Chapter 288
“Lucille, I know you’re jealous of the history I share with Cedrick and Harlan from back in the day. But don’t think so poorly of me, I’m just attending the banquet as a company assistant…” Maricela said with a completely serious expression. “It wasn’t easy for Cedrick’s company to get where it is today. You live a carefree life at home, you don’t know how hard he works. If they can partner with Rossi’s company, they can take things to a whole new level. This banquet is really important to him.”
Lucille nodded. “Got it.”
Then, she took her phone out of her bag, found Cedrick’s number, and put the call on speaker.
“Why are you calling Cedrick?”
Maricela snapped.
Lucille ignored her, waiting for Cedrick to pick up.
Maricela stopped making a fuss. Calling Cedrick?
When had Cedrick ever not taken her side?
Even when they were kidnapped and he had to choose one of them to live, he chose her!
Lucille was getting way ahead of herself!
Cedrick was in a meeting. Lucille could tell from his hushed voice, and she could hear others talking in the background.
“Lucille!”
Even though his voice was hushed, she could still hear the pleasant surprise in his tone. “I’m stepping out now, don’t hang up.”
Lucille didn’t hang up; she was waiting for him.
Cedrick walked out of the meeting in a few quick steps. In the hallway outside, his voice returned to its normal volume. “Lucille!
Is there something I can help you with?

Where are you?
I’ll head over right now.”
“Aren’t you in a meeting?”
Lucille asked casually.
“It’s not an important meeting. Harlan and the others can handle it.
Where are you?
I’m coming over now.
“1
“That’s not necessary!”
Lucille had no desire to see him. “I’m calling because I have two questions for you.”
“Go ahead!”
“I recall we signed a contract. You haven’t forgotten about it, have you?”
Cedrick froze for a second, but then quickly said, “Of course, I remember.”

He actually felt a little guilty, because he hadn’t fully honored it. He had just found a more secretive way to do things. But Lucille couldn’t possibly know that, could she?
“Good, as long as you remember.‘
Lucille glanced at Maricela, who was already panicking. “I remember one of the clauses said Maricela couldn’t work for your company in any capacity, not even in the subsidiaries you’ve invested in. Otherwise, all your assets would become mine, right?”
“Yes.”
Cedrick’s answer was crisp. He had absolutely followed that rule.
“So, Maricela isn’t your assistant at the company, right?”
“Of course not.”
Cedrick’s voice came through the phone, sharp and clear.
Lucille glanced at Maricela again. Her panic had turned into indignation.
“One more question.”

Lucille continued, “The contract also has a clause: you can’t spend another cent on Maricela. Otherwise, not only do you have to get it back, but all your assets still become mine, right?”
Helen was quite a character. The designer, who was supposedly proud, cold, and unapproachable, was surprisingly lively in front of Robert. It’s amazing how a person can have two completely different sides.
She and Robert stayed hidden in the coffee booth the whole time. Maricela left without ever seeing Robert. Of course, even if she had, she wouldn’t have recognized him as the man she considered a snake.
Rossi’s company gala was the next evening.
In the afternoon, the matching ruby necklace and Helen’s hair and makeup team arrived. They spent the whole afternoon working on Lucille.
Robert was home all afternoon, waiting for her.
Lucille was surprised. She thought for such an important gala, wouldn’t her brother have to be there?
“Edwin’s there. I’d just be in the way.”
Robert said casually.
The way he said that…
“Really!”
Seeing she didn’t believe him, Robert said with a straight face, “If I’m there, they can’t relax while they work. It slows things down.”
