Chapter 332
As her son–in–law and husband, doesn’t he care at all?
If he cared about Nicole even a little bit?
How could he not know?
His own wife’s mother is on her deathbed in the hospital, and he doesn’t know?”
David was speechless. He sighed, “Well, you should have told me then. I could have helped her. At least as a man, I can run errands, right?”
Zoe didn’t say anything more, but her heart ached for Nicole, feeling it was so unfair to her.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell her. When Nicole called, her voice was unusually calm. She said, “Zoc. my mom is gone.”
Zoe wanted to go to Nicole’s side right then, but Nicole told her not to. She said her mother’s body was already cremated, and she was already in the car, taking her mother’s ashes back to their ancestral family home for burial.
Zoe had blurted out the same question then: Why didn’t you tell me sooner?
She could have helped Nicole.
But Nicole just calmly said, “There’s no need.” She said there was nothing to help with, that it was just a simple cremation and then she left.
In fact, Zoe knew there were two reasons why Nicole only told her after everything was already taken care of
First, Harlan had completely broken her heart
Nicole and Harlan were very unhappy. Harlan had been cheating on her constantly for years, but because Nicole’s mother had a long illness and she herself had quit her job long ago, her finances were limited, so Harlan had her completely under his thumb.
She could imagine how Nicole’s heart must have turned to ash the moment her mother died.
The second reason was that she was pregnant, and Nicole didn’t want to upset her.

Chapter 332
You see, kind Nicole, even at a time like this, was still thinking about her.
But why can’t someone as kind as Nicole be treated well?
David and Zoe left, but Zoe’s words still echoed in Harlan’s cars.

He frowned and took out his phone to call Nicole.
The call went through, and Nicole answered quickly.
“Where are you?”
Harlan asked in a cold voice.
“At home.”
Nicole’s voice came through, and he could hear their son talking in the background. Harlan immediately relaxed. He knew it. Nicole wouldn’t cause any trouble.
Thinking about the death of Nicole’s mother, he still asked, “About your mom…”
“It’s all taken care of.”
Nicole’s voice was exceptionally calm over the phone.
“Nicole, L…” Harlan asked, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You were busy, so I didn’t want to bother you. I could handle it myself.”
“Alright then, I’ll come home early tonight. Tell the nanny to make dinner for me. Wait for me.”
His mother–in–law’s death was a big deal, after all. He should go home and check on Nicole.
Nicole didn’t answer him and just hung up the phone.
After Harlan hung up, he saw Cedrick coming out of his office, looking at him. Maricela was also standing nearby, watching him.
Maricela looked worried. “Harlan, is Nicole…?”
Harlan shrugged. “Nothing happened. Nicole is already home. She just went back to her ancestral family home to handle her mother’s funeral arrangements.”
But Cedrick said, “You should hurry home. An elder’s passing is no small matter. Nicole might say she doesn’t blame you, but she might not actually feel that way inside.‘

A smug look appeared on Harlan’s face. “Cedrick, you’re wrong about that. Nicole isn’t Lucille. She’s the most understanding person. She even said she understands I’m busy, so she didn’t want
to trouble me.”
Cedrick gave a bitter smile. “Are you sure she wasn’t being sarcastic?”
“How could she be sarcastic?
Don’t I know my own wife?
She can’t live without me. She wouldn’t dare mention divorce. Who would support her if we divorced?”
Harlan said contemptuously.
Cedrick shook his head and sighed, “I used to think the same way.”
