Lucille pretended not to notice.
“Lucille.”
He couldn’t hold back. “Last night… was I completely wasted?”
“Yep.”
Lucille burst out laughing at the actors‘ antics on the Reality Show.
Cedrick watched her–propped against the headboard, sunk into fluffy pillows, wrapped in soft blankets, the room at a comfortable temperature. Pure coziness.
He tossed his towel aside and lay down next to her. “Looking mighty cozy there. Dumped me on the couch last night without a second thought?”
His sudden closeness made Lucille instinctively scoot aside, and the water from his hair dripped onto her pillow.
“Hey, move over a bit, your hair’s still dripping!”
She gave him a very disgusted look.
“What do you mean by that?
Disgusted with me?
What’s wrong with my hair dripping?”
As he said this, he lunged forward, and this time, the water from his hair smeared all over her face.
Lucille pushed against his face with her hand, shoving him away forcefully.
“Alright, alright, stop messing around.”
He grabbed her hand, his eyes flickering, and suddenly asked, “Yesterday when I got back, I talked with Harlan for half an hour?”
“Yeah.”
Lucille’s hand was wet, and her expression was even more disgusted.
“Don’t make that face!
Like I’m some dirty person!”
He grabbed a tissue and wiped the water off her hand.

Lucille didn’t want to stir up trouble at this critical moment, or she would have retorted: Isn’t it true?

Thinking there were only two days left, she put “endure” first, deciding to bear with everything for now to ensure a smooth departure.
“By the way, what did Harlan and I talk about?
Talked for so long?”
He asked casually, but his eyes avoided meeting hers.
Feeling guilty?
Lucille sneered inwardly but said, “Oh, you talked about your precious Maricela !”
“Don’t be sarcastic.”
His face immediately showed displeasure.
“Did I say something wrong?
Your phone contact says ‘Maricela ‘.”
“That was…” he said, “That was noted long ago, never changed.”
“Oh, then change it now.”
Lucille said deliberately.
“Lucille, why must you…”
“It’s fine, I’m not forcing you to change it, ‘bear‘ or whatever, I don’t mind.”
Lucille picked up her phone, planning to continue watching the reality show. Gotta say, some actors are born for com- edy; just seeing their face makes you want to laugh.
As Lucille was laughing uncontrollably again, Cedrick covered her phone screen, “What exactly did I say yesterday?”
“You said…” Lucille was still in the joke, her smile bright, “have Harlan take good care of Maricela, you love Maricela so much, but you have to be responsible for me this life.”
“That’s it?”
Cedrick stared at her.
“That’s it, what else do you think you said?
Are you feeling guilty?”
Lucille looked at him and laughed.
His eyes flickered, “No, no.”

“Then fine, don’t bother me watching the Reality Show.”
She pushed his hand away.
“You’re not mad?”
He studied her smile.
“Why should I be mad?
It’s so funny, this show.”
After saying that, she laughed again.

But right away, she couldn’t watch anymore, because Cedrick suddenly hugged her, pressed her head to his shoulder, “Lucille, when is grandma coming back?”
“What?”
Alarm bells rang in her heart, did he notice something off?
“How about the day after tomorrow?
I have a few days free starting then, let’s take grandma on a trip, didn’t we agree?”
He said.
“This… talk later, grandma might not be back on a set day.”
Lucille thought to herself, what a coincidence?
She and grandma did have a trip planned, just without him.
“Which old friend is grandma playing with?
Why is she gone so long?”
There was actually resentment in his tone.
