Cedrick called the waiter and ordered a steak.
The food hadn’t started coming yet when Cedrick’s phone rang.
Grandma couldn’t see this direction, but Lucille saw, the caller ID showed: Maricela Darling.
Rarely, Cedrick didn’t answer and hung up.
It’s like the sun rising from the west.
But Maricela wouldn’t let him off, a message came immediately: Where are you?
Cedrick?
We’re all here.
“I’m going to the restroom.”
He stood up and said.
Restroom?
Lucille laughed.
Cedrick paused slightly and glanced at Lucille.
Lucille raised an eyebrow, of course she wouldn’t expose him, today was a happy day for her and Grandma, it would- n’t be ruined by any fly in the ointment.
Grandma smiled, “Go ahead.”
Cedrick got up and walked towards the back of the restaurant.
The back was the direction to the restroom, and of course, also to the private rooms.
“Grandma, I’ll go too, you start eating.”
Lucille said.
“Okay, go ahead.”
Lucille followed to the back.
She saw Cedrick’s coat tail enter a private room, after going in, he closed the door but not tightly.
This Western restaurant was famous for its ambiance, but the soundproofing wasn’t great, Lucille could hear every-

thing clearly outside.
The first thing Cedrick said after entering was, “Lucille is also eating outside.”
“What a coincidence?”
Harlan said, “She’s not following you, is she?”
“Not likely, she came with Grandma.”
Cedrick said, “Maricela, you three cat, order whatever you want, I’ll pay.”
“You mean, you’re eating outside?”
David asked.
“Yeah, today I need to be with her, mainly because the elderly is here, can’t disappoint her.”

Lucille didn’t listen further, just found it very funny, she actually ‘won‘ Cedrick from Maricela once, and the reason was Grandma?
Cedrick’s voice continued, “Alright, don’t we have plenty of chances to eat together?
We eat together almost every day, the elderly is very good to me, you know, I…”
“Cedrick, I know, you’re kind–hearted, always respect the elderly, I understand you, don’t forget, I used to be a volun- teer…” This was Maricela.
What else was said, Lucille couldn’t hear as she walked away, just, volunteer?
Maricela, how can you have the nerve?
Lucille returned to her seat to find the appetizers already served.
Grandma didn’t eat raw food, so Lucille had ordered her Eggs Benedict. Grandma stared at the poached eggs uncer- tainly, unsure how to proceed.
Seeing Lucille return, she asked, “These look so wobbly. Won’t the yolk spill everywhere if I poke them with a fork? How am I supposed to eat this? With my hands?”
“Then use your hands! What’s the big deal?” Cedrick’s voice carried from behind them.
Grandma immediately withdrew her outstretched hand upon seeing Cedrick, growing visibly self–conscious.
Cedrick took his seat beside Lucille and smiled at Grandma. “Grandma, we do things however we please here.”
Grandma shook her head. “I’ll embarrass you both.”
“Nonsense. Eating should be enjoyable–no silly rules. Nobody would dare laugh at us,” Cedrick reassured.
Grandma still hesitated. Cedrick signaled a waiter for a fork.

Finally relaxing, Grandma used the fork to pick up the egg. But it slipped, yolk spilling everywhere–her chin, clothes, and wrists now dripping yellow.
“Oh dear!” Grandma flushed with embarrassment, fearing she’d humiliated Cedrick and shamed Lucille.
Cedrick stood instantly. “No worries, Grandma. We’ll clean it up.”
He used the restaurant’s damp towels to gently wipe her hands and mouth. Grandma refused further help, using nap- kins to clean her clothes herself.
Soon, everything was spotless.
“I’m so sorry for the trouble, Cedrick,” Grandma murmured apologetically.
“Why say that? Grandma!” Cedrick’s eyes softened with nostalgia. “My grandmother raised me too. I only wish… I could’ve cared for her longer.”
