone rang but no one picked up.
Lucille knew that if this wasn’t a setup, it was almost impossible.
She didn’t even have time to figure out who set this up or why. Her visa application was probably too late now.
She looked around the conference room. It was on the top floor of the company building. Jumping down wasn’t an option.
She had several numbers from Cedrick’s company in her phone. She called them one by one.
First, the receptionist. After connecting, she yelled, “Help! I’m locked in the top–floor conference room! Please save me!”
The same girl answered the phone. She scoffed coldly, “Couldn’t seduce Cedrick, got caught by security, huh?”
“Heh, serves you right!”

Then, the call ended.
She actually had Harlan and David’s numbers in her phone. Even though they were sworn enemies who hated each other, when they first met, as Cedrick’s brothers, they exchanged contacts in front of Cedrick,
But as expected, neither of them answered.
These two were never on her side. Expected.
She sat down, her hands trembling as she opened her phone and quickly wrote an email to cancel her visa appointment.
Then, she picked up the “passion fruit lemonade” on the table and drank it all in one gulp.
Soon, her face started itching.
This wasn’t passion fruit lemonade at all…
She checked the time. Another ten minutes had passed. Lucy Sterling hadn’t returned, and no one else knew she was here…
Everyone in the entire office building was doing their work steadily. Suddenly, the smoke alarm on the top floor went off, and at the same time, the whole building’s alarm blared.
“What’s going on?”
Many people ran out of their offices to look, asking each other what happened.
“There’s smoke!”
“Fire!”
Someone started shouting, “Call the fire department!”
Cedrick also heard the noise. He came out immediately and saw smoke coming from the small conference room.
“The conference room is on fire. Luckily, no one was meeting there today.”
A staff member said urgently, “We’ve already called the fire department. They’ll be here soon.”
“How did it catch fire?”

“Where’s security?”
Cedrick’s eyelid had been twitching all day. He had an ominous feeling for no reason.
Bang… bang… bang…
It sounded like someone was banging on the door.
“What’s that noise?”
Cedrick hurried toward the conference room.
Sure enough, the banging was coming from inside the conference room. Someone was banging on the door!
“Who?”
“Who’s in there?”
Cedrick asked urgently, kicking the door with his foot.
Maricela appeared out of nowhere, clutching Cedrick’s waist tightly. “Cedrick, don’t go in! It’s dangerous inside!”
“It’s dangerous inside!”
“There’s someone inside!”
Cedrick said loudly.
“Cedrick… Cedrick… save me… Cedrick…”
A faint cry for help, barely audible.
Cedrick was shocked. “Lucille!”
“Lucille, is that
“Lucille!”
you inside?”
He forcefully pushed Maricela away and rushed forward, kicking the door desperately while shouting, “Someone! Help!”
“Open the door!”

“Open the door for me!”
With a loud bang, the door flew open as he shouted.
The conference room was filled with smoke and heat, flames already consuming half the table. Company slogans pasted on the walls caught fire, spreading relentlessly. Lucille lay near the doorway, barely conscious.
