Chapter 10 HELPERS FOR HER
CHAPTER TEN
GENERAL POV
Kate knew she was safe the moment she stepped into her house. Not because the place felt warm or welcoming. It did not. But because the door closed behind her and the noise of the world stayed outside. For the first time that day, her shoulders dropped.
She was alive.
That alone felt like a miracle.
Her heels clicked softly against the tiled floor as she walked farther in, exhaustion clinging to her bones. Today had been torture. Every smile had been forced. Every step measured. Every breath taken with caution. But she had survived it all and now she was home with twenty four thousand dollars tucked safely in her bag.
Twenty four thousand dollars.
Money that could buy safety. Time. Maybe even revenge.
If she stayed careful.
If she stuck to the script.
If she did not make a single mistake.
Kate dropped her bag on the couch and let out a tired breath. She had barely taken three steps toward the kitchen when something shifted in the corner of the room. A shadow moved where no shadow should move.
Her heart sank.
Not again.
Please not again.
“Come on out,” she said calmly, even though her chest was already tightening.
Two men stepped out from behind the counter, dressed in black, faces unreadable. They did not look threatening anymore. Kate had grown used to this life. Used to being watched. Used to being followed. Used to never truly being alone.
“The boss said we should take you with us,” the first man said.
Kate scoffed.
“Tell him I will send him every detail he needs.
It has barely been forty two hours since I was tasked. I am not even done yet.”
Her frustration spilled out before she could stop it. She turned away, dragging a hand through her hair. She regretted this deal every single day. Regretted the moment she had said yes. But then again, how could she not?
Savy was her brother.
Kane Draven had killed their parents without mercy and ruined Savy’s face beyond repair. Burnt him. Broke him. Took everything from him and left him breathing just enough to suffer.
If doing this work gave her an edge.
If it gave her even the slightest chance to help her brother kill Kane.
Then so be it.
“The boss said it is important,” the second man added. “We have to bring you there.”
Kate hesitated, then nodded slowly. There was no point arguing. She glanced at the pizza box sitting untouched on the table and felt a bitter smile tug at her lips. Another meal she would not eat.
They blindfolded her moments later.
Darkness swallowed her whole as they guided her out. The car ride felt longer than usual. The road twisted and turned endlessly, as though they were driving in circles just to confuse her. Even though Kate was Savy’s sister, his location was one of the most guarded secrets in the city. Only his top men knew how to get there.
After escaping Kane, Savy had built his own city from ashes. A coded empire hidden in plain sight. He was not ready to die until his revenge was complete. Not until Kane paid for everything.
Nearly an hour passed before the car finally stopped.
Kate was already irritated when the blindfold was removed. Light flooded her eyes and she blinked rapidly until she saw him. Savy.
He sat across the room, leaning back in his chair like a king on a throne. His scarred face was half hidden in shadow, but his eyes were sharp and alive.
“This rigorous process of meeting you has to stop,” Kate snapped. “I do not like it.”
Savy chuckled softly.
“Chill sister. If I am caught, you would be too.”
She crossed her arms.
“I am glad to see you in one piece.”
“I need to leave that place, Savy,” she said after a pause, her voice dropping. “Every day brings me closer to my death day. Just yesterday, my close friend Naomi was killed by Kane.”
The smile vanished from Savy’s face.
“Kane,” he muttered. “As vicious as ever.” He shrugged. “But that is not my problem. How is the new lady?”
Kate stared at him, irritation burning in her eyes.
“If you think she is Sally, she is not. She is just some random girl who looks like Sally.”
“Not like I care,” Savy replied easily. “I still want her.”
Kate exhaled sharply. “Do you want her because of your obsession with Sally or because you want to use her to get revenge on Kane?”
“Both,” he said without hesitation.
“It will not touch him one bit,” Kate shot back.
“Kane already gave her enough bad treatment to last a lifetime. Things you can never imagine. The day she arrived, she was raped. Earlier this morning, she stood on broken glass for hours.”
Savy’s fists clenched on the armrest. His jaw tightened as something dark flashed across his face.
“Why did he not let me take her if his plan was to treat her badly?” he growled.
“I pity the poor girl, honestly,” Kate said quietly. “But let us not deviate from our original plan. We need all the focus we can gather.”
“No,” Savy said, sitting forward. “I want her. I want Samantha. I cannot lose Sally and lose Samantha at the same time.”
Kate shook her head. “Chill, bro. You will get her. Do not ruin your plans because of obsession. Kane is already searching everywhere for you because of your appearance at the Sanctuary. Why did you make an appearance at all?”
“I wanted him to know I was still alive,” Savy replied coldly. “I wanted to prove I was unreachable. I did not expect to see Sally’s lookalike. And I did not expect him to bid that high on her behalf. Let him try. He cannot get me. I am bigger than the Savy he almost burnt.”
“In all you do, stay away from Samantha,” Kate warned.
“Sally cost your face.
Samantha might cost her life.”
Silence filled the room.
Then Savy’s voice softened.
“Please. Let us look for a way to get her out of there.”
Kate laughed, shaking her head.
“No, Savy. I am not doing this with you. I am not.”
“Please, Kate,” he begged.
“Please.”
She turned away, her heart pounding. “Let me pitch it to her,” she said finally.
“Let me see how she will take it. I will mail you.”
“You keep saying this,” Savy said. “I need updates on her case every twenty four hours. I do not want her in pain. Please.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Kate replied, already walking away. “Unbothered.”
But as she left the room, her chest tightened. She did leave her meal for this…..to ease his obsession. One thing she knows ... Samantha was never leaving place..even when she
