Chapter 313
He clicked on it and saw that Cedrick had indeed released a statement, but it was written like this: I’m sorry.
I’m sorry to everyone. My personal affairs have taken up public resources, and I have had a negative impact on society. I sincerely apologize to everyone. At the same time, I also want to say sorry to my wife. I’m sorry, I have failed you all these years. I am willing to accept any punishment.
Lastly, I beg everyone to stop bothering my wife and her family. All the blame is on me alone. They are the injured party, they are innocent.
Harlan was stunned when he saw it.
He read it three times to make sure he wasn’t misunderstanding, then yelled out, “Has Cedrick lost his mind?”
“Wh… what?”
Maricela came over to look, and her face paled too.
“I’m calling Cedrick to ask what’s going on!”
Harlan said angrily.
But when he called again, Cedrick didn’t pick up.
Maricela looked at him, tears streaming down her face. “Cedrick is blaming me. He doesn’t care about me anymore…

Harlan thought for a moment, finding a reason for Cedrick’s behavior. “Cedrick is still trying to get forgiveness from Lucille and Mr. Cruz. After all, he still wants to work with the Rossi company. He has to do this.”
“Really?”
Maricela had a feeling that wasn’t the case.
“Of course it is.”
Harlan said confidently, “Besides, don’t you still have the volunteer trump card?

As long as you bring that up, Cedrick will forgive you for anything you’ve done.”
Maricela forced a smile.
That trump card wasn’t necessarily a trump card; it might be a ticking time bomb, ready to go off at any moment and make things even worse for her.
“What’s wrong?”
Harlan could tell something was off with her.
Maricela didn’t dare tell Harlan the truth. She wasn’t the volunteer back then. She was just playing in the hospital room. He was so handsome at the time and wanted to give her a gift to thank her. She fell for his looks at first sight, and the gift he offered was expensive and she really liked it, so she just went along with it.
“Don’t worry.”
Seeing her so worried, Harlan told her, “Don’t forget, we still have one last ace up our sleeve!”
Maricela looked at him, remaining silent.
The next day.
Cedrick woke up in the living room.
He had barely slept all night, only dozing off for a short while around dawn, but his alarm went off and woke him up soon after.
Lucille had asked to meet him at City Hall at nine. It was seven when he woke up.
No matter what, he had to go today.
Things were already bad enough; he couldn’t stand her up now and leave her waiting for nothing.
He went to take a shower and saw in the mirror that he already looked haggard after just one night.
He couldn’t show himself looking like this, and he certainly couldn’t face Lucille.
He showered and got himself cleaned up and presentable.
As he put on his shirt, the sapphire cufflinks on his sleeves glinted, the light stinging his eyes.
He touched the gems on the cufflinks and finally left the house.

He arrived at City Hall at eight–thirty. Lucille wasn’t there yet.

He rested his hands on the steering wheel as sunlight streamed through the windshield, once again landing on his cufflinks.
Faintly, he thought he saw letters on the platinum base.
Lifting his hand to get a closer look, he saw that both cufflinks were engraved with letters–one with “JZ,” the other with “TY.”
Lucille and Cedrick.
He suddenly remembered how Lucille looked when she was writing the wedding invitations.
Back then, she had excitedly bought a pile of beautiful invitations, waiting for him to come home to discuss how many tables of guests to invite and how many invitations to send out.
