Lucille, you’ve truly become a stranger to me.”
Lucille cupped her hands mockingly. “Couldn’t be better! My greatest wish in life is to become strangers with you. Enjoy your trip!
Let’s go!”
This time, she really left with Aydan and the others.
Only Cedrick and Maricela remained on the square, pointed at by onlookers whispering harsh remarks.
Maricela spun around arguing and defending herself to the crowd.
Cedrick couldn’t bear it and called her back.
Her voice trembled with injustice. “Cedrick, I won’t let them tarnish your reputation. We’re innocent! You’re too good -I can’t allow them to speak ill of you.”
“Doesn’t matter. Gossip means nothing.”
Cedrick murmured the reply, but his gaze stretched far into the distance, following Lucille’s departing figure.
Maricela followed his line of sight, fury bubbling inside her. Still she said, “Cedrick, Lucille couldn’t really want to leave you. She’s just angry seeing me with you… upset you brought me out. I shouldn’t have come.”
Cedrick narrowed his eyes at the horizon, silent.
“Cedrick!”
Maricela shouted. “Did you hear me?”
He murmured again. “Right… Grandma didn’t come with her. If I bring Grandma home, she’ll surely visit.” “Cedrick…” Maricela stared at him in alarm. “Are you listening?”
“Heard you.”
Cedrick finally turned. “Let’s go. Didn’t you want dolls from the boutique?
Lucille’s anger isn’t about you. She’s mad at me.”
“But Cedrick! Everyone misunderstands us now! It’s spreading online–someone was live streaming!”
“Doesn’t matter. Truth needs no defense.”
“They’ll call me a scheming homewrecker!”

“What others say means nothing. I know your heart.”
Hearing Cedrick’s words, Maricela wore a satisfied smile. But when she looked up at his face, she realized his gaze remained distant–his attention wasn’t truly on her.
“Cedrick, let’s leave this place tomorrow?”
She said.
Cedrick stayed silent for a long while.
“Did you hear me?
Cedrick!”
Cedrick slowly turned his eyes back. “Hmm, heard you.”
Lucille had vanished with her three companions.
Throughout the walk, Aydan hadn’t spoken a word.
Canal Town’s streets were clogged with people, yet the air grew inexplicably heavy.
Back at the hotel, Aydan ushered the three women into the elevator before smiling. “Head to your rooms. Forgot to buy something–I’ll go back out.”
“What do
you
need?”
Linda asked him.
“Guy stuff.”
་་
The elevator doors closed, hiding Aydan.
Linda’s roommate wondered aloud, “What special stuff do guys even need?
They don’t have monthly cycles.”
Linda burst out laughing, easing the tense atmosphere. Then she remembered, “I need to buy things too. I’ll head down later. Lucille, you two go ahead.”
When the elevator arrived, Lucille and Linda’s roommate stepped out while Linda rode back down.
The hotel corridor Lucille took overlooked an inner garden.
She spotted Aydan not shopping, but sitting on a garden chair nursing a drink, lost in thought.
Her situation was clearly affecting him…
And tomorrow he’d be dancing.
She couldn’t let her troubles impact the troupe’s performance.

After brief consideration, she headed downstairs to reassure him–urging him to rest well, dance brilliantly tomorrow, and above all, avoid alcohol!
Winding through the hotel’s labyrinthine corridors, she finally reached the garden.
Aydan sat on a bench near the edge, now accompanied by–Linda.
So Linda hadn’t come to shop either.
Lucille smiled, turning to leave when their voices carried her name.
Aydan’s voice trembled with rage, “Bastard!
That damn bastard!
How could he treat Lucille like that?
Who does he think he is!”
His voice choked near tears.
“Aydan!
Don’t be like this. If Lucille finds out, it’ll only upset her more.”
Linda tried calming him.
“That’s why I came out alone!”
Aydan snapped. “Know what angers me most?”
“Is it… Cedrick wronging Lucille?”
Linda guessed.
