Chapter 11 The Help of Anna

The face was hidden by the green foliage, but I could still see a small snake wriggling through the cracks in the leaves. The next second, the owner of the face leaped from the branch, through the window, and into the room.

"What do you want?" I asked warily.

"You seem to be recovering well." Jim's eyes burned with hatred. "I haven't settled that score with you yet, and now you grounded me with Devon. Why don't we settle this once and for all?"

"Don't you dare lay a hand on me in Alpha's room." Despite my words, my body involuntarily revolted.

"Do you think Devon cares if you live or die?" Jim sneered. "You're just a slave, a plaything to him, and he doesn't care who has fucked you!"

I'm afraid he doesn't know about my dealings with Alpha Devon, but I can't use it as a shield just yet.

"No one will save you this time!" Jim said and threw himself at me, grabbing my neck with both hands. He said fiercely, "I'm going to fuck you in Devon's bed!"

"Don't!" The more I resisted, the harder he struck.

Then the sudden ringing of the doorbell saved me. At first, Jim ignored the bell, but then a sound from outside startled him.

"Aray, are you in there?" a woman's voice came through the door. "I'm Anna, it's body routine day, remember?"

Jim hesitated for two seconds before finally releasing his grip on my neck. He warned me harshly before leaving, "Lucky for you this time, but we're not finished yet!"

I lay on the ground, gasping for air, as the doorbell continued to ring. It took me several minutes to gather myself and walk to the door.

"Did someone come by?" Anna's gaze lingered on my neck. "Aray, did you just get into a fight?"

"No, nobody came by." Panicking, I covered the scratch on my neck with my hand.

"Are you in trouble?" Anna asked.

I debated how to answer, uncertain whether I should tell Anna what had just happened. Would she trust a slave? Would she inform Alpha?

"I'm fine," I lied to her.

"But I smell other werewolves," Anna said, looking around warily. She then grabbed a white spray bottle from the medicine cabinet and began spraying around the room. Soon, the acrid smell of disinfectant filled the air. I had to cover my nose with my hand to keep from sneezing.

"If I can smell strangers, don't you think Alpha can too?" Anna placed the white spray bottle back in the medicine cabinet. "The disinfectant smell masks the scent of strangers, so Alpha won't notice."

"Thank you, Anna," I expressed my gratitude towards her.

"I need you to open all the windows so the smell can dissipate quickly," she instructed, moving towards the window, and I hurried into the bedroom.

As I opened the bedroom window and looked outside, there was no sign of Jim around the house anymore. He should be gone. My mind finally felt at ease.

Then Anna proceeded with my regular check-up, and I felt nervous. Why would she risk her life to help me? Could she have ulterior motives? However, instead of bringing up what had just happened, she sincerely inquired about my recent health and diet. After the examination was over, Anna asked me:

"Would you like to take a walk in the garden?"

"Then I'll walk with you!" Anna responded, closing the lid on the medical kit.

We walked slowly down the path toward the garden. The sun felt warm on my body, and birds paused in their flight to sing in the branches. The air carried a sweet fragrance of apple blossoms.

"About what just happened," I stopped and said to Anna, "I wanted to say..."

"Not if you don't want to," a wisp of sunlight spilled into Anna's light blonde hair, and she spoke softly. "Everyone has their secrets, and I'm not a blabbermouth. So you don't have to worry about me snitching on Alpha. But I have to warn you, Alpha doesn't tolerate people having affairs behind his back. The consequences of betraying him are serious."

"Sounds like you know him well?" I asked curiously.

"I don't think anyone in the world knows him better than I do," Anna smiled wryly. "We lived together for a long time."

Was Anna one of Alpha's surrogates? Or was she his old flame?

Looking at me quizzically, Anna explained, "Don't get me wrong, I'm his sister, even though we weren't born to the same mother."

"You're Alpha Devon's sister?" I was surprised. "But you don't look like brother and sister at all."

How could a man as cold as Alpha Devon have such a gentle sister?

"No one believes that, but we are brother and sister. After Alpha Devon's mother died, his father married his mother's sister, my mother," Anna looked up at the expanse of the sky. "We're brother and sister, but we're related. He's always put Alpha first, and he's always been so cold to family."

"Then why are you helping me?" If she is Alpha's sister, why would she risk helping me?

"I don't know either," Anna looked at me. "My gut tells me you're a good girl, maybe you have a reason to be."

"Thank you, Anna." I felt guilty for doubting her motives just now. It turned out that her purpose in helping me was not what I had imagined. It was I who was mistaken.

"You're welcome," Anna smiled. "Let's take a break in the garden."

In the middle of the garden, there was a small round table and chairs where Anna and I sat. We chatted for some time, during which she informed me that the house on the east side belonged to Alpha and was used for official business. The house where he and Luna resided was on the west side of the estate, but Alpha and Luna only spent time together there on full moon days and special holidays. For the majority of the time, Alpha Devon lived alone in the East End house.

"He never allowed another woman into his room," Anna gave me a meaningful look. "You're the first."

So, I was the first woman to enter his private domain. A slave? It was simply unbelievable.

"Maybe you mean something to him," Anna said.

My purpose in existence was to give him an heir, but I couldn't disclose this secret to anyone. It was difficult to imagine what the servants at the Hall would think of me if they knew that I had been in my master's room. I suppose I should be considered the enemy of everybody on the estate by now.

"Maybe Alpha just took me in out of pity."

Anna laughed at my excuse, and there was a hint of complexity in her smile. Had she guessed something?

Just then, Anna's phone rang, and she turned her back to me to answer the call. After a minute, she turned to me with a serious expression on her face. "There was a fight in the Chamber, and someone got hurt. I have to leave immediately."

"It's alright, I can find my way back to my room," I replied. "Go and attend to the situation."

"Call me if you feel any discomfort," Anna said apologetically. "I'm sorry I have to go."

As Anna disappeared from my sight, I suddenly felt a burning sensation behind me, as if someone was watching me from behind.

"Are you a slave?" A woman's voice spoke from behind me, clear and dismissive. I turned around to face her.

The woman before me was dressed in a lavish lavender dress, adorned with a sparkling diamond necklace around her neck, fingernails painted bright red. Her long red hair was elegantly styled, and she exuded an air of majesty. Daisy, the housekeeper, stood respectfully beside her, her expression somber as always.

So, the mysterious woman in front of me was likely Catherine, Alpha Devon's wife. She looked at me with disdain in her eyes, and a wicked smile played on her lips.

"Take this slave with you," she commanded, and as she spoke, several strong men emerged from the shadows. Their eyes bore a fierce intensity, as if they were ready to kill me.
