Chapter 109
Before Maricela finished, Harlan pushed forward. “I’m involved too! I told Lucy to take her to the conference room because I cut the wires there. I even disabled the sprinkler system–just wanted to scare her a bit in that room. It was me. Maricela ‘s just a girl, she knows nothing about electrical systems.”
Then David squeezed in. “Me! It was me! I told security to ignore Lucille’s cries for help! We did it all! It’s got nothing to do with Mr. Maynard! The idea to bribe those three into lying afterward was mine too! Cedrick knew nothing, I swear!”
“Cedrick…” Maricela gazed at Cedrick with teary eyes. “I’m sorry I dragged you into this. Don’t protect us or take the blame. You’re the most important one here. The company needs you. And…” She glanced at Lucille, “…Lucille needs you too. Don’t be rash…”
Harlan and David shot even more venomous glares at Lucille. David spoke in anguish, “See that, Lucille? Just look at Maricela ! Even now she’s still thinking about you! If you had half her kindness and generosity, none of this would’ve happened!”
Harlan pulled him back. “Stop. What’s the point talking to this vicious woman? She’ll never understand us! Cedrick, open your eyes! This is what true brothers look like! This is family! Now look at your vicious woman–you’ve struggled and suffered for her. What did you get in return?”
Lucille arched her brow. This again? The same old script? How exhausting. So they were the loyal brothers, and she was the wicked woman ruining Cedrick’s life? But was this really wickedness? If this counted as wicked, they hadn’t seen anything yet!
Lucille handed her phone to the officers. “Officers, should I submit the evidence from my phone? I’ve said all I need to say. Like they said, I won’t drop the charges. If there’s nothing else, may I leave? I’ll cooperate anytime if you need me later.‘
The officers had her sign the paperwork before letting her go.

Lucille gathered her things and slowly walked out of the local police station.
Her body felt even weaker now.
That afternoon’s rehab session had drained her strength completely. Combined with yesterday’s training leaving her whole body aching, every step felt unsteady. After that

confrontation at the station, even her mental energy was spent…
She stepped outside. The sunlight was intense, making her slightly dizzy.
She thought to herself, wrangling with those people was exhausting–physically and mentally draining. Just as this thought crossed her mind, her vision went black, and she started to collapse.
“Hey!
Ma’am, are you alright?”
She heard someone call out behind her and felt arms supporting her. Faintly, she recognized the voice as the female officer from earlier.
But she couldn’t even say she was fine before collapsing into the officer’s arms, unconscious. Lucille felt utterly exhausted, so tired that she slept for a very, very long time.
Waking up, she was groggy. The surroundings felt vaguely familiar. Looking closer, she realized she wasn’t at her grandmother’s house but back in her home with Cedrick, lying in their bedroom.
‘Ahem…” Her throat felt scratchy. She coughed.
“Ma’am!”
Mylee heard the cough and immediately appeared at the door. “You’re awake?
Would you like some water?
Shall I bring you some?”
“Come in.” Lucille heard her own voice rasp.
Mylee pushed the door open, carrying a glass of warm water. She helped Lucille sit up halfway and carefully offered her the water to drink.
“How did I get here?” Lucille remembered confronting Cedrick and his buddies at the station before passing out at the entrance.
