Chapter 276: The Enemies, To Lovers

Christopher

The bathroom door clicks shut with a soft, final thud, leaving just Allison and me in the hushed intimacy of the nest. She's sprawled among the soft layers, her skin flushed a deep pink, chest heaving with rapid breaths that make her breasts rise and fall in a rhythm that's both vulnerable and mesmerising. My heart thunders in my chest. This moment is a threshold I've only dreamed of crossing. I've fought beside her, healed for her, but never this. Never us, alone like this. I kneel beside her on the edge of the nest, the blankets yielding under my weight.

"Allison... are you okay?" My voice comes out softer than I intend.

She nods, but it's weak, her lips parting as if words are too much effort. Her eyes, though, speak volumes: trust, desire, exhaustion warring with the fire still simmering inside her. I can't just dive in. Not with her like this. I wave my hand, channelling a simple conjuration spell, and a shallow silver bowl materialises, filled with warm, scented water infused with soothing herbs. A soft washcloth appears beside it.

"Let me clean you," I say, my tone steady despite the tremor in my hands. "You're sore, I can tell. The heat... It's taken a toll."

She watches me with that unwavering trust, her body relaxing just a fraction as I dip the cloth into the water and wring it out with gentle twists. I start at her inner thighs, wiping away the remnants of the others with slow, careful strokes, avoiding her most sensitive areas for now. Her skin is warm, almost feverish, and I can feel the faint tremble in her muscles.

"Does this feel all right?" I ask softly, glancing up to meet her gaze.

"Yes," she whispers, her voice a breathy thread. "Gentle... thank you."

Encouraged, I continue upward, cleaning the evidence of their passion with reverence. Each pass of the cloth is a caress, a way to honour her body after what it's endured. The water gleams on her skin, leaving it fresh and dewy.

"You're so beautiful like this," I murmur, my free hand brushing a lock of hair from her face. "I still can't believe you're letting me be here, after everything..."

She reaches for my hand, her fingers intertwining with mine, warm and sure. "I want you, Christopher."

The words hit me like a spell, freezing me in place, the cloth hovering mid-air. My breath catches.

"If it's only the heat talking... if it's just your body needing release, we don't have to do this tonight. I can hold you. I can wait. We've got time now, real time, without the world ending around us."

Her fingers tighten around mine, pulling me closer. There's a spark of clarity in her eyes, cutting through the haze.

"No. I want you. Not the heat. You. I've wanted this for longer than tonight."

The honesty in her voice undoes me, unravelling the last threads of my hesitation. It's not just words; it's the bond we've built through fire and shadow, the quiet moments stolen amid chaos. I set the bowl aside, the water rippling faintly, and lean down to kiss her forehead, lingering there to breathe her in.

"I'll be gentle," I promise, my lips brushing her skin.

I undress slowly, letting her see me—every scar from old spells and torture, every inch of vulnerability. Her eyes roam over me, appreciative, and it sends a shiver down my spine. When I settle between her thighs, I brace myself on my forearms, careful not to crush her smaller frame beneath mine. Our bodies align, skin to skin, and I feel the heat radiating from her core.

"You're incredible," I whisper against her lips, pressing a soft kiss there before easing just the tip inside her. She's slick, welcoming, but I go slow—agonisingly slow. "So warm. So perfect. Like you were made for this—for us."

She gasps, her hips lifting instinctively, seeking more.

"Easy," I soothe, pausing to let her adjust, my thumb stroking her cheek. "Does it feel good?"

"Yes... more," she breathes, her hands sliding up my arms.

I slide deeper, inch by inch, watching her face for any flicker of discomfort. Her walls clench around me, a velvet grip that makes my vision blur with pleasure.

"Gods, you feel like heaven," I groan softly. "You're taking me so well."

Her hands roam my back, nails grazing lightly, pulling me closer. I rock slowly, each movement a gentle wave building between us.

"You're the strongest person I've ever known," I tell her, kissing the column of her neck where her pulse flutters. "Saving Cage like that... facing your corruption head-on, turning darkness into strength. You're remarkable." I nip gently at her earlobe. "And right now, you're letting me love you. Trusting me with this. I'm the luckiest man alive."

She moans softly, a sweet sound that vibrates through me, her body clenching in response.

"Do you like that, sweetheart?" I ask, adjusting the angle slightly to hit that spot that makes her eyes flutter.

"Yes... there. Right there."

I savour the way she opens for me. "Beautiful," I breathe, my hand cupping her breast, thumb circling her nipple. "Look at you, you're glowing, powerful, mine in this moment."

Her breathing grows ragged, hitching with each roll of my hips. I feel her building again, despite the earlier waves that have left her spent. Sweat beads on my brow, my own control fraying, but I hold back, wanting her pleasure first. As my climax approaches, a coiling tension low in my gut, I press my forehead to hers, our breaths mingling. "I'm going to cum, sweetheart", I warn, my voice strained with the effort of restraint. "Are you ready? Do you want this? Want me to fill you?"

She moans, her nails digging into my shoulders, anchoring us together. "Fill me, please. Yes, please."

The plea shatters me. I let go with a shuddering groan, spilling deep inside her in hot pulses. Pleasure whites out my vision, waves crashing through me as her body milks every drop with her own orgasm, her cry muffled against my shoulder.

I stay inside her for a moment longer, not wanting to break the connection. I stroke her hair, damp and tangled, pressing kisses to her temple, her cheek. "You were perfect," I whisper. "Absolutely perfect. I love you—for this, for everything."

She smiles sleepily, her eyelids heavy, the heat's demands finally easing into a lull. Within minutes, her breathing evens out, exhaustion claiming her as she drifts into sleep.

"Sleep, love," I whisper. "I'll be right here when you wake."

Satisfied she's comfortable, I rise quietly, pulling on loose pants before padding to the bathroom. The others sit under the spray, Rhaziel perched like a king on a tiled ledge, Evander leaning against the wall with crossed arms, Kael sprawled casually on the floor, and Cassian sitting thoughtfully.

"Is it over now? Is she gonna be in any more pain?" I ask.

Evander and Kael exchange a glance, their chuckles low, shaking their heads in unison.

"Brother, we have days' worth of this," Evander says.

"Buckle up." Kael grins.
