359- A Call from the Enemy
POV Viktor Averwyn:
The pleasant scent clung to my skin, to my nostrils.
I groaned softly, pulling the soft body closer against mine as my blood surged. Seraphine fit perfectly, her hair brushing my nose. Soft flesh against the erection that was already beginning to throb.
I froze when awareness struck me, and I opened my eyes.
Seraphine?
I saw copper curls beneath my face, a freckled shoulder right in front of me. Fuck. How?
I didn’t move, trying to understand, to fully wake up. I had gone to bed alone—I hadn’t gone to her room. Then I noticed the wall, the bedposts. She had come to mine.
Desire surged intensely, clouding my judgment, reaching even my heart. It pounded wildly as I hardened painfully, able to think only of laying her down right there and pushing myself inside her. My wolf stirred, hungry, scenting her.
I did everything I could to breathe, to calm down. It was difficult like that—her scent and skin making it impossible to think about anything but pleasure. I needed more. Something to focus on.
The sun was already shining through the window, lighting the room. There was so much to do, worries ready to attack. I focused on them, rigid in place, listening to her steady breathing. She slept peacefully, indifferent to the torture she caused.
The war. I needed to know if there had been attacks during the night. Adelina. I had to find a way to get news about her, decide what to do about the spy. And Seraphine… she couldn’t be there. It was dangerous. I still didn’t know if she would end up being another one to die after I completely lost control and took her over and over again.
Think, damn it!
My wolf wanted to growl, far more interested in fucking, satisfying urges, easing my instincts. Before my more animal side won the battle, I jumped out of bed all at once, startling her. Seraphine woke up confused, eyes wide. Frozen when she saw me standing there, tense and aroused.
“What are you doing here?” I growled, feeling ridiculous demanding answers with my cock throbbing at its limit.
“I… I…”
Confused, she slipped off the bed, her hair like a mane, so beautiful I almost grabbed her right then. I clenched my fists, pissed off.
“It was an accident…” She stood, her face burning.
“Are you a sleepwalker?”
“No…”
“How did you end up in my bed, Seraphine?”
We were both embarrassed, tense. Her gaze dropped to my erection and quickly rose again, even more nervous. She shook her head, bringing a hand to her throat.
“I couldn’t sleep. I came here to tell you… something. Then when I got close, you pulled me into bed and I couldn’t get away. I was afraid of waking you. And I ended up falling asleep.”
She looked at my body again, licking her lips, stepping back slowly.
“What thing?” I demanded.
“Huh?”
“What did you want to tell me?”
“I… well… now I don’t remember. Sorry!”
She ran out, slamming the door behind her. I cursed under my breath, grabbing my leaking cock, veins pulsing.
I didn’t have time for that, much less to fight the urge to run after her. I went to take a cold shower, not believing her story.
It affected me even more knowing she had come into my arms of her own free will. I didn’t know how to deal with her after that. Sleeping was going to be hell.
I went downstairs still irritated, tense, my erection threatening to return at any moment. Luckily she wasn’t in the kitchen—only Daciana. She smiled at me.
As we had breakfast, she asked:
“Was Seraphine here yesterday when you arrived?” I nodded, alert even at her name. “Did you have dinner together?”
“Why?”
“It’s just a question! She said she’d wait for you, to make sure you ate. She’d even serve your plate, if you let her. Was that it?”
Curiosity dripped from her gaze.
“Yes,” I said through clenched teeth.
“Oh! That girl is surprising me!”
Much more than me. What did she want? To redeem herself after the shit of running away and nearly getting herself killed? Or did she feel guilty about Adelina?
Thinking about my daughter stressed me out, along with so many things to deal with. I said goodbye to Daciana and went to the office.
Emil had taken shifts during the night with Florian and told me the attacks hadn’t advanced, but things were more active that morning with new armies arriving.
I prepared to stay there, monitoring and directing strategies. Emil left. I would call them later for another meeting.
I needed to place more spies among the enemy packs arriving, to gather information about them and try to find out how things were in Tharengard.
That was when my phone started ringing, and I saw an unknown number. I answered without saying anything, expecting a threat or more bad news.
“Dad?”
It felt like all the blood drained from my body, and for a moment I was in shock. I tightened my grip on the phone, my voice low:
“Adelina?”
“Oh, Dad! I missed you so much! Have you forgiven me yet?” There was a trembling, emotional note in her voice, which soon returned to her lively tone. “I’m sorry! I know you’re worried, angry, but…”
“Fuck… are you okay?” I sat down, my heart racing, my mind spinning.
“Yes! Very well! Didn’t I tell you it was right, that he was my destined one? Lucian likes me! And I like him!” She grew happier, in her familiar excited way. “We’re still getting to know each other, but I’m in love! I’m like a queen here!”
It was a lie. She was being forced to say that or… deceiving herself. I searched for clues, desperate, caught off guard.
“Adelina…”
